I had a similar opinion when Twttr first launched. I remember trying to tweet to 40404 on my piece-of-shit Palm phone while riding in a cab to JFK. I think must have been June or July of 2006. I didn't understand the appeal of sending text messages over 40404 and did not pay attention to Twitter until a year or so later, after they made it possible to tweet from a web interface. In fact, my "first tweet: http://myfirsttweet.com/1st/camworld" wasn't until the following February, so that must have been when they had the web interface active.
