This is reminiscent of the book 'Why marriages succeed or fail' by Gottman. He put grad students on the job of analyzing video of couples interacting. If you have too many negative moments vs. positive ones in your marriage he can predict failure within 4 years with 95% accuracy. The ratio is 5:1. If you make a snide comment you must now do 5 nice things to recover.
It's a spooky book.
