As a Christian, I certainly know that followers of our faith tradition feel a sense of obligation about sharing their faith with others. It's considered a mandate from Jesus himself. Fair enough. But there can be huge differences in approach...

The current pressure on the Maori Party over water rights is symptomatic of wider tensions within Maori society. The party’s ‘will they or won’t they leave’ dramatics are characterised by Gordon Campbell as ‘that of a battered spouse, a pitiable creature who will swallow any indignity in return for the few crumbs of what the relationships once promised to offer’ (see Tariana Turia is facing a Katie Holmes moment) but the issues go beyond parliamentary fortunes. I like Google Plus. Some of the smartest people I've ever read are on Google Plus, and the Hangout is amazing.
But Google is doing everything it can to force Google Plus on everyone, and it's pissing me off.
By crippling functionality on sites Google owns (like YouTube) and forcing users to "upgrade" to a service that they may not want or need to get that functionality back, Google is making a huge and annoying mistake.

Link: Democracy Now! | EXCLUSIVE...9/11 Debate: Loose Change Filmmakers vs. Popular Mechanics Editors of "Debunking 9/11 Myths". AMY GOODMAN: As we take on the issue of what happened on September 11th, 2001, our guests are Dylan Avery, writer and director of Loose Change; Jason Bermas, researcher for the film; James Meigs is also with us, editor-in-chief of Popular Mechanics; and David Dunbar, executive editor of Popular Mechanics, who led the editorial team that produced the book, Debunking 9/11 Myths. Jim Meigs, you’re the editor-in-chief of Popular Mechanics; your response to this excerpt of Loose Change about what happened in Shanksville? JAMES MEIGS: You know, that clip is really interesting, because it shows how slickly made this film is, how compelling it is at asking a series of sort of hanging questions and putting some spooky music behind it and making it sound as if someone’s covering up these facts. But a brave researcher can dig down and put all the pieces together. In fact, there's answers to all those questions. If you look at the sources that were used throughout that clip, they’re all things that came up in the first day or two after the attacks. In some cases, somebody is standing across the field and saying, “I don't see a plane.” Well, when a plane strikes the ground at 500 miles an hour, flying almost straight down, there typically isn't much visible above ground. They also quote the coroner in the Shanksville area. We talked to the coroner....

Republicans and Democrats Both Want to Kill You! By Phil of Phil's Stock World What is happening to this country? Robert Reich points out that, in announcing the Republicans’ new budget and tax plan Tuesday, House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan said “We are sharpening the contrast between the path that we’re proposing and the path of debt and decline the president has placed us upon.” But the plan doesn’t do much to reduce the debt. Even by its own estimate the deficit would drop to $166 billion in 2018 and then begin growing again. The real contrast is over...
