It has been ridiculously cold in these parts.-50 windchills. Yeah,as one of my fellow Regional BF's said,"People this is what makes us who we (Minnesotans) are!" So, I am not complaining and just bundling the eff up:) Hence the serious frozen selfies, I promise I will leave the post with a smile, frigid one at that:) You might be wondering why am in my old blog home after all these years... Ok only three years, but in the blog world that is a eternity. Blog readership killer to the say the least. Back in 2011, when I posted last here.... Continue reading

So, adored this honest post about what is really going on in life. Inspiring moi to do a quick authentic update as well. Since I have been absent from the on-line world and all. Time Flies... Ahmed has been getting ready for his adventure back home to Egypt. Wow, what a process that is to be gone for over a month. Getting his US passport, making sure all the bills are in order while he is gone. Getting him ready for that long flight. Buying oodles of gifts for his family and friends. A lot of Shampoo and make-up goodies.... Continue reading

I know. I know. The Help. It is all the literary/film rage right now. But, I am so jumping blissfully on the bandwagon as well. I am on page 254 right now and loving each one. And can't wait to finish the book, so I then go to the movie. Since reading Gone with the Wind as a kid after watching the Movie. I will never again do that. Books deserve that vivid imagination play on the page first before seeing the film:) Have you read it? Growing up in the South and my own Mom being The Help to... Continue reading

Ah the beautiful honesty I love about you!!! Wonderful post about the process and how it never truly ends. I think you are beautiful Dear Cathy Z. and what you have accomplished is more than being skinny:) (Hey I think you look fabulous!!!! You ooze health!!!! Love it!!!!) I have reading your journey from day 1 and the impact you have made on so many! Including myself to get moving and eating healthy. On June 3rd I began after a lot of emotional work. Using your tracker daily. Beginning slowly. having a lot of little tantrums along the first months way. Pushing through... yesterday I hit the 50lbs milestone lost. I took my first before and in process pictures! Wowsers. http://cynthiafriesehassanein.typepad.com/storyboardc/2011/09/ignitelovec_minus50.html It was not easy. No quick fixes. Trying new things. The number on the scale is wonderful. But, the true gift to myself has been gaining energy, stamina, the love of exercise again. The realization that this is a new way of living for me. Yes, there are those days.... but I am learning to accept that it is O.K. to have off days. Cathy so proud of you!!!! Keep discovering being healthy and know I am glad you share it with us readers. What impact you are making through your example!!!

In honor of losing 50 lbs. I thought I would share a little before and in the process:) photos. I was inspired by one of my besties Amy over the last weekend. We had a conversation about if she had noticed any changes. I of course notice in how my clothes are becoming looser. But, also I look at myself everyday as Amy sees me very frequently. So, It is hard to tell. We kind of shrugged our shoulders and went onto the next topic of conversation. Then on Sunday I thought what the heck might as well take a... Continue reading

Most people my age would know her by her sunglasses or maybe the pink suit or the pill box hats there moms might of told them about. "She was a first lady during that Mad Men Show era right?" In a modern world where reality shows rule and discretion is old fashion. Someone like Jacqueline Kennedy is a foreign entity. She never spoke in life publicly about the intimate details of her life and her remarkable moments as First Lady until now. This coming Tuesday on ABC, Diane Sawyer anchor's a 2 hour special with a glimpse into the official... Continue reading

I had one of those moments yesterday. The sun was setting. The trees were aglow with that Autumn light. Nostalgia enveloped me as I looked up and snapped this above Instagram. Then last night I came home to a quiet apartment. Ahmed was still at his friends house and the cool breeze was coming in through the open windows. Fall is previewing here this labor day weekend big time. So, I curled up in bed and even put on my favorite warm blanket with the satin trim over atop our down feather comforter and slipped into to bed to re-read... Continue reading

Now in it's 8th issue. Matchbook Magazine again has charmed my socks off. This issue alone with it's Grace Kelly Style tribute and modern take for today's Match Girl oozed perfection. I know the next statement I will say is kind brazen and bold but I am going to say it nonetheless. It is a classic in the making!!!! The Vogue for Classic girls of all ages. Move over Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and Elle. There is a new sister in town and stealing your thunder big time. My only complaint it is not in Print. So, I could post-it and... Continue reading

I truly can not believe that I have officially been on this health journey for now 3 months. It has gone by so quickly and so much to be grateful for to say the least! ~Thursday I recieved all the results from my most recent check-up and blood work. Let's just say it is mind blowing what healthy eating, regular exercise and weight loss can do. Not to bore you with the numbers and I won't. But, the significant change so impressed my Doctor:) and blew me away!!!! Power of positive lifestyle and being diligent about taking my Meds. And... Continue reading

Well, my fine friends:) This last week has been a busy one. Planning Ahmed's Trip to visit his beloved home country of Egypt and my going to St. Pauls Como Zoo and conservatory for the first time ever. Oh it was just about the most delightful thing I have done in a long time. Wow, did I feel like a kid again. gawking at all the animals. It so reminded me of my parents taking me to the Memphis zoo as a kid. So, here is my little Journey in Instagram for your viewing or bored to death pleasure. ***Thank... Continue reading

Last week I went with my friend to her local Public Library and spent a enjoyable afternoon reading magazines including Smithsonian Magazine that featured Southern Mid-Cenury Color photographer William Eggleston. 1. His above Memphis Tricycle image hit right in the heart. Loved the view and solidarity of this well beat up/ much loved little boy's tricyle from the ground view up. It reminded me of my own early formative years in Memphis and our house. I adore his own description, "Sometimes I like the idea of making a picture that does not look like a human picture. Humans make pictures... Continue reading

Yes, look at that Autumn light I captured late last week in my neighborhood. Even a few trees are changing. It is a little bitter sweet though and this morning while I was laying in bed waiting for my iphones bell tower wake up call. I noticed the morning light having that nostalgic feeling ten folds. Soon school will be starting. Pumpkin Spice lattes will be served at Starbucks again. Getting my drift fall is around the bend... I am excited but a little sad. This summer I really fell in love with and hate to see it go so... Continue reading

I know the preppy chic can be smelled from miles away..... "Bless her heart" (insert southern drawl). This C. girl loves herself some prep indeed. Where does it derive from anyhow? My upbringing down south did not help the obsession one bit I am sure or a Momma that can matchy match and accessorize like it is know bodies business. There is just this part myself deep down inside that craves casual southern chic. Bold Prints and colors in a classic silhouette. I try to find balance residing in the mostly casual land of 10,000 lakes. But, the warmer weather... Continue reading

O.K....so, last week I found out I did not get the job I was beyond confident I was going to get. Now to make a not so long story shorter- I am beyond sick of applying for jobs with the attitude to just pay the bills and do my WORK time. So, I can REALLY come home do what I am beyond head over heels in love with design and writing. Yesterday talking with a good friend who has connections. We got on the subject of my chicken shit attitude about submitting my portfolio (this blog is my portfolio) to... Continue reading

I have recently rediscovered the joy of Swimming at my local YMCA. Bringing back such fond memories of my love for it as a kid. I remember when my family first moved from Memphis to Tallahassee, Florida for my Dad's Job with the Federal Prison System in 1980. We lived at the Days Inn on the corner of Apalachee Parkway and Capital Circle for a couple of Months while my parents house hunted. One of my favorite things to do besides following around my favorite housekeeping lady around was going swimming at the crack of dawn. I am not kidding,... Continue reading

Chasing Rainbows. I know it might sound a little ridiculous. But, the other night my dear friend Amy and I were heading out to her home in rural southern Minnesota to pick up some extra things for her daughters sleep over. As usual we were having a pretty intense conversation. We have a lot of those despite how much fun we have as well. But, right out of know where on beautiful summer evening. There was a rainbow to break the intensity into some ordinary wonderment. It stopped us both in our tracks and we decided to find the best... Continue reading

I am thrilled for some mid-century inspired fall fashion and programming showcasing the glory days of the Jet-setting era. This September on... ABC via Pan Am. Ah I remember the first time I flew with my Mom to Minnesota from our home in Memphis Tenn. back then. I must of been five at the time. The preparation alone for the flight was exciting. New outfits and shoes of course to put our best foot forward in flight. My Mom who grew up in the jet age still had the idea that flying was the ultimate luxury and adventure. I remember... I am so excited for the August release of Banana Republic's Design Collaboration with Mad Men and it's delightfully charming Costume Designer Janie Bryant. What I have seen thus far has been drool worthy! My Mid-century design loving heart is palpitating fast:) I love it's vintage feel without being Retro Rediculous. It's classic to say the least with major attention to detail even for the Men. Screaming Please Gentlemen wear suits again!!!! Here is the full collection via New York Magazine. Seriously a much needed fix after the long wait for Mad Men's season 5 coming in Jan. 2012. Enjoy!... Continue reading

The first time I saw Stella & Dot's defining Statement piece for the FALL collection- The Pegasus Necklace. I thought instantly of Gywneth Paltrow. It's so bold yet simple. A striking bib of intricate gold feathers hand sewn to silk organza cascade. Made entirely by hand in India. It has a pretty price of $198.00. One thing I adore about Stella & Dot is the opprotunity to get statement pieces like this complimentary with hosting a Trunk Show of 1000.00 or more. I know that sounds steep, but most shows Hostesses earn that easily with 10 or more guests. This... Continue reading

Happy Sunday! I thought my first "official" post would be about a topic close to my heart! The Rosary. One of my first memories was sitting next to my Mother at St. Anne's Parish in Memphis, Tenn. while her fingers ran over her beautiful "necklace" of beads quietly mumbling the same words over and over again. There was great comfort in those quiet moments in church by my Mother's side. Long before I knew the prayers myself and my own deep love for the Rosary. She gave me such a gift... A gift that would bring me back to my... Continue reading

I have been wanting to create this kind of post series since I began blogging in 2007. A reminder that being Catholic is Cool, Classic and Chic! Our Faith in God truly never goes out of style- It is Timeless. So, In a modern world where reality stars seem to "rule" and faith has taken a back seat to many. I thought this would be a perfect time to begin Catholic Girl ~... Continue reading
