As is typical of my blog posts here I could start apologizing for having gone so long between posts, and since i've already done it a million times before, let's just assume i've said it and move on, ok? My summer vacation ended last week, and with it my ability to focus solely on photo projects. My plan was semi-successful, I definitely got MORE photo related stuff done, but of course things pop up and change the plan and so it wasn't quite all I hoped it would be. But, something is better than nothing, right? And i'm pretty happy... Continue reading

Hi Martha! I have it setup so there are coupon codes that are used at checkout and it automatically discounts the percentage off the whole order. Haven't had any problems with it.

Poster Print Giveaway! What you could win: A 16x20 or 16x24 matte finish poster print of any one of my images. (No frame/mat/mounting, just the print.) Size will depend either on your preference and/or the image you choose. (To be safe, try and have backups in case your first choice can't be printed that large. Or check to see if your first choice is in my Etsy Shop, because then you'll see if I offer it in either of these sizes.) Print will be archival, and signed on the back. It'll all be the exact same as what I sell... Continue reading

So! I have signed up at Patreon! For those who don't know about Patreon it essentially allows people, namely artists, musicians and the like, to find people who would like to pledge money to help support their work, basically becoming their patrons. Everyone can set it up differently, with different levels of pledges, each having no incentives or perks, or many. Creators can ask to get pledges per creation, or per month, and patrons can even set caps on how much they're willing to spend per month, so they don't end up being broke helping others out. At first I... Continue reading

One of the hardest parts about shooting things the way I do is finding the "right" items to buy. Often i'm destructive, or at the very least unkind to the clothing and props I use, but at the same time I appreciate beautiful, vintage items. For me, those two things don't often mesh well. I don't want to destroy something old and amazing, yet know that it's likely to happen when shooting certain ideas. I typically try and find already messed up old items, but it's not always easy to do so. Add on that i'm always on a tight... Continue reading

Part 1 / Part 2 I saved this part for last because I’m probably the worst person to talk about promoting one’s work, be it prints or in general. (I guess I’m about as good as promoting my work as I am of inspiring confidence in this blog post!) I don’t enjoy it, I don’t want to do it, and while I do more than the bare minimum, there’s still a good chance I could do So Much More. So this is more about what I HAVE done and what I’ve seen from it, and surely it’s enough to at... Continue reading

(This is Part 2, go here to view Part 1 if you haven't already.) Woohoo, the guts of it all! Listings! Which, at first, not a woohoo at all, but if you set it up right it can be a copy and paste affair of quick and easy awesomeness! Patience is DUMB.....but necessary. Stupid patience. My first listing suggestion is, if you’re new to Etsy, do NOT list everything at once. I know, it’s hard to fight that urge. You’re there, you’re ready to go, you’ve done all the pre-planning, you’re all set to rock Etsy’s face off and become... Continue reading

First, i'm going to come right out and say that I went back and forth about writing about this for a while. Why? Because i'm a jerk! With almost everything photo related, over the past 10+ years I've had to learn through trial and error and doing the legwork to find answers myself. I've helped people out along the way, and often, but lets just say I didn't do it willy nilly. So for a while now i've had an attitude about not just sharing everything all the time with everyone. Which now feels dumb, and so here I am.... Continue reading

As expected when I started school, photo stuff has fallen to the side, and with it updates to this blog. I am still working on little things from time to time, and hope to get better at squeezing in shoots during semesters when I have the time, but I can't guarantee i'll get better at keeping this place up to date like I do others. [If you don't already, i'd suggest following my instagram, twitter, or facebook page, since I do update those regularly.] I'm also going to just slip my year in review in here, since it's going to... I think I decided a year ago to sell these. Which means it has taken me a year to finish cleaning them all out. I suck! =) There are 30 of the small ones, 24 of the tall ones. The tall ones I bought new, but I added the labels, hand wrote the numbers, and aged both the labels and the corks to look more like the vintage small ones. I left the labels on, but they're easy enough to remove. [Peel em off and use a little oil to get the sticky stuff off. Easy peasy. I can do... Continue reading

I recently had some prints returned to me that had been used for a show years ago, and so i'm offering them up to you guys for whatever you'd like to pay for them. [Within reason!] The top ones are all matted, and framed in clip frames with glass [save for one that broke during shipping.] If you want them framed there will be a higher shipping cost. If you want them just matted, shipping will depend on how much you offer. [So if i'm cool with your price, I might not ask for any extra for shipping basically.] This... Continue reading

The last post I did sharing some favorites was last year, so today felt as good a day as any to make a new one! I decided this time to focus on people whose overall galleries I love, specifically on flickr, since that's the easiest way to do it. Keith Parelli [on Flickr] I actually only came across Keith's Flickr a few hours ago, but instantly got lost in it. I could easily spend an hour looking at each individual piece if I let myself, and had a hard time not favoriting everything. Jon Jacobsen [on Flickr] Jon is one... Continue reading

First, title was taken from this: "The mind can weave itself warmly in the cocoon of its own thoughts, and dwell a hermit anywhere." ~ James Russell Lowell Second, the idea came from these pictures i've seen a bunch of times over the past few years, of trees that had been cocooned in spider webs after flooding had driven all sorts of insects into them. If you haven't see them yet you can head over here: [link] I'd thought about using some of my fake spider webs, but logistically it would have been a nightmare, so i went with my... Continue reading

You can see a quick post HERE with some very vague info [for now] on my in person and online mentoring workshop thingy. [That's not its official name. Or is it?] Basically this giveaway is for me to work out some of the kinks and figure out how exactly to do this the right way online. So I don't have a strict guideline of what it is you'll be receiving other than this: We'll discuss what you feel you need, or want, to learn, and what type of images you'd like to take and go from there. You can ask... Continue reading

I have a lot of things in the works, and I guess we'll see what I actually end up getting done [not being negative, just trying to keep it real] however one thing i'm trying to follow through with is mentoring sessions! I've spoken a few times in a few different contexts about how, despite how long i've been a photographer, I have a hard time feeling like I have anything to teach other people. And i'm constantly told i'm wrong. =) And considering that i've found that I really enjoy it when I do take the time to help... Continue reading

[Click image to see larger] My first [sucessfully finished] mixed media pieces. These are two 13x19 inkjet prints with a layer of tissue paper attached to them. Left one [Still Ending] was punctured and torn, right one [and Beginning Still] was dealt the same treatment, then ripped up to the head, and sewn back together on the bottom with white thread. Harder to see in the small version, but the needle is still in there. Title from William Cowper [Book III, The Garden.] I have another version of these that I posted a few places a week or so ago,...
