The star-studded village of St Tropez on the French Riviera is really a little fishing port wrapped in flashy clothes. Its 20th century rise to fame gave it a high gloss polish, but deep inside, St Tropez remains a simple... Continue reading

It isn't just Cannes and the film festival that's spiffed about the current French Riviera weather. Being normally spoiled with fresh sunshine in May, we cannot believe the amount of water that's pouring down this week from our usually blue... Continue reading

Not sure if there will ever be an English edition... But I agree that it's wonderful to hear about the St Tropez's magic from someone who managed to capture it.

Hi, Not always. During periods of high fire risks (hot & windy), they do close all or parts of the Esterel for safety reasons. On those days, you wouldn't want to hike anyway. August is actually the most likely to see some closures as it's the warmest time. To check on Esterel status, you can contact the tourism office (phone: 04 94 19 52 52 - E-mail : information@saint-raphael.com) and see the map: http://www.visitvar.fr/provence-cote-azur/acces-massifs-forestiers.aspx My recommendation for August is to try the many coastal hikes so you can dip to cool off. I find it tough to get a ultra clear sky from La Turbie heading down. I usually get just enough fog to dampen the hike & view. Got to try it in September... Enjoy the Verdon! Cheers.

Verdon sure suffers from poor public transportation. The only bus line I know that heads from Nice to Castellane (LER) is the 21 Nice-Digne-Sisteron-Gap and I'm not sure that it runs frequently at all. Once dropped off in Castellane, you would need to be an avid hiker to loop around Verdon on foot (but a delighted avid hiker :) Another option is the tour bus. They abound during the summer. There's a herding feeling to that option that keeps me away from it, but it's option...

Hi, Flying on a personal private plane is more dangerous than other types of flying. And we see so many small planes buzzing above Monaco, Cannes, Fayence, and all of the French Riviera. Scary stuff. On the other hand, airliner flights are pretty safe, statistically speaking. Sad news for Callas regardless.
