More Favorites
The last post I did sharing some favorites was last year, so today felt as good a day as any to make a new one! I decided this time to focus on people whose overall galleries I love, specifically on flickr, since that's the easiest way to do it. Keith Parelli [on Flickr] I actually only came across Keith's Flickr a few hours ago, but instantly got lost in it. I could easily spend an hour looking at each individual piece if I let myself, and had a hard time not favoriting everything. Jon Jacobsen [on Flickr] Jon is one... Continue reading

warmly in the cocoon of her own thoughts
First, title was taken from this: "The mind can weave itself warmly in the cocoon of its own thoughts, and dwell a hermit anywhere." ~ James Russell Lowell Second, the idea came from these pictures i've seen a bunch of times over the past few years, of trees that had been cocooned in spider webs after flooding had driven all sorts of insects into them. If you haven't see them yet you can head over here: [link] I'd thought about using some of my fake spider webs, but logistically it would have been a nightmare, so i went with my... Continue reading

Online and In-person Mentoring & Workshops
I have a lot of things in the works, and I guess we'll see what I actually end up getting done [not being negative, just trying to keep it real] however one thing i'm trying to follow through with is mentoring sessions! I've spoken a few times in a few different contexts about how, despite how long i've been a photographer, I have a hard time feeling like I have anything to teach other people. And i'm constantly told i'm wrong. =) And considering that i've found that I really enjoy it when I do take the time to help... Continue reading

Process In Progress
Anyone who has kept up with me for a while knows I don't have much of a process. I don't even know where my ideas come from half the time. Stuff pops up, and I shoot it. Easy Peasy! But eventually it clicked in my head that maybe my lack of understanding might be part of the problem when it comes to my being unhappy with a lot of my work. If i haven't changed much of how I do things in 10 or so years, so why am I expecting different outcome? From there things have branched out some,... Continue reading

Mini Mail Art Exchange
Last week I started work on a blog entry where I was sharing some of the things i've been doing lately to help me get out of a long time art funk, which I think can at least partially be blamed on being self taught. I thought sharing this stuff might help other photographers who also have been going about things without any classes/teachers to help them along. Anyways, it ended up being hard to write for some reason, so i've set it aside for now. But, while writing it I thought more about the things I still need to... Continue reading

Ack, I couldn't do that! I much prefer people buy big prints. =)
Obviously I don't help myself out much.
I Hate.Shipping.Prints.
I've been selling and shipping prints now for maybe 10 or so years, and I still don't have it figured out. This is annoying, especially since i've spent hours talking to people, hearing what they prefer, and researching different materials and figuring out prices and on and on. And i've done thi...
I Hate.Shipping.Prints.
I've been selling and shipping prints now for maybe 10 or so years, and I still don't have it figured out. This is annoying, especially since i've spent hours talking to people, hearing what they prefer, and researching different materials and figuring out prices and on and on. And i've done this over and over again. For small prints it's relatively easy and i'm fine with how I do those now. Put print in resealable cello bag/envelope, sandwich between cardboard sheets, tape, place in poly bubble envelope, add some sort of extra, put a bunch of 'do not bend' stickers... Continue reading

Come sit for me! "Models" needed for long term portrait series
I'm beginning work on what will be a mixed-media series of portraits that will probably be in progress for a while. I need people who are not only willing to come to me to have some relatively simple portraits taken, but who are also willing to answer some not so simple, and kind of personal, questions about themselves. Gender and age don't really matter, beyond that you'll need to be 18 or older. Honestly, the answers to my questions are more important than what you look like as they'll guide me in completing the final portrait. Location wise, I live... Continue reading

a little love for some 'old timers' - 3 amazing photographers
I am both blessed and cursed that the following 3 artists live very far from me. Cursed because they're all amazing women whom i've wanted to force to be my BFF's for a while now. [They might be that willingly, but i'm obviously not willing to take the chance.] Blessed because i just called them...

time to start over
When i was thinking about this shooting this image last night, trying to work out all the details, i realized the only table i had that i could mess up like this was the same one i shot 'remains of the day' with, and from there decided to pay homage to that a little bit by setting this up similarly. Here's that image for those not familiar with it: Crazy to think that was a little more than 6 years ago! Anyways, if you follow me elsewhere you probably already know by now that i finally have an instagram account:... Continue reading

New Work - big hair & magnifying sheet fun
Photography wise things have been interesting for me. On one hand, i've been super inspired lately, and the file on my computer i write all my ideas down into has been getting longer and longer. But on the other hand, i've had very little motivation to actually shoot any of it. Part of that is difficulty, a lot of them are ideas i could shoot as self portraits, but not easily, which leads to my constant dilemna of do i wait or shoot it with myself, because shooting it with myself likely means relying more heavily on altering things digitally....
