I don't tend to write about personal things on Pretty Vintage, but today I'm making an exception, because today I'm writing about my beautiful Nana's first novel, based on her many conversations with her grandmother. Fire in the Hole is... Continue reading

A friend of mine on Facebook mentioned these incredible photos, which are a rare full-colour glimpse into the years of WWII in a rural US town. For some reason, I always think of those times in black-and-white, never in colour,... Continue reading

I spent the weekend recovering from jetlag and catching up on my favourite blogs and stumbled upon this fabulous video, found by fellow Aussie Frances Baker. The detailing on these beautiful gowns from the late 30s is just magnificent... nowadays,... Continue reading

I'm sorry to hear you had such a poor time with your dress! :( I purchased a 14, but it fits reasonably well, and while I agree that some of the fabric isn't of the greatest quality, I wasn't bothered at the time, because it looked so good on, and I didn't find any issues with the finish of the dress (I thought it was quite good). Might it be wortwhile contacting Hell Bunny regarding the quality, and perhaps they'll exchange it for one that's not so troublesome?

My favourite aspect of World War II fashions is the make do and mend, thrifting mentality that the lovely ladies of that time used to keep their look fresh and beautiful. Where there's a will there's a way, as the... Continue reading

When I saw these amazing bangles, my first thought was that I had to share them with Pretty Vintage readers! You all know of my love for reworked, recreated vintage pieces, and if this isn't the perfect example of gorgeous... Continue reading

I remember when I was small, before portable DVD players and when the radio was the biggest luxury item you'd find in a car, that long car journeys were a mix of eye-spy, reading my Famous Five books and colouring... Continue reading

I've always been partial to a bit of Royal Albert loveliness - something about the sweet patterns and history of the brand that make them awfully enticing, I think! Now, I also love cupcakes, so I was absolutely delighted when... Continue reading

Now, the quickest way to make me love something is to make it in purple, preferably with rainbow-coloured accents, and while you're at it, why not add an antique-looking kiss-lock clasp and turn all this fabulousness into a doctor's styled... Continue reading

There's something awfully romantic about hand-made gifts, but if you're not the crafty sort, what can you do to avoid cheesy cliches this Valentine's Day? Visit Etsy, that's what! Where they hand-make things for you! I really love this hand-stitched... Continue reading

It's probably odd to say this, but I'm a big fan of magnets. I have friends across the world who send me all kinds of lovely magnets with poems and pictures with which to adorn my fridge - and which... Continue reading

There is nothing like a beautiful dress to make your heart sing with joy, unless it's a beautifully photographed dress, in which case there's singing and happy squeeing here at Pretty Vintage! I love Etsy, but when I find Etsy... Continue reading

Just thought I'd comment that I FINALLY got my blue coat (it was waiting in the UK for me) and it is a fantastic coat. Absolutely love it and wore it everywhere over my hols.. I'm looking forward to when it cools down in Oz so that I can wear it again!

I am declaring 2010 to be the Year of the Dinner Party - at least, it will be at my house! I went to my first 'How to Host a Murder' dinner party about six months ago (a 1930s party!)... Continue reading

Aww, thank you, Nikki! *blushing* I do like to pretend to be a walking flower garden, though. The only perfume I tend to wear is Crabtree & Evelyn's Rosewater... so I can walk around SMELLING like a rose garden too. :) I'm a flower nut, for sure!

Also - wow! A goth club! I don't think I'd ever be quite brave enough to venture into one, but I thought I could prettify this and... who am I kidding? I'm going to need to go to a goth club, aren't I. :)

Aww, I'm glad you like it! Unfortunately, it didn't arrive in time for our trip to Edinburgh, so I've had to resort to my back-up dress that I (luckily) bought yesterday! Not quite as gothic, but still pouffy and cool :)
