Awesome, and I may get one myself, but someone needs to make one for Wil as a gift. ;)
Is it really only 2 days until GenCon? Yes. Yes it is.
On Wednesday, I'm heading to GenCon in Indianapolis. I had a great time when I was there before, and I'm looking forward to attending this year. Here's what you need to know, from GenCon: Wil will be signing autographs in the Autograph Area of the Exhibit Hall, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday mo...
Or a t-shirt which reads "Quarantine"

1. Props on the Phineas and Ferb reference.
2. My aunt has Epstein Barr, so I know what you're experiencing and commend you for protecting your health. (HIV+ 22 years myself, so I'm also careful.)
3. Are you going to Strategicon @ LAX this month? If so, I'd love to donate a die to your collection.

On a tangent, I'm so jealous that you got to be at JPL last night. My tenant (a local photographer) was also there. I was tempted to cut her rent this month just to get an invitation to go with her!
I couldn't believe it, myself, but this is a real picture.
Last night, Anne and I got to go to the Jet Propulsion Labratory to watch the landing of the Mars Curiosity Rover. It was a powerful, emotional, inspiring experience. When I think about how these scientists flew something the size of my car to another planet and landed it almost exactly where th...
I go through this every night. Taschia (all 65 pounds of her) will crawl into bed and curl up into a ball at the foot, only to push me to the edge an hour later as she stretches out. You know how hard it is to shift a 65 pound sleeping dog?
The Eternal Struggle
So this happened last night. I told the tale in pictures and captions on Twitter, and I'm putting it here for the ages. For science. You monster. Hey, Seamus, you're in my spot. Me: Seamus, move! Seamus: But I'm watching Colbert Report! Me: Seamus won't move. Riley: Well, duh. He's wa...
On a tangential note, it would be great to see Ryan play tabletop with you the next time he's back home.
in which diablo 3 is played with my son
Today, I'll wrap production on the latest series of audio books I've been doing. It's been ten long days, and though I genuinely adore the people I'm working with, I'll be happy when I get to the last word on the last page, because... I'm going to start work on a different and awesome project on...
Here's an economist's take on how DST costs the U.S. over $1.7B each year.

Also, the increased use of air conditioners effects individual finances.
"One study showed that the time shift did not reduce energy consumption, so much as displace where and when it was being used. For example, fewer people may need to turn their lights on in the morning when they wake up due to an earlier sunrise, but more people are using air conditioners later in the day as it gets warmer, according to research published by the National Bureau of Economic Research in 2008."
Huff Post has a good overview, including info on traffic accidents and the like..

Insomniac Theater: The Rock-afire Explosion
Unless I'm working on a show that requires me to get up at a normal hour to get to the set, I usually sleep for about eight hours, starting at one in the morning. When we do the stupid goddamn Daylight Saving Time*, it's really hard for me to get to sleep before two in the morning, which annoys ...
Wil, your post gives me hope. My partner and I are looking at adopting. Reading how Ryan is so much your son despite being adopted reassures me. I've always had this "I want a biological kid" thing; this helps remind me to get over it and love my kids as my kids, no matter how I come by them.
JCCC2: in which Settlers of Catan is played on a boat
The boat rocked as gently as a giant boat can rock when it's pushing 19 knots. A fresh breeze made small white caps in the sea. The sun -- the Nerd's natural enemy -- was directly above us in a cloudless sky. I sat with Anne on the aft pool deck of the Westerdam, my feet floating in the water. "...
I was once asked in a job interview what one word I would like to be used to describe me. I said "remarkable". I still believe that.
John Green is my hero
Every time I come across something John Green has said, I get excited, inspired, and wish I'd said it myself. (via Visions I Had Buried Underground)
Wil, not sure of what options are out of the city for you, but there's a great arcade supply store on Vermont Blvd. just below Santa Monica and across from LA City College. (And I would love to know when you go so I could meet you and we could browse boxes at the same time. Grew up playing Gauntlet and the like.)
The Poet and the Painter casting shadows on the water
Beer stuff! I wanted to make Jaime Paglia an oatmeal stout, because that's his favorite. When I went to the shop to get supplies, though, Greg (who owns it) told me that you really have to do a partial mash or all-grain to get it just right. I'm not quite ready for that, yet, so I went with my b...
I turned 39 in June. It was...disconcerting. Hope it turns out to be a good year for you.
Spock is not impressed that it's my birthday
During w00tstock last week, I mentioned that I was turning 38 this week. After the show, Anne told me that I was, in fact, turning 39. In the few seconds that it took me to do some math, I lost a year of my life. Apparently, this is the sort of thing that happens when you get to be my age, which...
