Life as a 40, oops 50-something--- juggling work, life, children and a great husband who is a stay-at-home-work-your-head-off Dad and living with cancer, and all the various challenges and joys of life as we live it....
Interests: in no particular order: americana music, gardening, my family, cooking (not baking), old buildings (I tend to like them best before they're restored even though I'm all for historic preservation), antiques...mostly 19th century american, reading (sometimes respectable stuff and sometimes anything set in regency england), roadside architecture, mid-19th century american glass, old roads, hosting parties and house concerts in our slightly ramshackle house, laughing at my boys, admiring my boys, missing those I've lost, loving those I have.

Man, I had kind of a crappy day yesterday and got home in a foul mood. We were supposed to go to the panel discussion at the library about John Isberg's local music documentary. I was in such a bad... Continue reading

I'm starting to come down. Damn it. Not that real life is so bad but just the same. You mean I CAN'T spend all my time not working, listening to music, hugging people I like, and drinking wine? Damn it.... Continue reading

Saturday was a great day. We started off with Brock Zeman and Blair Hogan at 11:00 at Hatwrks and good god I just loved them. I'd listened to some of their music and really liked it, but this was the... Continue reading

So by Saturday we were starting to get into the routine. We got up, headed out to the Nashville Biscuit House for breakfast. Eggs over easy, sausage, potatoes and a side of sliced tomatoes. Delightful. We went back to our... Continue reading

I couldn't sleep Thursday night. It's kind of like after a house concert...the adrenalin is still going even though I am physically tired. Eventually toward morning I finally slept hard, and waking up felt like the first time I'd truly... Continue reading

Damn we had fun. And I think we even kinda deserved it! Home and feeling glowingly good from all the great music we heard and good friends we saw in Nashville at Americana Fest. It almost seems like a dream,... Continue reading

Damn. I had a BAD day at work today. BAD. I'm sitting here drinking wine and listening to Ian Hunter, Leo's upstairs computering, and Owen and Ernie are out in Cyril driving around until the Papa Del's pizza is ready... Continue reading

An up and down weekend with a little too much work in it for my taste, frankly, but there have been some great moments. One blow up with a child but I think we got past it. Damn I was... Continue reading

1. Every day on the way to work we pass a huge house under construction. They tore down a nice well-built mid-century house and started building this crazy McMansion 3.0. It’s huge and has lots of tile and it just... Continue reading

Hmmm. I don't have a clear answer for you Carol. There are a lot of studies comparing these things and many conflict. I know that part of environmental impact is from the production of the car so driving an old car helps with that. I don't know how it would compare to our used Honda SUV....

1. Can we have four day weekends more often please? I've read about 4 or 5 books, cooked a bit, planted some windowboxes for all, and laughed at my boys. That's about it. I planned to clean the living room... Continue reading

As I mentioned, in the flurry of the last several weeks, the three guys went down to Knoxville to look at a bug (Owen has been hunting them down all over the place for months now). I couldn't go because... Continue reading

The last couple of weeks have been crazy. I've been working nonstop with our big festival happening Sunday. I mean, truly, nonstop. In there somewhere, the three guys drove to Knoxville and bought a car. Then Ernie and Owen took... Continue reading

Becky, this gave me such pleasure to read. Your description of your father and the town are so wonderfully evocative. I'm so glad our spur of the moment trip connected with you. I love all our intersecting circles!

A nice little Southern pyramidal roofed cottage with Victorian trim. I made Leo take this picture out the car window while we stopped at a gas station. He just shook his head and said, "I don't understand you." I refrained... Continue reading
