Keep up the good work, Manny.
Didn't get to watch the game but I'm looking forward to Saturday and (hopefully) a good, hard fought victory up at Chapel Hill. Fingers crossed, kids. Let's show this ACC what we're about.
Beyond the Boxscore: UM-Maryland
Frank Haith opened his post game press conference with the same thought everyone in the room had: "What a game." He was right. No team in UM history -- at least since 1991 -- had mounted a bigger comeback than the Canes did in their 62-60 win over Maryland, rallying from 17 down with a little ove...
Anyone know where a fella could watch this streaming online if he's out in California?
Shooting 3: Maryland Q&A
I know we usually keep our Q&As with out of town writers strictly to football, but with ACC play really heating up and the Canes (12-3, 1-1) set to take on Maryland (12-3, 1-0) tonight in a rather large early conference game I figured I'd try to do it with hoops. This week, I exchanged emails w...
Manny,
Fair assessments of the team, I'd say. And while this loss (like any loss) hurts, I have to say I don't feel as immediately downtrodden as I did last year.
Q: Is it silly to still feel as optimistic as I do about this team? ie: not the potential for big things this season, but the potential for a positive uptick this season?
That being said -- what are our chances next week against FSU? Should my parents make the drive down from Jupiter again? That drive home from Joe Robbie after a loss, while better than driving all the way from Little Havana, it still sucks.
Progress report: North Carolina
One of things I've shied away from on this blog is grading this team on a week-to-week basis. I never liked getting my report card when I was in school because it usually meant I was going to be grounded (my parents weren't happy when they saw anything less than B). So, when I got to high school,...
Got to say that I think you're doing a great job Manny. Informative and moving articles and a consistent blog presence that keeps this Cane in Los Angeles's belly filled with sweet, sweet morsels of 'Cane information.
Keep up the good work, young buck!
Shannon shakes up depth chart
Robert Marve was asked Tuesday afternoon how long it would be before we got to see him and Jacory Harris start throwing the ball down the field more. Before the question could be completed, Marve answered: "I hope in a couple of days." Don't hold your breath Canes fans. Texas A&M, which will hos...
As always, great job Manny. Thanks for the updates. Can not wait for Saturday to get here.
'09 Recruit Report
One weekly feature I'd like to add to the blog is an update on how the Canes' next recruiting class is doing in high school. This isn't an original idea. Plenty of newspapers have done this in the past. But with how important the future is at UM, I figured this would be a perfect way for you the ...
5 Rings -
I dug the entry-by-entry response to that inane canesrule entry.
I would've done it myself, but I was too busy helping a Lady Gator make a cuckold out of her Gator boyfriend. True story.
Life's grand!
Calling Out Gator Haters
After a long night of uploading audio and video to our Herald website, I decided to pass on this morning's press conference with coach Randy Shannon since our Susan Miller Degnan was going to be there anyway. And because, well, let's face it: Randy wasn't going to stir the pot this morning anyway...
I miss football season.
Scrimmage No. 2 wrap-up
The second scrimmage of the fall is in the books and for the first time since Media Day we got a chance to speak with UM's top two quarterbacks -- Robert Marve and Jacory Harris. Before I get to what they had to say, we'll recap what happened and what we learned. >Travis Benjamin needs a better n...
Eric B and Rakim.
Two smooth operators operating correctly.
Courtside blog: UM 63, N.C. State 50 (F)
I'm here in Charlotte for today's first round ACC Tournament game between UM-N.C. State. As usual, I'll provide you my thoughts as the game goes on. The Seminoles knocked off Wake Forest 70-60 in today's first game. That's not necessarily good news for UM considering the 'Noles have two wins ov...
Cricket? You gotta know what a crumpet is to play cricket...
Big win for `Canes
I figured the `Canes needed to at least split this two-game homestand to keep alive their NCAA tourney hopes. I just didn't expect them to get that victory tonight. But if UM can steal another victory against Maryland, the chances of making the Big Dance become likelier. This week coach Frank H...
Was driving from New Mexico to Tucson, AZ and had to listen to the game on XM Radio. I was white knuckling it past semis at 80 mph for those last few seconds until Joe Z on QAM confirmed the victory. Was wearing my Miami Northwestern t-shirt. Clearly, it's blessed.
Great day to be a Miami Hurricane!
Courtside Blog: UM 96, Duke 95 (F)
The frantic finish is over. Duke is done making three-pointers. And the Hurricanes have the big victory coach Frank Haith was looking for. Perhaps, not only for this 2008 season and his team's NCAA tournament hopes -- but the kind you can brag to potential program-changing recruits about. The en...
An example of Hurricane Warning

So. Awesome.
Wednesday's Q&A
Hate to do this to you guys, but a long day at the airport, followed by another long night helping my brother move is going to force me to answer questions later tonight and not do this week's session live. My apologies. Feel free to start leaving questions for me below. I hope to be on tonight...
By the by, I know all of our fellow Cane fans love the player's version of Ballin' Boys. But I was watching our first NC against Nebraska on a tape I recorded off of ESPN Classic (hate how they skip through key parts of the game on a whim), and after Nebraska went for two and missed, the announcers kept quite quite as the camera panned around the OB (*sniff*) and an amazingly awful/awesome song played that sounded like a Ballin' Boys circa '83/'84. I think it was called "Hurricane Warning" and featured an awesome line about beating Nebraska and kicking them "where the corn don't grow."
Would anyone have ANY idea what I'm talking about? And, by god, if you do know, would you know where to find a copy of this song?
I know it's not a typical Q & A question, but shoot, Manny, you've got a line on all things The U. Any help would be sweeeeeeeet.

Wow. I've been drinking vodka and Monster (I prefer red bull, but when it's free, I won't complain) and thought I'd come on to see if any word's been given on the DC. Little did I know that the Man(ny) himself would be on posting.
We love you in LA, Manny! All the news that's fit to blog. We appreciate it.

Come on boys, keep it goin'. Make it look presentable.

Checking in from the Conte Forum up here in Boston where the 21st-ranked Canes are set to take on a familiar nemesis, Boston College. The Eagles have won 12 consecutive games in this series. But this is one the Canes need to win if they're going to prove they're among the elite in the ACC. This...
Slick beard on Rios. Hopefully it translates to slick play. Oops. Spoke too soon. Airball.

Hey Manny,
Where's our offense and defense? Not liking what I'm seeing so far on FSN.

Manny,
I was at a couple of the cakewalk games a couple weeks ago against the North Floridas of the world, and I was looking for you. Do you sit at the back left corner of that little media section of the bleachers? I wanted to give a shout out but I wasn't sure if that was you or not.
The girlfriend's making me take her to a movie otherwise I'd be with y'all at the ol' Bank United Center. I'm lovin' the info, man. Thanks for the work. True Cane fans appreciate it.
Courtside blog: UM 88, Penn 62 (F)
Happy New Year. It's Wednesday night. It's cold. And I'm indoors here at BankUnited Center to watch the Hurricanes take on Penn. I'll take you through the game. Feel free to drop your thoughts. FIRST HALF... - Penn is 4-8. The Quakers tied a dubious NCAA record with six points in the first half ...
Agree with Cane Mutiny. If y'all are fans, you'll watch the Canes whup on Winthrop tomorrow.
And my apologies to LAcane for the similar sounding name, but you're not the only Cane in LA. Figured there's room for one more representing the Left Coast.
Kirby Freeman leaving UM
We've wondered if he would return. Now, we know he won't. Kirby Freeman has asked the University of Miami for a release from scholarship, which means the Hurricanes will not have a veteran arm on its roster next season. Freeman hasn't had the type of career he envisioned when he came to UM. His ...
