This is terrific stuff, Bernie. I won't be at #elss but I hope that your talk will be recorded. I've much to learn in this area and hope to learn some of it from you! :)

One more thought: I agree with your general argument above, very well made. We simply must be more creative in dealing with the disruption in our longheld learning and teaching models. I don't agree, however, that we are heading for a "teacherless" education system. I think that teacher's roles will change immensely though, and we -- all of us in education -- need to be thinking about that and preparing for it, together.

Hi Bernie - delighted to read this post this morning! I am engaged in similar discussions here and yesterday posted a factual summary of online education developments that I've been using in my discussions with many people who aren't as aware of these trends (but should be). http://catherinecronin.wordpress.com/ I'm looking forward to our meeting in Galway next week, and to talking about this in some more detail... as well as plans for continuing collaboration between our students.

Great idea, Bernie. I'd be happy to be involved. Like Nigel, this year was my first ICT in Education conference -- it was a wonderful opportunity to meet other educators in Ireland, across all sectors and levels. Coming so soon afer the launch of #edchatie, it enhanced my enjoyment and engagement of #edchatie even further. I'm very interested in the intiative you describe above. My particular interest would be to try to engage more people from HE to join the already great participation from other education sectors.

Morning, Josie. Just want to let you know that I posted one of your quotes from this post in the 3x5 campaign. Hope you are OK with that. Yours was one of the #purposed posts that has stayed with me. As an educator and a mother, I think it is so important to think of education not as a means of reproducing what we already know, what "is", but to prepare ourselves and our children to accept (embrace!) and deal with uncertainty and change, particularly social change.

What a challenging and inspiring Purpos/ed post. You pose important questions for us all: as educators are we willing to be vulnerable, to be challenged, to change and to be changed? Thanks for expressing this so beautifully -- I think that your post captures the purpose of parenthood as well as the purpose of education. :)
