This week has brought us cooler temperatures and the smell of Fall is in the air. In fact, it's less than a week away. But, while I do love Fall and all it's leafy, pumpkin filled crafty possibilities... I also really like those last bits of summer. The warm glow... Continue reading

A couple of weeks ago Carrie, from Right Sides Facing, emailed me to see if I'd be interested in joining in this little Blog Hop. I've been following her on Instagram for a while now, there she shares lots of fun family pictures plus lots of great sewing makes as... Continue reading

The other day Henry and I took a trip to a nearby airplane museum. It is one of our favorite little easy museum trips. There are rarely more than two other families there at the same time as us, it's nearby with no traffic, and...it's airplanes! Sadly though, when we... Continue reading

We have been blessed with such an amazing summer this year. Low humidity for the most part and cooler temperatures than I can ever remember in the four years that we've lived here. It's been glorious really! And, I am saying out loud (and here on the computer) that I... Continue reading

Sometimes you find yourself so inspired that you must make something immediately. Such was the case with this project. One of my husband's co-workers had a little baby girl two weeks ago, her name...Dottie Lemon. Such a sweet and adorable name to match a sweet new baby. The name has... Continue reading

So, I made a quilt. It's not a super "quilty" quilt, but it might be the most "quilty" quilt I've ever made. It's got flaws and certainly isn't perfect. But, it is soft and comfortable and beautiful. And really, that's all that matters sometimes. The other part of the story... Continue reading

Over the summer Violet went through a pretty significant growth spurt. She grew enough that most of the shorts that she has in her drawers no longer fit. It wasn't really much of an issue for us over the summer as she still really loves to wear skirts and dresses... Continue reading

It's labor day weekend. The last (unofficial) weekend of the summer. Summer days are getting shorter. The lazy, hazy days are dwindling. School is starting (or has already). Just one more weekend to squeeze in all that last minute relaxing! Play some Frisbee, eat some barbecue and then...take a nap...... Continue reading

I've been wearing this skirt nearly all summer so I suppose I ought to share it, especially since I love it so much! It's got a great little swing to it and it's breezy and cool to wear since it just skims your body... Plus, it's so very easy to... Continue reading

I thought it was funny that Jess and I had the same problem...I could not believe it when it happened, my mouth dropped open and there were likely some expletives muttered under my breath! Kristin suggested that perhaps interfacing might help? That might be worth a try... It is a lot of dress to pull through a small but fairly long opening. The double gauze I used (as you know) is so light and airy that I wonder about getting the quilting cottons through... just go sloooowww!

I know! As I was reading Jess' post this morning I was like wait...what?! Surprised to know it wasn't just me, but yes, perhaps a bit of lightweight interfacing like shapeflex or the like might be helpful...or just go very very very slowly. It's a lot of dress to pull through a tiny hole, and the DG is so light and airy that I wonder about getting the quilting cottons through...

I really do love it b/c it seems a bit more "sophisticated" for older girls, especially when you pick more "sophisticated" fabrics ;)

Today is Violet's first day of First grade! It's funny how much hand holding there is for both kids and their parents the first days of Kindergarten, but for First grade it's nearly already old hat! On Friday we visited the school to find her new teacher and to see... Continue reading

At the beach we are our best selves. At least it seems that way many times. Is it the salt, the sound of the waves crashing or the sand between our toes? Maybe, it's that we simply take time to be together. Really it's a combination of it all. We... Continue reading

Wow, I'm not exactly sure how it happened, all this sewing this summer, I hadn't really intended to do so much, but you know...I love it. Apparently, with all of the sewing happening around here the kids are beginning to catch the sewing bug as well. They've been asking about... Continue reading

A couple of weeks ago I put together a great big roundup of embellishment "how tos" for Summer of No Pants. And today I've got a fun little "embellishment" DIY myself to share... I used inkodye and the sun to add a bit of my garden to a skirt. I've... Continue reading
