Whoever gets book #7 should give it to Jeri Ryan.
a very limited (I mean VERY limited) autographed book lottery
Yesterday, I said: I found nine hardback copies of The Happiest Days of Our Lives that I must have put there when they first arrived at my house a couple of years ago. They look as perfect as they did the day they were taken out of the box. So I have this idea to sell them, that goes like this:...
The story of Snow White like you never heard before.
merry smurfin' smurfmas, mothersmurfers
This is crying out for a caption. I'll choose my favorite, and send something neat* to whoever writes it. Submissions open throughout the weekend, one per person, and can only be left as comments here (it's too difficult to track on Twitter or via e-mail). *definition of 'neat' will be at my s...

In for one.
never forget your roots
While walking through Comicon three or four years ago, I stopped to look at one of those booths that's filled with a hundred different T-shirts. Somewhere among the various superhero crests and clever nerd phrases and obscure sci-fi homages, I saw a fairly simple design: an Atari joystick, sitti...
I am IN Chicago as I type. I CANNOT wait.
"In a lot of ways, for me, W00tstock felt like finally finding a home base."
When Paul and Storm and Adam Savage and I had our first conversations about what would become w00tstock, we knew that we wanted to put on an entertaining show for our fellow nerds that would be successful enough to warrant more than the three shows we originally planned. Sunday and Monday, we're...
Wow, that interview was hard to hear. Totally worth it though. Can't wait to see you in Chi-town.
Radio Free Burrito: Episode Twenty-Eight
Holy Crap, it's time for a new episode of Radio Free Burrito! Has it really been three weeks since the last show? I guess it has. Well, I brought a note that will hopefully excuse my absence... Show Notes: The logo was designed by WWdN:iX reader Marc, who asked that I not link to his "in progr...
I can't believe Molly's not going to be in the Chicago show. However, I am looking forward to failing my Save vs. Freakout when I get to meet you.
w00tstock 2.x is this weekend
Okay, how awesome is that poster? Rich Stevens designed it for us. A T-shirt version will be available at all the 2.x shows, until we sell out of them. So it turns out that w00tstock 2.x kicks off tomorrow with 2.0 in Seattle, and 2.1 on Saturday in Portland. I've been so busy with so many...
I too wore the shirt you designed. I played the Rogue. I hadn't had much experience with 4e, and wasn't told that thrown magic weapons automatically return until after I had charged the wyrm priest in a last ditch effort to shave off it's last 12 hp.
We lost, but it was a REALLY awesome epic battle.
Oh, and the awesomest part BY FAR, there was a 10-12 year old girl playing. It's great to see youngens getting into the hobby. It was also great to see the joy on her face each and every time she critted with her magic missle, 7 TIMES!
in which i find something unexpected during a Journey Through The Silver Caves
This weekend, I had a last-minute change in plans, and discovered that I had the free time to go play in World Wide D&D Game Day, which was set up by Wizards of the Coast to promote the release of the Monster Manual 2. I went to my friendly local game shop, where I was able to join a session tha...
I never had a fuck off bag. I would just stick troublesome d20s in the microwave for 3 seconds. If that didn't do the trick, then I'd get out the slingshot and send the little shit out the window. I'd make sure the other dice were watching, as a deterrent to misbehavior.

In for one. Woot. Nice design. I'll add it to the pile of things for you to sign if you ever make it out to the midwest (Chicago/Indy).
my design is available at shirt.woot!
So if you ever wanted to get a geeky shirt I designed for shirt.woot, now's your chance. I wanted to call it Critical Mass, because I thought that would be cool and work on a few geeky levels, but I think that idea fell through a hole in the 'tubes. I chose a d6 instead of a d10 because I thou...
How dare you say Wesley Crusher is a fictional character. He's going to use his traveler ability to go back in time and go all Captain Kirk on your arse. ;)
unintended consequences
Last night, I saw a column at Newsarama that infuriated me. It's been taken offline, so I can't quote it, but the basic premise was that Wesley Crusher was playing Ted Kord, so Ted Kord was a Redshirt, because Wesley was a Redshirt, so now you know how lame that episode is going to be ha ha ha. ...

Terra Haute, Indiana. You should be grateful there was no one around. If you went out cheering for Obama in Indiana, you'd be lucky to only get an earful of how wrong you are. I work in a hotel in Indiana. I had to wait 6 hours before I talked to someone who wasn't pissed about the outcome. This is the first year a democrat won Indiana since 1964. I'm was really happy that Obama won, but when the first thing you hear out of someone's mouth is "The KKK will fix this", you tend not to celebrate in unknown company.

I just called Ryan at school and told him to look around, because he'll want to remember where he was when Barack Obama was elected president. I'm too giddy and relieved for deep thoughts, and there's a bottle of champagne that Anne and I have been waiting to open for a long time, so I'll jus...

I'm proud to live in Indiana, currently 50% to 49% for Obama. I hope we end the night with Obama winning Indiana's popular vote, the first time for a democrat since 1964. McCain's hand/facing for his only four stops in our state versus Obama's 49. McCain's defeat means one thing, Global Thermal Nuclear War has been avoided yet again.

I can only read one book at a time. If the book is good, I immerse myself in the story. When I read two books at once, my mind starts introducing elements of one book into my mental image of the happinings in the other. Very confusing. I also tend to read in heavy spurts. I'll grab one book and finish it in a couple days, then take a week or two off.
I'm currently reading Order of the Stick: Start of Darkness.
BTW, I wish I was your son. You're a much better father than I had, and I admire you.
Q: What book are you currently reading? Is it good so far?
I don't do memes, because once I start, I doubt I'd be able to stop. That wouldn't end well for anyone, especially my cat who is bacon-averse. This morning, though, while I was Propelling, I stopped at SF Signal and saw Quick Meme: What are You Reading? Q: What book are you currently reading? I...

in which my brother wins a contest and i am proud of him
My brother is a hell of a photographer, and is on the verge of turning his hobby into something much, much more. He took this picture last year, and it instantly became one of my favorites. This morning, he told me that he'd recently entered it in a contest that had hundreds of other entries....
