Too bad you hadn't read this article first: http://anxietywrapsays.blogspot.com/2012/02/comparison-of-anxiety-wrap-thundershirt.html Don't be duped again - try the original pressure wrap, The Anxiety Wrap, invented in 2001 by Certified Professional Dog Trainer and T-Touch Practitioner, Susan Sharpe. It is not only the original, but it is the only patented pressure wrap (The Storm Defender is patented but it is not a pressure wrap.) The Anxiety Wrap is also the only pressure wrap that uses both maintained (constant) pressure and acupressure to achieve its calming effect. The Thundershirt is not patented; it is a knockoff, and the Storm Defender does not work to eliminate the static effect. Read the article above which will point you to the research. The Anxiety Wrap is also the only pressure wrap that has been tested in a clinical research study. In a recent study completed by veterinarian, Dr. Nicholas Dodman at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine The Anxiety Wrap was found to be effective in 89% of the dogs int he study and the researchers concluded that The Anxiety Wrap is a "safe and effective treatment for thunderstorm phobia." The inventor of the original pressure wrap, Susan Sharpe experimented with over 90 different prototypes before coming up with her patented design. The Anxiety Wrap is a well made product and very effective product and I wouldn't recommend it if it wasn't. I first used The Anxiety Wrap on my own dog several years ago and was so impressed that I have been recommending it to my clients with fearful and anxious dogs ever since. I have never seen it not work, and I have used it not only for thunderstorm phobia, but also for severe separation anxiety and other forms of anxiety. A commenter above recommended the calming pheromones - that would be like D.A.P.m dog appeasing pheromone. I have not seen these products to do a lot. They calm a little, but not a lot. Also, you might want to check into the Through A Dog's Ear sound recording series. I have used the music CDs and they are calming. I received a copy of a the thunderstorm recording and gave it to a client of mine but I don't think she ever tried it because The Anxiety Wrap worked so well! Her service) dog slept through the storm! Cindy Ludwig, M.A., KPA-CTP Owner, Canine Connection LLC Dubuque, Iowa
