We filled our house with friends and family in celebration of our little love's birthday on Sunday afternoon! I scheduled the party for basically Emery's nap time (rookie mistake!) because it was a convenient time for adults, and thankfully Emery just rode the wave of excitement all day and handled... I really wanted to write a birth story. They are my favorite thing to read and I scour the internet for them regularly (reaching obsessive levels during pregnancy). I wanted to write a birth story so badly that I actually took NOTES during labor. I am reading them right now... Continue reading

And just like that, the kid is ONE. One years old. She walks now (holding a hand for help), says "Dad", "Daddy", "Mom", "Pup-pup", " 'dis", "BABY" (what???) and "Grandpa" (we think), and we count her age in YEARS. Somehow this monumental day passed without a tear shed from Mom... Continue reading

Hello there! Goats are such silly, and silly looking, animals. Normally they make me a little nervous because I think they can be mean, but the goats that roamed free at Down to Earth Petting Zoo were so sweet and friendly (except for when they were stealing our picnic!). A... Continue reading

Thank you Johanna! And yes we use two different baby backpacks (both handed down). One is a MEC brand hiking backpack that is only a few years old (it was for my twin nephews who are now almost 5) and the other is an old denim OshKosh backpack that I prefer for more casual things or kitchen/house chores cause it sticks out less behind my back

I've said this before and am sure I'll say it a thousand more times, I have some seriously talented friends! Their talent was very apparent when Emery was new and we were gifted so many amazing homemade gifts! We are so blessed. My dear friend Ashley made Emery 3 unique... Continue reading

I harvested mint, basil and parsley last week to be dried. We could borrow a dehydrator, but I prefer the old school method of tying bundles of leaves together and hanging them upside down in a dark, dry place. I find dental floss has enough grip that the stems don't... Continue reading

I'm celebrating everyday moments of the past couple weeks, like: ^^ Only making it through the music worship portion of church every sunday before ending up in the foyer, watching the sermons on the TV screen and walking around with the babe. I'm always thankful to see the other parents... Continue reading

We had fun camping and hiking with friends this past weekend! For the first time this Summer, I could feel Fall in the air on Saturday morning and we stayed bundled up all day while hiking and exploring Torren Shutes. Emery is teething really badly right now, the eye teeth... Continue reading

My dad took my husband and I out kayaking again on Monday night. This time we put in at the usual spot and paddling UP river, exploring new territory and getting a great workout! We had to portage when the water was too shallow and fast, but could paddle through... Continue reading

Oh man, that is such a loaded question and one that really deserves a post of its own although I don't feel nearly "expert" enough to write it! Basically it involved a rough week of transition; lots of laying her down in her crib, going back in after 5 minutes, rocking and singing, laying her down, repeat, repeat repeat.. There was a LOT of crying and after the second night my husband and I both thought maybe this wasn't working OR worth it, but by the fourth night we were hugging each other in the quiet hallway outside her door and saying YESSS. We did the usual things you hear about like baths, books and snuggles, and I nurse her right before bed, and then the most important thing *I think* we did was hand her a soft bunny that has always been in her crib with her before we left the room. Now she reaches for her bunny before falling asleep every night and they snuggle all night through. I guess it just took a while for the crib to feel like a safe place!

How is it apple picking season already? This Summer has felt like the longest Summer of my life (which is a GREAT thing) and I think it has a lot to do with the fact that on maternity leave I can finally just be outside all the time, yet Autumn... Continue reading

Our first day in Jasper was the only one without sunshiny skies, so we walked the few km trail loop around Edith Lake and stayed mostly dry under the tree cover. It wasn't actually eerie, but the dark skies made these photos my husband took of the lake appear so.... Continue reading

My brother-in-law was kind enough to water our garden for us while we were away on holidays, and we came back to big beautiful heads of lettuce, beets, peas, radishes, some small carrots that needed thinning and one cucumber! Needless to say, my first 'grocery trip' to fill our fridge... Continue reading
