I think you missed the point about "promoted." By using the word "promoted" instead of "advertising," you're trying to make it seem like it's not advertising. You see, "promoted" could mean lots of things besides "they paid us to put them high on the list." Sure, the folks that read your beta announcements know that you're using that particular form of newspeak, but that's certainly not everyone.
