Great pick up !! Kid has the tools. I hope that Edouard sticks also, cause he is also a gamer. A school can never, stop recruiting because a "commit" may flip because they add someone else in the class at their position. It really looks like the Shapiro scandal is being neutralized by the coaching staff. Kids flip all the time and leave teams out in the cold, so schools have to protect themselves and keep recruiting various players at ALL positions. UM is building up the QB and O-Line position, that is key to building a great team and program. There is going to be so much competition at QB that it is not even funny. Now all we have to do is add 3-4 DT's, 3 DE's, and some LB's (in short, add to the defense) and we should have a really good class coming in.

9>5>2, Who said many of these kids dads are in jail or dead? Did you do a survey to see if all the BLACK guys (who you are of course referring to) have daddy's in jail or dead. Dude, I know that some guys have absentee fathers but the majority of BLACK players over the past several years (Jacory Harris, Tommy Streeter, Brandon McGhee, Ray Ray Armstrong, V.T. and numerous others, who I won't even bother to add to this list) either where raised in the same households with their fathers OR had their fathers as POSITIVE role models and active participants in their child rearing. Do not let your anger and frustration at other posters bring out stereotypical thoughts that lurk in your head and disparage the families of the young men that play on this team.

The only person that I want gone in any sport is Jeffrey Loria and he owns the team, so I hope that he sells the team and I mean soon. Now as regards UM, Blake James needs to take a serious look at the baseball program and it's leadership under Jim Morris. Coach Morris has won 2 championships with the team and that does account for something, even though the last was 12 years ago. The situation is though that this program (which was a powerhouse a whole decade before UM football was) is now an after thought in the ACC and is celebrating wins over Bethune Cookman. Bethune Cookman, are you kidding me? The low point this season had to be to lose 2 games to Boston College. The thing is that Boston College did not win any games in the ACC till they beat UM TWICE this weekend! Again, not saying Morris needs to go, but something either recruiting wise or coaching wise has to change, UM football and basketball are on the rise, while UM baseball is in a free fall and is falling way behind the pack in the ACC and nationally.

I am very happy for both Brandon and Mike. Both of their late mothers would be so proud of the men that their sons have become and I know that Brandon's dad is happy and proud of the son that he raised. To all those saying only 2 players, that is true, the talent level surely has not been what we are used to, but remember it would have been more, but many players last year fell for the lines that were feed to them by the weasel known as Drew Rosenhaus (again, UM needs to keep that guy off campus) and we had I believe 9 last season. Many were drafted late and would have been drafted in round 1-3 this year, but again, Rosenhaus lied to them about their worth. As for the talent level currently on the team we will see that the "U" will be the "U" again in the draft with the players currently on the roster and what CAG is bringing in.

I know it is a scrimmage, but to any who went to the stadium and saw, you can totally see the raw talent and control of the huddle and offense that Stephen Morris has over the other 2 quarterbacks. It is just hilarious when I remember all of the Head Coaches on this blog who stated when Ryan Williams transferred here how he should be the starter and made comments like "kid reminds me of Dorsey. Won't be long before he takes Morris' job". Only thing that makes him look like Dorsey is his jersey number. Not knocking the kid at all, but when people banged on Morris and anointed this guy starter before seeing him even take a snap, it just makes me laugh right now. Mark it down, Morris will have a lights out year and will be drafted in the first 3 rounds next year. The kid has NFL talent, to bad many of the "experts" on this blog did not and still don't see it.

Sad to say, Gallo does have a point about the roster that Shannon has being HANDS DOWN, better than CAG's roster. Now granted CAG's roster is either Freshmen or Sophomores, so time will tell with his players. As regards CAG winning with only his players, everyone knows that that is downright laughable and very comedic. Also, please do not disparage players like Stephen Moris, Duke Johnson (yes Randy recruited him b4 CAG took the job), Brandon Linder, Phillip Dorsett, Baunche, Perryman, Chick and many others who make GREAT contributions to this team and are the main reason we are winning any games, by calling them quitters and lazy. Because some people choose to bang on CAG, does not mean that you should in turn drag the good young men and players THAT SHANNON RECRUITED through the mud, it is not a mature or intelligent look. Also, some of the players look on these sites to see what the feel of the fans are and if they think that fans dislike them because they were recruited by Randy, it is not good for morale. Again, without those players, this team would be in really deep do-do.

Listen, I love Jimmy Johnson. He took what Schnellie started and amped it up and turned the program into a beast. BI like CAG also and BELIEVE that he willget the program heded back to prominence, but to say that CAG is going to succeed 100% because JJ says so is a little tricky. Truly, what did you all expect JJ to say? That CAG is suspect and until he gets rid of D'Nofrio, he may be let go? Listen, JJ is UM through and through and will NEVER bash the program. I love that about him. He is loyal. But in reality because he says he likes CAG doesn't mean anything to me because it doesn't matter if UM hired Hannibal Lechter or Martha Steart to coach the team, JJ would give them a ringing endorsement. To all those who think CAG has run everything better than the last 2 coaches, again, this is not to bash him, but the truth is the truth. The team has had more off the field incidents with him at the helm AND our defense has surely not improved under his regime, we have also not won anymore games than the previous regime, so no, everything is not better with CAG than his predecessors. On a whole CAG is a better more rounded coach, the program is in better shape and we are moving in the right direction. I am sure the CAG is working on the teams weak points and we will see how things play out for the football team. In the mean time lets get behind the basketball, baseball teams and CAG and the rest of the football coaching staff till Spring practice starts. Go Canes!!

Congratulations to Mr. James on being named the AD. He deserved it and wants to be here. He is also young, supports the programs and is a great fund raiser, something a private school like UM needs. He is the right man for the job. Congratulations to Hurlie Brown (former UM safety back in our glory days)being named UM's new running backs coach. I thought it may have been Coach Lockett from Central or former 'Cane Coach Bennett from Northeast to get the job, but I believe CAG knew what he was doing and got the right gentleman for the job. It is always great to add former 'Canes to the staff. I beleive that Lockett or Bennett may have really benefitted us as being good recruiters (coming from high school programs) and knowing how to schnmooze some of the recruits, but again adding Brown will now have another guy who truly bleeds orange and green to the staff and has a passion for the school. Again, congratulations Coach Brown to being promoted to the RB position. Now go Coach 'em up. Keep Duke, Dillard, Clements, Crawford and the rest of the guys on pace and being productive. Lastly, congratulations to UM's basketball team and Coach L. You guys are doing a superb job and really repping the U the way it should be repped. We are no longer the whooping boy for the "tobacco road" schools in the ACC. If we keep playing like this, we should wi the ACC this year (even though I believe Duke is getting better as the season moves on). Will we be this good from here on out? Realistically, probably not, but I believe we can definelty be year in, year out, a notch below Duke and UNC (maybe where Maryland used to be or in that range) and challenge for the ACC title every 2-3 years. Remember too, that next year Pittsburh and Syracuse will also be in the ACC, so it will be even more harder to win the ACC in coming years. So I hope UM strikes while the iron is hot and wins the conference and gets to, at a minimum the Elite 8 this year. Keep up the good work Coach L.

Barry, Great information, as always. UM believes that FSU negatively recruited against them? Well, we have their recruiting coordinator as our new OC, so, I believe they KNOW for a fact the FSU negatively recruited against them. Till this NCAA stuff clears up and we finally get their punishment (we have punished ourselves enough already), more teams will continue to negatively recruit against us. BTW, congratulations to former UM safety Hurlie Brown, Miami's new running backs coach. Welcome to the ON FIELD coaching staff Hurlie. Keep Duke and the rest of our guys on pace.

Alex, By the way, you will read lots of "he is scared of competition", "he wasn't good anyways", "he's such a loser". Those statements= SOUR GRAPES, pay them no mind. If you were coming to UM, you would of course be the 2nd coming, so don't pay attention. Again, there are a few (just a few) 'Canes fans who know that this was a gut wrenching decision for you, but that it is your life, not the fans, and you have to do what you feel is best.

Alex, Good luck to you and your family. As a 'Canes fan, I am disappointed, but this is a decision that you had to make for YOURSELF and YOUR future. I hope that you do well (as long as it is not against the 'Canes somewhere down the line). Get your degree and stay healthy. It will be extremely hard to find, but not all UM fans are sour graped 5 year olds who will now degrade you and your decision since you will not be coming to Coral Gables. YOU have to do what you think is best for YOU. All the best.

Guys, I know no one knows 100%, but where do you think these guys nd up going. Jermaine Grace, I personally believe he will be a 'Cane. How do you guys feel about Matt Thomas, Bostwick, Stacey Coley, and Kirkland? Do you believe with James Coley comingf over they are also coming to UM or do you believe that FSU will get them>? Also, do you think we flip anyone (like Rahard Robinson from Ely, a LSU commit)? Speaking of Ely, ever since Patrick Johnson...eeer Peterson went their, they have had a pipeline into that school. The school develops good players, due you think having Coley and Cristobal on staff, we can make inroads in there again. UM has had a long history of getting players out of Ely before Peterson went to LSU. I would like to see us get back into the mix with that school and Northwestern. Amari Cooper and Teddy B. are winners and should be wearing green and orange.

Fisch took the opportunity to move up in his field, you can't blame him for that. Most of us on here would've done the same thing. How many people are going to say no to an opportunity to move towards the top of your field - not many. Good luck to Fisch. Posted by: Canesjunkie | January 23, 2013 at 09:06 AM T H I S!!!

Champs, You are right about QB development. The thing with Jimbo's offense and the latter offenses of Coach Bowden's era was that they were always looking for a dual threat QB, whereas UM is all about the pro-style QB. Now, we don't mind if the QB is athletic, but we want a pocet passer first, who CAN run, if needs be. The issue is that all these college teams and now some NFL (see Redskins and 49ers) are going to the spread/read option style of offense. Miami has always be pro-style (ala Alabama, USC, Stanford). The pool for talented OC's who run pro-set is dwindling. Due to this, I trust CAG and if he thinks Coley can run the style of offesne that suits Morris and the other QB's on the roster AND similar to what Coach Fisch had, then I think it would be a good move. Truth be told, there are probably several teams out there who run a good pro-set in the WAC, MAC and the traditional power conferences that we don't watch on a regular basis, but are good at what they do. If I had my wish though, as regards college coaches, I would go with the OC at Stanford. I love the way the run the pro-set. Their offense is so balanced it's not even funny. While their guys beat players who will go on to the NFL into submission, the majority of thier guys go on to be doctors, engineers, lawyers and scientist.

Btw, I know I stated the Coach Cristobal is not a play caller and James Coley is also not a play caller. The difference is that while Coley is not an "actual" play caller, he is involved with everything else related to being an OC. Mario is not. A coach who coaches the RB's, WR's and TE's are more apt to make the move and become OC's. The one offensive position that is usually hard to convert over to being an OC is being an offensive line coach. The last coach whose expertise was being an OL coach and made the jump to being an OC is jobless right now. I'm sure that he would jump at the opportunity to get back into coaching next year, he may be a little expensive though......maybe CAG can call Bill Parcell's and get Tony's number? I'm sure Sporano would at least take CAG's call.

Couple of things. One poster stated, get Mike Leach!! First off Mike Leach does not run a pro-style offense. Secondly, why would MIke Leach take a demotion and become Miami's OC, when he is already the OC at Washington State and more importantly the HEAD COACH??!!! Mario Cristobal is a good HC and a great OL coach. He is also a great recruiter. Coach Cristobal is NOT a play caller, so while he is great at other things football related and a real asset to the program, he would make a horrible OC. If CAG can get Coley, it would be great. Look, David Shaw never called plays at Stanford, but he was the OC. When Harbaugh left and went to San Fran, Shaw was the play caller and did an excellent job. The majority of these guys who are OC's, but the HC calls the plays, are the ones who develop the schemes and the match-up. The are just as good, but the HC just calls the plays. The OC's in these positions are competent, they just have to be given a chance.

Ron Fraser was a one of a kind at UM. When the football team was run of the mill and almost disbanded and the "U", was not the "U", Coach Fraser built the baseball team into an elite program. He meant so much to the Coral Gables, Miami and South Florida community. I won't wax poetic about him, but I will conclude with this thought..... when guys that I love like Schnellie, J.J., Erickson and Butch all made it big and eventually left, Coach Fraser stuck around (and yes he had chances to go to the Majors and make mega money- at the time) and continued to build UM baseball into a beast of a program (top 5 in my opinion). As UM sports fans, especially fans of the football program, we all would be blessed to get a Coach with Coach Fraser's eye for talent, player development, coaching ability, innovation and most important loyalty to the program and school. My prayers and sympathy go out to the Fraser family. R.I.P. Coach Fraser, unfortunately Coral Gables will not see a coach the likes of you ever again.
