Easter is just around the corner...We've pulled down our St. Patrick's Day decor and we've put up our bunnies, chicks and all things Spring. My Easter dress is already made and I've been working on Easter outfits for the kids and contemplating a tie for my husband. There are some... Continue reading

Happy First Day of Spring! Hooray for Spring, warm mosquitoless days filled with bright and cheerful bulbs and buzzing bees. Every year, after the ice and snow and gray of winter, the green of Spring is such a cheerful sight! Well, truthfully, these three green outfits were in fact made... Continue reading

Oh how I love sewing and making little tiny baby things, and I know I'm not the only one! You might remember last year (almost exactly) when a group of bloggy friends gathered together to throw our friends Carla and Lacy a virtual baby shower. Well, as it turns out,... Continue reading

First, I have to say, I've totally been bitten! By the "selfish sewing bug" that is. I managed to sew five pieces of clothing (including today's outfit) for myself over the past week and I've still got plans (perhaps not time though) for more. I'm loving all of my new... Continue reading

The other week we purchased a few little tiny glass bottles and jars in the $1 section at Target. Once home, we began to brainstorm what we were going to do with them. And then, after hearing a Martin & Sylvia Sparkle Story about leprechauns, we all decided that we... Continue reading

I did not line it. I didn't want it to be fully lined to keep the "breezy" feel...also, if I'm being completely honest, I didn't want to deal with the extra fabric and effort of lining it... I, am wearing a full length slip underneath it though.
Happy Pi Day! Today, the day to eat pie and to celebrate math! What could be better? Need some easy to make and delicious pie recipes for today? Head on over to Inner Child Food for both savory and sweet recipes! This is what the kids and I were making... Continue reading

I'm sharing more about this amazing dress, the Marigold Dress in Leah Duncan Central Park Breeze print from Art Gallery Fabrics over at Imagine Gnats today. When Virginia Lindsay of Gingercake Patterns asked me if I would be interested in sewing up some birds from her new book, Pretty Birds, as part of the book tour, I didn't hesitate to say yes! I didn't hesitate for two reasons... First, I love Virginia's patterns and her aesthetic,... Continue reading

Today's Selfish Sewing Week project is a bit of a "cheater" project... For too long my Lady Skater dress has been sitting in a heap upon my dresser...too big to really look nice anymore and always slipping off my shoulders... One of the many handmades that don't quite fit me... Continue reading

I have so many things to put into today's post that I'm not even quite sure where to start...But, seeing that it is Selfish Sewing Week I guess I'll start there! I've got a new favorite dress! Like, I really really want to wear this dress all the time! It's... Continue reading

It's Selfish Sewing Week! It's always fun to set aside a bit of time for making for ourselves, right? I've got a few things that I plan on and hope to make this week, but, in the meantime I thought I'd share this great felted tablet cover tutorial that I... Continue reading

We are on our third snow day of the week, in March! It seems like winter took a bit to get here this year and now it's reminding us it's not yet Spring! We've been enjoying the snow, but at the same time we are eager for those little signs... Continue reading

Ok, I know that I've been on a bit of a pajama making kick recently, between these pants and this nightgown and now one more pajama post and I think I'll be done, for a little while anyway... Last week a friend of ours celebrated his fourth birthday! He had... Continue reading

Violet didn't ask for a lot for her birthday, but she was pretty adamant about one thing...a zebra nightgown! She picked out this zebra waffle knit last summer on a trip to Finch to visit with Tara and her kiddos and I've been putting off making her something with it... Continue reading

I didn't get a chance to get many great pictures of Violet in her birthday dress on her birthday and then, of course it being a hot chocolate party, she proceeded to dribble hot cocoa down the front...eek! No worries though, the cocoa came out and didn't stain, phew! And... Continue reading

One can never have enough pajamas, right? Well, that's how I feel anyway, especially pajama pants! I hadn't intended on making Violet pajama pants for her birthday, initially, all I had on my make list for birthday gifts was a birthday dress (which I still need to get proper pictures... Hey there, exciting news! After Kristin saw the sweater mittens I made for the kids during Kids Clothes Week she and Liesl asked me if I wouldn't mind writing up a little tutorial on how to make them for the Oliver + S blog! It just so happened that I... Continue reading

Over the weekend we celebrated Violet's 7th birthday! Seven?, it seems that I say it every year, how can she keep getting older? Of course, these birthdays are always bitter sweet. The getting older too quickly is sad to think about, but so fun to see how she's grown... Continue reading

Today is the Chinese New Year. This year is the year of the goat. Honestly, for the most part, the Chinese New Year means that we either make some sort of Chinese food at home or order take out. Last year though, we made these fun Chinese dragons to play... Continue reading

A friend of mine asked me way back in December if I would be interested in making her daughter a doll for her first Christmas. Well, she got me right at the perfect time because I had been having "I want to make a doll" pangs recently...Sound silly? Well, it's... Continue reading

After sewing up my shirt for "Sew in Tune" last week I've decided that the Plantain tee from Deer and Doe is my new favorite! I've been holding on to these sweet little biking girls since the summer, just waiting for the perfect way to use them and a little... Continue reading

Today is the Valentine party at Violet's school. I always think having a simple craft is nice to have as part of the "fun" for the party. But, it has to be simple. There can't be too many steps, or long drying times. Recently inspired by this thaumatrope I thought... Continue reading

I know we are running behind on our Valentines. Honestly, Henry has been sick and out of school for over a week now, so at first we weren't sure he'd actually be going to school for his Valentine's day party. So now we are playing catch up just in time!... Continue reading
