I think I have ranted on this subject before. My son doesn't get playdates. We were wondering if it was him. Was he so unliked by either peers or parents that they swore to never let their children play with him. But he was getting invited to the odd birthday party and we noticed that some GIRLS were more than happy to come to our house after school or invite him to theirs. But no boys. Not in preschool, kindergarten, Grade one or Grade two. Birthday Parties were so so in attendance. Usually though more girls than boys. If we... Continue reading

We rent because we can't afford to buy. We do LOW rent because we are a sing income family and on the LOW end of the scale. We live where we do also due to the schools etc. I don't think any of my neighbours want to be in a condo downtown. And yes..I would be happy if my taxes went to affordable housing in this city. Affordable housing should be all types for all and not focused in any one area. And yes there should be more encouragement to develop transit and work scattered around the town so people are not focusing on the freeway etc. But the way Vancouver focuses just on development of real estate and really nothing else...

I know..I realize many people LOVE Vancouver..but that love seems to exist for teeny tiny area around the west side and the downtown core. Everyone forgets about the rest of Vancouver and the people trying to live and work there. Not everyone lives in the 'cool' parts or can afford to rent or own. Nor is the infrastructure there to make it worth it.

Oh man...the never ending battle...what I find (sadly) is that teachers tend to be surprised when parents DO speak up and fight for their kids...I have talked to teachers, principals, resource teachers etc...and FOUGHT to be polite...WE know our kids best. WE know that school is a system and that kids who don't fit the parameters get screwed..WE have to fight for that..for our kids individuality... Don't give up...

our school doesn't do afterschool care for kindergarteners, so that ads pressure to parents too.

I sound like a broken record on this subject, but I really don't get it. Places like the UK and I think Australia don't have kindergarten...at age 5 you go into FULL day Grade one...WELCOME TO SCHOOL! I don't think I have read blogs or heard from my UK family about any angst about sending their kids to this. I think if the curriculum is done right..it can be a fun and educational day for 5 year olds and they SHOULD be able to handle it. I think we don't give our kids enough credit. And yeah...the hell most of the families in my kids K class go through arranging pick ups and day care is insane. I just have inconvenience as SAHM..I just hate having to bundle up the baby twice for TWO pick up times for my son and daughter. I am also fed up hearing about kids that still need naps etc...NO..they shouldn't. Why??? I think my kids stopped napping seriously around 3! Done right...there should be no problem with this. But the key is how organized and jigged around it will be.

the IOC is one of the most corrupt organizations comprising of in the clouds wealth and connections that we will never understand. There is little there to do with bringing people together unless it is to make money for them.

Our children have had the misfortune of being born to movie freaks and comic collectors. They have seen all the superhero films..cept for the 'new' batman movies...way to dark and non kid like. They play the Lego Batman video game too. We have also got them watching the 'oldskool' transformer cartoons which my son like a lot...he has a BUCKET of transformers which is probably really the only 'superhero' type toys though...that isn't Japanese as he is HUGE into Bakugans etc. The no superhero thing probably also stems from the consumer culture that is so many toys these days....all shows pushing products etc...which I do dislike, but however enjoy the social aspect now of the toys as my son trades and plays Chaotic, Pokemon etc. But again..to each their own. I also think I would rather have my kid like the traditional superhero as a role model instead of a steroid ridden athlete.

My husband works his ass off so I can stay home..however when he is home is is dad all the day long. He was also a work from home dad too...so he has been part of his kids lives from the start..he parents because he remembers his dad NOT parenting that way. It is mostly a generational thing I think...and probably culture too. The balance of parenting has shifted a great deal.

Harrison Ford say 'wife' the best in quite a few movies..he puts a lot in it...and yeah....that is the sort of 'wife' we all want to be..well not missing..but you get my point. Yeah..I like when I hear my husband introduce me as his wife, Kerry. Still gives me a chill...must be an old fashioned gal after all!

I have mega night owls as kids so late is NOTHING to them..however the getting up now for school is PAINFUL as they just cannot get themselves to sleep at a decent hour. We too have enjoyed the late nights here over the holidays..I am sad to be back to the routine!

I have found that thought pricey, I do enjoy making my photo cards to send out..and people seem to really like them so it is worth the effort. I also do a year in the life of the sauriols calendar for family overseas and grandparents..that has been a huge hit over the years.

I know..it beggars thought really. I was just sitting here thinking of all the things we have to explain to kids nowadays... And there is my eldest daughter (5) sitting there telling the baby about what Remembrance Day is...about it being for the dead soldiers...how sad is that. And how do explain shooting rampages and mental illness and anguish and so on..

and why I am glad to pay for the hot lunch program at our school. The woman who runs it is FANATICAL that it is all balanced and healthy and she loves to encourage the picky eaters like my son. I love it because he tries stuff he wouldn't with me and even if he has a few bites..it is something nutritious... I hate trying to make lunches for him anyway!!!

It is really tough. My doc recommends we all get it since we have a baby at home. I don't even get flu shots though so it is making me nuts. I keep NOT booking ap for the family as I am getting myself in a total knot about it. Safety, fear, paranoia..or just chill out and ignore it all!!!???

The only one I am worried about is T. I don't want a tiny baby getting really sick. I am sick right now and so she will no doubt get whatever I have from me. I am just not happy about all the confusion about the vaccines.... and like others..was sickest the year I did get the flu shot

But you do realize it is marketing. You will be there to learn what they want you to learn. It is what keeps you AS a consumer. That is how marketing works. But like anything..we all should learn to 'read the labels'..and find out things for ourselves without a PR person to make us feel like a community...

I swear I cannot let my children watch the news..because at 7 and 5 I had to explain the plants...and why the cool hidden elevator was not 'cool' and the people were baaaad. And why the plants may not be 'bad' but people do bad things over them but you really shouldn't grow em with your tomatoes either.
