she is a lovely doll...having collected dolls my whole life and having 3 daughters, we have had a lot of dolls in our house. My only comment though is a doll is meant to play with, to sit on the table. Putting her in that glass case is reminiscent of a casket like that snow white laid in and it's a bit weird. Bring her out into your world, sit her on the table so you can enjoy her and she can bring joy to you.

Excellent post...the good, the bad, the ugly...the downside of the creative spirit, getting ripped off. And, to all the nay-sayers about social media being a time suck, as you said, your voice was heard and heard almost immediately, not like the old days when you had to wait for weeks for a reply to your letter. I will post tomorrow about how this infringement affected me, since I had 4 copywritten designs that I know about that were infringed. After Home Comfort rugs notified me I wrote an email to Paula Deen's people who then forwarded it to Kaleen who then contacted me by their Executive VP, all within a few hours. The internet has provided us with a forum for our voice to be heard. No more are we just going to take this nonsense, we now can turn to social media to let the world know the truth.

Just a comment about Libby's comment above. I have exhibited at Surtex since the 2nd year of the show. During those early years no one even knew what art licensing was. No one could see the merit in "licensing artwork" from an unknown designer. The show grew quickly as the word got out about this opportunity for artist's to exhibit their work on a national scale. I honestly do not remember the show being as small as she refers to since the early years it was mostly textile studios anyhow with only a few of us who designed for giftware so you are really comparing apples and oranges here. The point is now that after the show had grown and was successful for many years, it has now diminished in size and statue. I cannot imagine who she is referring to as "fabulous leads and people we would never have met in a million years" since an experienced designer knows who all the major companies are in the business, there is no mystery to that. The opportunity to meet face to face is a good one I agree, but to have to pay $4 or $5,000 for a booth in a show where the traffic is so sparse just doesn't seem prudent to me right now. And, remember, a "Lead" is just that. It is not a signed contract or deal, it is just a lead. Too many artists over the last few years have gotten great leads, only to watch them wither on the vine and not carry through to contract. Unfortunately, I think Surtex is just another example of what the economy has touched with manufacturers out of business, bankrupt, or not solvent. The major players are still in the game but many of them did not come to the show due to travel budget cuts or the fact that they already had the line for next year completed. In many cases Surtex is just too late especially for Christmas lines. I would be curious to see how many signed contracts come out of the show for Libby...that is the reality in this market. Just some thoughts to share. best, carol

Welcome back. The thing that is so wonderful about being a creative soul is that you can create wherever you are...I take a book with me when I travel anywhere, making notations of things that inspire me, sketching what I see, jotting down ideas. It is not so important what your studio physically looks like, it is what your create from inside that matters. here's to the originals of the world, loved Norway when we visited last year! best, carol

nice story about your Mom...my Mom did the same thing for us and still does...she even put notes in my sandwiches that I took to school sometimes, more as a surprise than a love note I think. I do the same thing for my girls even now... those nice touches that we learn from our Mothers stay with us no matter how old we become. Aren't we lucky to have such loving and caring and wonderful Mothers? Happy Valentines...love the vintage glass heart! best, carol
