Anyone else receive the Signing Day Celebration invitation? I reveived an email from the AD office saying that we should join Pete and Solid Gold and then Club Rolexx for parties. Anyone want to join us? Pete is offering free table dances tonight. Just don't Twitter the information out there. I am game to have fun with Garcia, Maury, Rosenberg and others.
Sorry about Popovich. He got the shaft from Turner. Won't sit well with the players. Handle poorly by the coach...played a good guy...what goes around will come around quickly
2013 Signing Day for football, soccer, track; Popovich fired
The first day of the signing period rained down news in the manner of punches in a Sugar Ray Leonard finishing flurry. FIU signed 18 players, 17 of them from Florida. Only Oceanside (Cal.) quarterback Israel "Tofi" Paopao's parents get to kvetch about state income tax. Anyway, on to the recruit...
Yah! Leon signed!!!
I knew that Coach would land him.

8:11: Turner receives fax from Juan Goldberg, drive-thru window worker at McDonald's across from campus. Was recruited by Turner when coach was picking up Egg McMuffin last week; coach noticed large body and good hands; heck, no need to recruit when stars are next to campus!!
8:14: Mary MacAfee sends letter to coach with lipstick mark next to signature. Is excited about opportunity to kick football. Coach got idea from movie with Scott Bakula and Kathy Ireland. It worked in the movies. Bet it add some bodies to the seats in the stadium.

8:00: Turner drinks second gin and tonic and plans golf outing for this afternoon; no need to recruit...leaving this up to his flunkies just as Don Strock did
8:01: Pete Garcia rolls over in bed and hits snooze button...no need to get to office before 11 a.m...why change routine today? Kisses cheek of 275-pound African-American adult entertainer and wishes her a good day

Why is Turner passing the buck on the issue with the recruits and strip clubs? My read of David Neal's article is that Turner is saying he left things to Cristobal's holdover coaches, and they screwed up. This is not the sign of a leader. You are the head guy, Turner. You have been for many weeks. It is your responsibility to know the ins and outs of your program and to take responsibility. Don't call out guys as Cristobal's. Why did Butkus leave quickly? Because you are a lousy college coach who has no recent experience in building winning programs. It is hard work, and recruiting is a main part.
2013 FIU football schedule
Now that Conference USA got everybody organized, slotted, home dates figured out... Aug. 31: at Maryland Sept. 7: vs. UCF Sept. 14: vs. Bethune-Cookman Sept. 21: at Louisville Oct. 5: at Southern Mississippi Oct. 12: vs. Alabama-Birmingham Oct. 26: vs. Louisiana Tech Nov. 2: vs. East Carolina No...
Guys: FIU's Pete Garcia is a fan of strippers. He has set a poor example. How about Butkus. He flew the coop for an assistant line coaching post in the NFl, not the line coach spot. We hear that Mirabal ended up at another NCAA program. David Neal: Any news on this? How about a rundown of where the other coaches have ended up?
At the club...and commits
Class, today we're going to cover some basics of college athletics. 1. When in the process of recruiting for a Division I school and the other D1/FBS school in town is under NCAA investigation for improper recruiting practices, among other things, DO NOT TAKE THE RECRUIT TO THE STRIP CLUB!...
Is da Prez that clueless to say Cristobal was booted because of poor attendance? So Pitino has to worry, too? Where is Garcia and his sports marketing staff? FIU GOT SOME BIG PROBLEMS.
Regarding the players, they lost Cristobal and their position coaches. A lineman told me that Mirabal was special and Butkus having a hard time relating to the Florida kids. That Mirabal was a tough guy in a small body. The other coach them kids loved was Ponce. He's been around Miami for many years coaching high school. Kids knew him from those days. Now that Turner threw out some good Miami connected coaches. This makes no sense.
Cleaning up from Thursday at The Branch
An actual crowd filled the lower bowl of U.S. Century Bank Arena for Thursday's men's basketball game against North Texas. The official attendance was 1,109. I guess free pizza made free admission look extra attractive. If that wouldn't have worked, the next stop is free beer and singing frogs. ...
You want the truth, FIU fans? You really want the truth? YOU CAN''T HANDLE THE TRUTH.
David Neal asks: Maury, did you order the Code Red on Cristobal?
You are damn right I ordered the Code Red. I would do it again. Do you know what it's like to have tens of thousands of pretty young coeds ready to shoot glances at you from a couple hundred yards? Do you? And to have Cristobal run them out because he says he's got ethics?
Kamika Idom out indefinitely; I wasn't escorted anywhere
Sophomore guard Kamika Idom, FIU's first off the bench, is out indefinitely with a knee injury. FIU could've used her in Thursday's 70-68 loss to North Texas. The Panthers looked ponderous against backcourt pressure applied by a small and not very quick lineup. BAD RUMORS Nobody escorted me off ...
They took a brotha's chair? What they scared of David? Careful with the word "escort." Might make Pete and the chairman Maury nervous...

Soccer signings; football staff turnover
FIU men's soccer officially signed Boca Raton High midfielder Nico Midttun, who played club soccer with Weston FC, and German backliner Marvin Hezel this weekend. Midttun committed to FIU last summer. A four-time All-State selection at Boca, he also played in his native Ecuador during summers an...
Any blog about FIU sports gonna be negative. Can that Garcia and we got good news!
Fallen Idom?
Guard Kamika Idom got her fifth start of the season and played 31 minutes in Saturday's 55-53 win at Arkansas-Little Rock. But, Monday, Idom, sixth on the Panthers in playing time (18:42 per game) and second to Jerica Coley in steals (20), was walking around with a leg brace consuming her entire...
Coach aint never coming back to this dump. He is the lucky one. No y'all gotta live with a crappy football team thanks to a dumb-ass AD, a coach who don't fit and a bunch of assistants who cant keep the locals at FIU. What is this about hiring someone tied to Nevin Shapiro? Are you making some jokes?
Chandler Burkett swings from FIU to Maryland
Panama City Bozeman Defensive end Chandler Burkett has swung his commitment from FIU to Maryland, according to David Jenkins, president of Bozeman Football Booster Club and a coach at Bozeman. The rangy 6-4 Burkett, a July commit to FIU, is rated at two stars by Rivals and three stars by Scout, ...
hey David:
Is the story for real that Turner is talking to NFL teams about openings? Preparing to fly the coop soon after realizing the cat puke in which he stepped?
Help a brotha out. If this is real, somebody named Garcia got a whole lot of splaining to do.
He already got a fire burning about this meesy hire. Fans are just mad. The recent staff hires are about friends of his. Maybe he realizing that it's better in the NFL
Back in the game (sort of); Patterson as asst. head coach, Conlkin as DC
Felt like kitty barf most of Friday, which is why there was no blog post. Now feeling like cleaned up kitty barf... Ron Turner went for Josh Conklin, Tennessee safeties coach, as defensive coordinator over former Texas-El Paso defensive coordinator Andre Patterson, who'll be assistant head coach...
BREAKING NEWS????
Turner has put out feelers to NFL teams about open positions. That's the buzz I hearing. One source said she heard him contact his brother about a position.
David: Is this for real? Could y'all have a house of cards that be tumbling down? My lady friend in the department said the coach is angry over the negative feelings he's getting down here. I guess us folks are part of the picture. And we ain't alone. Old Turner has been
blasted by the media and the fans. He was miffed that the president didn't even show up for his introduction because of the issues surrounding Garcia and Maury.
Help, David, help! Find out the story for us.
Back to UM for Cristobal
Sources close to former FIU coach Mario Cristobal, a former University of Miami player, graduate assistant and assistant coach, say he's not officially a University of Miami assistantagain yet, but will be soon, probably by the end of the day. Now, the question becomes: what sanctions will the N...
UM wins, brothers. FIU loses. Ya'll get a retread at coach, a retard at AD, a bunch of connected assistants with no ties in our state and....a return to the Don Strock era of problems with grades, scholarships and a whole bunch of losses. Turner will last for one or two seasons.

Butkus was fired by Illinois. That's the word among coaches. FIUBLUE1 is right on with the stats. So FIU gets an unproductive OL coach with no recruiting ties to South Florida. This is just stupid. Mirabal made champions out of his linemen. Unlikely fat ass Butkus will make the grade down here with these kids. Just aint gonna happen.
Goings and Comings
As the FIU football staff turns... Sacked (so far): Tim Cramsey, offensive coordinator; Todd Orlando, defensive coordinator; Alex Mirabal, assistant head coach, offensive line; Frank Ponce, wide receivers; and Dan Hernandez, graduate assistant, offense. Edwin Pierre-Pata, graduate assistant, def...
It means that FIU can keep some money for Garcia and Maury's use at strip clubs throughout South Florida and Nevada. This is a great day for FIU football. Don Strock and his new golfing buddy Ron Turner are laughing at how they've taken money from the school for easy times down here.

Pike: You ever coach or play? I doubt it. FIU returns to bush-league football status. Don Strock and Ron Turner can play golf together. Pete Garcia and Al Maury will serve as their caddies. Rosenberg was seen threatening to jump from the third floor of a Leon Medical Center building. "What did I do. What did I do. Please forgive me."

Congratulations to Mario for becoming the No, 2 guy at the best program in South Florida. He and Al Golden along with the other coaches will put a big damper on FIU's local recruiting efforts. Gee? Do I choose the U or the FIU to play ball? Do I choose to go to tradition and learn from the dedicated up and coming coaches or do I sign up for a ride with a known lazy NFL and NCAA failure who aint never come around our hood? Good night, FIU. Good bye to your run in landing good recruits. Y'all gonna be viewed as a choice for kids who can't go to major programs. Contender? Not a chance. Garcia should lose his job immediately over this mess he created. He set back the program by a decade!

No assistants have been terminated, yet, according to my source inside the department. The word is all about Turner interviewing coaches and asking if they're on his team or not. This is a poor way to treat young coaches who have worked for peanuts. Mirabal was the highest paid assistant and he barely earned over 100k a year. Most of the assistants earned between 50k and 80k. That's chump change. Assistants at major schools and the NFL earn a lot more than this for less work. Get real, y'all. Aint going to see top-notch assistants coaching our players unless we take some of Garcia's salary and spread it around. This clown has no business earning more than ADs at major programs. His pay is way out of whack with what the department brings in. And who ever heard of a title like his?? Anyone? Sports and entertainment...since when is a state school about making money from entertainment. Keep blasting Cristobal. Call him a bad coach. Maybe even a lousy recruiter. You are dead wrong. He brought kids to the FI-U through his gift of talk and spirit and honesty. He built a winning team with poorly paid assistants who stayed out of loyalty to him or joined because of his energy. I would let my kids play for him anyday, anywhere. Old Ron Turner ain't been down here except for vacation. Come to my house in the hood and we'll throw his fat ass out. Cristobal came to speak with our neighborhood kids. He told em about what it's like to win. And he did win. He could have put on a helmet and knocked the crap out of most players half his age. God bless him, his assistants and the FIU athletes he helped. T.Y. will eat dirt for that man. He gave T.Y. opportunities on and off the field to be a better kid. Amen, brothers. Amen.
