Drew, thanks for sharing this list and showing how you use the tools. Having just come off of the 4th annual Bathroom Blogfest, which used Twitter more heavily than ever, some of these I've become aware of. But, many others not! Hope you had a good Halloween! CB
How to make time for social media: Twitter
As I traverse across the country talking about social media, whether it's with clients one-on-one or with conference attendees from a stage -- the "I don't have time" mantra is a common response to the conversation. I'm with you. I get the time crunch thing. I'm caught between that same rock...
A lovely and appropriate rant. I believe the practice has to do with agencies and clients both not understanding the new world order, being too much in love with shouting at customers and applying the same mindset to new social tools. Then, they can say "we've done social media!" Hah.
It truly is a whole other way of thinking and communicating, and it requires that those who 'get' it be constantly teaching and reinforcing the new ways.
It also requires that clients be eager to not simply hand-off brand building and relationship building to outside resources, but rather than they be intimately involved. That's a major mind shift from saying "make it so, agency!"
Lots of hand holding ahead, right?
Social media marketers are a shallow bunch
I'll warn you right now, this is a rant. And like all (good?) rants, it's kinda one-sided. So feel free to disagree. Feel free to prove me wrong... that's what comments are for. :-) Cholesterol-and-sodium mecca T.G.I. Friday's found themselves in the frying pan (if not the fire) this week for ...
Rich, thanks so much for helping get the word out, and also for participating in the series and the e-book. I hope many people benefit from the collective wisdom of experts like you. Best, CB

E-Book on Simplifying Social Media Marketing Based on Collective Wisdom
In March this year Christine B Whittemore (known to many as CB the Chief Simplifier) "interviewed" me on how we as small retailer in the floorcovering business use (and profit) from the new modern web marketing tools and strategies. If you have been reading/following my blog you know how much we...
David, you certainly hit on many of the 'dirty' secrets I'm grappling with. Thanks for encapsulating them so succinctly. Hope you're well. Best, CB
Social Media's Top 10 Dirty Little Secrets
Image uploaded by Stinky Pinkie on Flickr 1. Social climbers are attracted to social media That's right. The same people who climb their way up the social food chain in the real world tend to do well in the social media world. They'll be your friend for a while, until they find someone else wi...
Anna, thanks so very much for participating in and sharing your wonderful insights. Your point B above is one that I think of often now; it's so very appropriate! Can you tell that I loved being able to turn the tables on you? Best, CB

Congratulations, David! I can't imagine a better birthday present and celebration! Hurray!
The greatest birthday present
Today's post has nothing to do with "marketing, media or public relations," but it's all about "life." I usually don't make a fuss about my birthday, especially as the number gets bigger. I had a great day today, starting with a bunch of birthday messages by email, Facebook and Twitter, includi...
Valeria, fascinating post and thanks for connecting it to your interview on Flooring The Consumer.
This to me captures how marketing can create value moments: "...dedication, work that matters, trust and relationships rule. It doesn't stop there - it extends further into creating amazing experiences that become powerful reference points. That's where the value comes in. It's about them, not you. Yet, you do have the power to make that happen."
Thank you, Valeria.
Write the Headline from the Future
In the dot-com era, IBM had two big challenges: One, finding great talent (dot.coms were winning all the best Ph.D. researchers). And two, positioning itself as an Internet leader. CEO Lou Gerstner took on both challenges simultaneously with an event names Summer Jam - a worldwide jam session...
Rich, thank you for making the time to participate in my social media series despite your hectic schedule. I really appreciate it and also that you mention it here! Best, CB
Flooring the Consumer
I’ve been so busy these last two weeks that I’ve barely had time to blog. Hopefully that should change next week. So for today, I’m going to point to another blog, Flooring the Consumer by C. B. Whittemore. C.B. is highlighting a number of people in her social media series and yesterday she hig...
Paula, congratulations and best of luck. And, thank you for this thought-provoking and absolutely on target post. I enjoyed learning about what you've created at H&R Block through Francois' CMO 2.0 conversation and really look forward to hearing about your next chapter.

10 Tips for Social Media Marketers
There have been many chapters in the book of my life, some sad but most really happy. I’m now at the end of another chapter and it is bittersweet. I’m leaving H&R Block to become the General Manager of a new online shopping site that will be launching this fall. I’m excited to start this new ...
Susan, I can't thank you enough for profiling Flooring The Consumer on Customer Experience Crossroads, and doing so with such flair and in such depth. One other learning that just occurred to me is that you need to experiment with these tools long enough to 'relax' and not be so self-conscious while using them. In blogging, that corresponds to finding your voice. Again, thanks!
The social media paradox: you can put carpet on You Tube, but it will keep you busy
This is the third of a three-part interview with Christine Whittemore, creator of Flooring the Consumer, a trade blog in the carpet industry, and Carpetology, a consumer focused blog on everything carpet. Read part 1 here and part 2 here. Pushing further into social networks As Ms. Whitt...
Susan, again, thanks for how you tell this story.
Using social media: focus on the message, and bridge new and old
I've been very interested in marketer and author Christine Whittemore's approach to social media in the carpet industry, a space not necessarily well known for innovative marketing. She graciously agreed to answer some questions about the two business blogs she is now responsible for. In this s...
Susan, thank you so much for this opportunity to share what I have learned. I love how - through comments and photos - you have added so much dimension to my story.
Using social media in a traditional industry: Flooring the Consumer Blog
A lot of businesses still struggle with how to use social media effectively to communicate with their end consumers. They don’t see their company or their industry as high tech, or sexy, or particularly cutting edge – in short, they just don’t see the fit of social media for their situation. ...
Cam, the widget is fantastic! Thanks for getting the word out about AOC2! I agree with you. This one is definitely better from all aspects. I can't wait to get my copy and start diving in. I look forward to your chapter.
Age of Conversation 2: Don't Be The Only One Who Doesn't Get It
Age of Conversation 2: Why Don't They Get It? was officially released yesterday. I bought both a hardcover and an electronic copy, and from that purchase, $16.04 is being donated to Variety, the children's charity. But that's not why you should buy this book. Now, you know that as a contributi...
Cam, thanks for getting the word out. Hard to believe that we are on the home stretch and will soon be able to read all of these chapters in full!
Writing a Book With 236 of My Best Friends

Gavin, you and Drew have taken on another amazing yet Herculean task! Thank you for all that you do.

Brand & Customer Experience Gold - 36 Blogs That Make Customers Sing
In today's customer world, marketing is considerably more about "what you do" vs. "what you say you do". Whereas, the majority of ads get missed and 70% of the population would like to skip them completely, beyond-the-expected, customer service and branded customer experience has a profound ...

Best of the blogfest, or how to increase your traffic using a crazy topic
I've been away and chronically behind, and so missed reading many of the posts from other bloggers taking part in the bathroom blogfest 2007. Catching up today, I wanted to mention a couple of posts that caught my eye. As well as a few marketing observations. Interesting Posts - not an exhaust...
Oh, the fun we will have, Susan, changing the world next week!
Cleaning up the ladiesroom: 2007 bathroom blogfest runs Oct. 29 – Nov. 2
The bathroom blogfest was cooked up on a let's-get-acquainted phone call between me and San Diego blogger Stephanie Weaver (Experienceology) a little over a year ago. We wanted a blogfest topic that related to customer experience but not in a specialized way … we tagged it ladiesrooms. I don't ...
Greg, what a fun way to handle time with the Mouse. The guys are doing good work. You can relax!

Mickey, Doug, Ryan, Jonathan and Matt. But, for the first time since I launched this blog, no Greg. "No Greg" is the easy part -- I'm with the family at Disney World this week (which covers off on Mickey as well) and rather than having my blog go dark for a week or spending my "time off" onlin...

Greg, I love your daughter's active involvement with George and AoC. Mine wasn't too thrilled to see him being sent off to have more fun without her - but she does feel better about it seeing yours. Glad that George still seems to have his copy of AoC!
