The "no touching" rule makes me a little sad, BUT: I've only ever been to Blizzcon, and don't expect to have another con opportunity until my kids are grown; AND, I have a TERRIBLE cold right now, so I'm very sympathetic... I never want to touch people again!
Also, I have a few games I LOVE, but not sure if they're Tabletop worthy. "Zombies!!!" is a lot of fun, as are the expansion packs. "Robo Rally" is hilarious, but complicated.
What would be a lot of fun would be a "Retro Gaming" episode of table top... you could do "Hero Quest"!
Is it really only 2 days until GenCon? Yes. Yes it is.
On Wednesday, I'm heading to GenCon in Indianapolis. I had a great time when I was there before, and I'm looking forward to attending this year. Here's what you need to know, from GenCon: Wil will be signing autographs in the Autograph Area of the Exhibit Hall, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday mo...
Happy Birthday, Wil!
Happy Don't Be A Dick Day!
When I gave my 2007 PAX Prime Keynote, I said Arcades were more than just magnificent geek Shangri-Las, filled with all sorts of video games and pinball machines. They were a vital part of my generation’s social development. If I beat another kid in a two player game and taunted him mercilessly...
As an English major, I'm kind of ashamed to realize that I pronounce Gallant as "Gul- lont" in my head.
in which I am an indirect contributor to Highlights for Children
In february, I wrote about the time that Anne and I discussed Highlights for Children at great length: "You know what I always hated about Highlights?" Anne said, "some idiot kid had always circled the hidden pictures." "Seriously!" I said, "fuck that kid, man. That kid's a dick." "And what kin...
WOW! I had no idea that the folks at Highlights were so cool! but now that I think of it, I guess they have to be! (He said, suddenly realizing that the "highlight's" authors from his childhood were probably retired and long since replaced by folks his own age)
I also cursed the heavens when I found a filled out issue at the dentist... so much that my Mom finally ordered a subscription! The only trouble is that I'd play with the magazine instead of doing my homework.....

Jonathan swift would be proud! (That's a "Modest Proposal" reference)
My mother divorced my birth father when I was less then a year old, and married the man I would know as my father before I was 2. Even though we aren't genetically related, he will always be my "real" father, even though he and my mother divorced several years ago now.
I eventually met my birth father in my twenties, and the most surprising thing was not how alike we were, but how this man embodied all of my negative traits! Reflecting back, I realized that I had come further in my life with the same bag of troubles than my birth father had in twice the time, and it was mostly due to the man who raised me.
The things he taught me, and the love he showed me, helped me overcome many things. He'll always be my "real" Father, and I am thankful for him and all those people in the world who don't believe blood to be the only thing that defines family.
Good job Wil!
A troubling realization
This comes to us from my son, Ryan Wheaton. Click it to embiggen: Click to Embiggen Footnote: If there was any question that love -- not biology -- makes a family, look no further than my son's delightfully twisted sense of humor, which I think I helped foster.
that totally went into my bookmarks. Thanks Steve!
In which Anne and I make beer
I got into bed around 2300 last night. Anne followed a few minutes later, and was asleep a few minutes after that. I stayed awake reading until about 130, which is something I’ve been doing the last couple of weeks. I can’t fall asleep before 130, no matter how hard I try, so rather than fight i...
I'll definitely have to check that out. Thanks!

I've been struggling to find an activity that my wife and I enjoy... I guess that may have to wait till our kids are grown and gone! You lucky empty nester!
Also, here's a question I'm apparently far to lazy to look up... is there a non-alcoholic alternative to beer making?

Ok, I definitely want one.... But chances are it will be chewed on by my 6 month old at some point. Any chance it can double as a Baby chew toy without suffering any long term damage (to either the doll or your pride)?
This is a real thing that you can own
About a year ago, I dared my friend Joel to imagine what it would be like if he designed a little plushie Wil Wheaton, and this happened: After we stopped laughing about it, and enjoying how oh-so-clever we were, we started thinking about actually making it a real thing that someone could own,...
Wil, have you seen this yet? The fact is, if this happened, I would totally take your word for it!

Why are you saying it that way?
A laugh track/ dramatic score.
Things every person should have
Things every person should have: A nemesis. An evil twin. A secret headquarters. An escape hatch. A partner in crime. A secret identity. What else?
Thanks Wil.
I've been thinking about this all day, and you've captured how I feel exactly.
Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life
"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intu...
Congrats Wil!
I've only been reading for about a year, but I hope to be able to check in with you for years to come!
Also- Any chance of you talking Felecia Day into conning some Avengers news out of Joss? Maybe she can sneak you onto set so you can share some news with us! Sorry, I'm really excited... there's no way I'm making it to May!

So, while I'm putting together the last few things I need to take to PAX, I realized I forgot to mention something: ten years ago yesterday, I started my blog at WWdN*. Ten years ago today, Metafilter declared that it was "lame,"** and most of the Internet was really shitty to me about the whole...
Wil-
This post just made me realize just how many "jerk" roles you've played in the last couple years, especially given your motto (though admittedly, they're all awesome jerks)! Through you're blog, though, I've learned that you're an exceptionally nice guy.
Is it hard for you to do these roles that are so against your nature? Or do these roles allow you to free the "Jerk" every so often and let off some steam so you can be that nice guy the rest of the time?
io9 really liked Glimpse! Go Team Eureka!
Alisdair Wilkins at io9 really liked this week's episode of Eureka: "Glimpse" is my favorite episode of the still young season 4.5 - it had a great central threat, it did some nice, light work on the various relationships, it had some good jokes, and it gave plenty to do for the two main guest ...
I'm sorry, Will. That's a prime example of why people PISS me off. Typically, when I have run into a celebrity, I give them a wide birth and at most give a wave. I figure that I like being an anonymous person in public, everyone has the right to the same.
PS> I can totally see Felicia doing that! She is so cool and sweet. I met her at Blizzcon at the guild booth a couple years ago, and not only did she chat with me, take a picture AND make a video message for a friend, she later visited the blog I posted about it and left a super nice comment (basically "I'm sorry I don't specifically remember you, but I'm so glad you had a great time" but way more politically correct, lol). Anyway, if more people were like you a Felicia, I think the world would be a less annoying place. (that really is a compliment, lol)
if you cut me, i will bleed
Pretty much all of Comicon was awesome. However, there was one thing that was decidedly not awesome, and though I had initially decided not to talk about it in public, it's bothered me since it happened, so I wrote about it on G+ earlier today. I'm cross posting it here, though, because it's imp...
Very cool! You know, it's funny you picked now to start this up... There was a show on NPR just the other day about home brewing, and they actually explained the whole history and process. I think it was "all things considered" but I'm not sure... it's the show that's on right around 9:30-ish in the morning.
I would consider trying it, however, my son is only three, and I doubt the wife would approve of home brewing as a Father/Son activity.
As for names, how about a "Instant Courage Ale" (+20 to courage, and -10 to charisma)?
In which my son and I make our own beer
Ryan is going to be 22 at the end of the month. For those of you who have been here since I wrote the 13 on 31 post, you now know how I feel every single day. The rest of you can get off my lawn before I call your parents. So the other day, he and I were having a beer together, and Ryan said, "W...
