Life as a 40, oops 50-something--- juggling work, life, children and a great husband who is a stay-at-home-work-your-head-off Dad and living with cancer, and all the various challenges and joys of life as we live it....
Interests: in no particular order: americana music, gardening, my family, cooking (not baking), old buildings (I tend to like them best before they're restored even though I'm all for historic preservation), antiques...mostly 19th century american, reading (sometimes respectable stuff and sometimes anything set in regency england), roadside architecture, mid-19th century american glass, old roads, hosting parties and house concerts in our slightly ramshackle house, laughing at my boys, admiring my boys, missing those I've lost, loving those I have.

My Aunt died this week. I hadn't been in touch with her since my parents passed, probably. To my understanding, she had dementia and was in a nursing home. She was the youngest of my father's siblings. I think he... Continue reading

On Facebook today we had some conversation about what to call Owen's habitat that he has created in the garage. I referred to it as the Teen Cave but Peggy pointed out 'enough with the cave,' and I totally agree,... Continue reading

Remember my Seven Hour Lamb I was so excited about? I hated it. I threw it out. I love lamb but this was strong and gamey and nasty. Sniff, sniff. I had such high hopes. The only bright spot? I... Continue reading

Owen's trying to get us out of the house. First thing he said after breakfast was, "So, what are you going to do today?" I just blinked at him because it seemed pretty clear to me that I was doing... Continue reading

So it appears to be another quiet weekend finding myself slightly under the weather. At some point something's going to have to blow after all this downtime, but right now nothing is blowing, other than my nose. I spent most... Continue reading

1. I had a bit of a cold after Christmas, but not too bad, and then a bug of some kind over New Year's but overall I've been feeling a lot healthier and stronger. Of course, the night after we... Continue reading

Yesterday Ernie called the vet and got some nausea medication for Annie to see if that would get her to eat. Owen got the pill down her no problem, he's got the touch. It didn't help though. She lost all... Continue reading

I did something really bold last weekend. I did nothing. I don't know why I feel the need to hunker down so. Usually I feel that if I don't do something to 'mark' the weekend that I have lost it.... Continue reading

Ernie is making it a personal challenge to open canned food for Annie without Rascal hearing. I think if he manages this it will be a pyrrhic victory, but we shall see. He said that yesterday morning Annie was curled... Continue reading

I'm sitting here googling 'when to put your cat to sleep?' My poor Annie. She still seems perky enough. She eats cheerfully, although not huge amounts. She is up and around but spends most of her time in her little... Continue reading

I can't say I welcomed in 2018 as I would have wished. I had a hard time waking up yesterday and when I finally made it downstairs I realized I wasn't feeling quite right. I spent the day on the... Continue reading

Our old uninsulated house is not the toastiest in this weather. The media room, in particular, is freezing, as it's an old porch with three exterior walls and an uninsulated crawl space. Normally the media room is Annie's domain. She... Continue reading

Things are not looking so good for my little Annie. We took her to see Dr. Mary yesterday and, as we expected, the news was not good. I'd seen Mary at our Peter Case show and we'd chatted about Annie... Continue reading

Christmas squalor is a Sasha Rubel coined term and so appropriate. Even with the smaller number of presents this year we still managed to destroy the living room. Evidently the boys are officially old now, as it's the first year... Continue reading

1. Did somebody stuff blue money (Esquire gift certicates) in my coat pocket? Because they're dated from April and I can't believe they've been sitting in there since then and I hadn't noticed them. Perfect timing though. Woo-hooo! 2. We're... Continue reading

I'm still glowing too much from last night's Taxi Boys' show to write about it yet, so I will confine myself to the Quinoa Salmon Patties, per Peter Cooper's request. Next time Peter! Owen turned his nose up when I... Continue reading
