The problem with news organizations is they think that they're huge, and what they do affect their businesses hugely and directly. They're right! I know from the experience in eBay Turkey (I'm currently working as a business development manager in eBay Turkey) that what's done online or offline, like advertisement, new services, new offers affect sales directly in a few days. Fear is the main reason news industry suffering. Status quo is not easy to loose, especially if you're very big. On the other hand, while resisting to change, some coming from no where, are changing the industry. You know these companies: twitter, friendfeed and the others. Although they haven't replaced the traditional media, they're complementing and even adding more value to news in lots of areas. One of them is of course, real-time news.
