We Talkin' About Practice?
Sure it was only practice and we all know that NBA star Allen Iverson will be appalled if we keep talking about it, but just for you die hard football junkies here is some more news and a few notes from around the Internet about the open practice on Saturday. Don’t be surprised if Mike "Sm...
RoachCane - Brother Jimmy's sounds like it's a bad place. I had read that it was okay but if CaneSpacers are saying it sucks, then it must be true. (BTW someone should really tell Jonathan Vilma that his restaurant is getting bashed by his biggest fans!)
I wouldn't worry though. You might not be able to watch it in 3D, but you won't have any trouble finding a great sports bar in NYC to enjoy the game.

It's still very early in the process. We have a great year (2 losses or less) and some of those guys switch over to The U.

Cmon, they have televisions in Minnesota. It's not like they are Alaska or something like that....

That might be true but for a game of this magnitude I was hoping to be around Canes fans. I wonder if there's a Minneapolis or Minnesota Canes Alumni group or something? Hmmm....

Wet Your Pants Tour 2010: Part II

Cassano Wins The Lotto
Everyone is familiar with the phrase: "It is better to be lucky than good." And when it comes to being lucky, Mike Cassano is your man. Now that's not to say Cassano is not a good coach, but when it comes to being in the right place at the right time, Miami's new running backs coach could not ...
If Cassano and Petri won the lotto and powerball, respectively, then what do we call what happened to Boss Man when he took over, which was the total opposite? Stock market crash? Identity theft? What's the opposite of winning the lotto?

By that logic you must reject Shannon as our head coach because he doesn't have a Conference title, Division title, Bowl Win. Not even a winning record in the conference, and we are talking the ACC here...
Posted by: BEERicane | July 27, 2010 at 05:27 PM
In the famous words of Lee Corso, "Not so fast my friend!"
Shannon's been HC at Miami ~4 years; Beamer's been at VaTech since 1987! The two coaches aren't comparable. Moreover, NO coach would last at Miami as long as Beamer has without a national title.
Simply put, Miami and VaTech have different standards when it comes to judging their coaches, and rightfully so since Miami and VaTech, despite the fact they play us so well, are on different stratospheres when it comes to college football.
By VaTech standards, Frank Beamer is a legendary coach. VaTech is a program that values a coach who will bring them 10-win seasons and conference championships, even if they can't hang with any of the elite national powers or compete for a national title. Conference championships are as good as it gets at VaTech and Beamer is an elite coach at meeting this standard.
However, by Miami standards, conference titles alone won't fly. We're The U! After you've had a taste of the national title--and we've had plenty of tastes!--there's no going back. By our standards, Beamer is a failure and would've been canned at The U a million years ago.

OSU admits it committed several **minor** violations, like having former players recruit for OSU and having Pryor text SH.
I have no idea what if any penalty OSU will receive or self-impose. Nothing major, I presume.
I'm also worried about the rule barring former players from recruiting for their schools, especially considering SH decided to visit Miami the same weekend a record-number of our alumni were playing in the pro bowl in the same city.
We'll see what happens.

Good point JW... maybe there's a similar rule that says you can't talk about a player until he starts classes or something (similar to the LOI rule). Either way we'll know what the deal is in a week as SH is supposed to start classes on Aug 3rd or 4th.
BTW, check out the size of SH's hands!!!

Shannon would not discuss newest recruit Seantrel Henderson, an offensive lineman and the nation's top-rated player, expected to report to fall camp.

This probably means SH still needs to get his LOI in. Coaches are not allowed to publicly talk about recruits until the LOI is in.

RE: The Toledo game:
"The [Toledo] Rockets play at the Glass Bowl, which has a capacity of 26,000 but can hold another 10,000 with extra temporary seating."
So the Canes are playing in a venue that only holds 36,000 (with extra seating)? You sure we aren't talking about baseball or basketball?

I doubt there were any current Canes at this party, and even if there were, it doesn't necessarily mean anything.
The fact that this party was thrown by a former Cane in Miami though will undeniably mean more scrutiny for our program.
But like I said, I think we're good. It would seem completely uncharacteristic for this current group of Canes. Let's cross our fingers just in case though.
