Life as a 40, oops 50-something--- juggling work, life, children and a great husband who is a stay-at-home-work-your-head-off Dad and living with cancer, and all the various challenges and joys of life as we live it....
Interests: in no particular order: americana music, gardening, my family, cooking (not baking), old buildings (I tend to like them best before they're restored even though I'm all for historic preservation), antiques...mostly 19th century american, reading (sometimes respectable stuff and sometimes anything set in regency england), roadside architecture, mid-19th century american glass, old roads, hosting parties and house concerts in our slightly ramshackle house, laughing at my boys, admiring my boys, missing those I've lost, loving those I have.

Evidently my body has decided I can not fool it. It does not seem to understand my love for denial. My sister Judi would laugh at that. She always teased me about my love of denial. Eh. Terrible day today... Continue reading

Unexpectedly, I have spent much of the weekend curled up on the couch feeling wretched. Starting Thursday my ulcer acted up big time...the worst it's been in ages. I was so disappointed beside feeling lousy. I'd been experimenting with going... Continue reading

I took off work a bit early yesterday. I'll have to work later than usual tomorrow to make up for it but it was well worth it. Owen had asked me to go to a movie with him. I asked... Continue reading

Well. The one good thing about stressful days at work is that you REALLY appreciate being home in the evening. How's that for looking for the silver lining? I try. I fucking try. Sometimes when I'm really frustrated I just... Continue reading

I find myself stupidly rebellious against myself sometimes. Someone kindly nominated me to do the black and white photo thing on Facebook for five days or seven days or whatever it is. I was pleased because I wanted to, except... Continue reading

We've had lots of great things happen in the last month or two, but it's also been a bit stressful. This weekend I have completely indulged myself. Friday afternoon we had lunch and got to see our beloved Amy at... Continue reading

Ernie and Owen carving pumpkins. Leo and I observed and computered. Owen's pumpkin. Ernie asked him if the teardrop meant he'd killed another pumpkin. Ernie's pumpkin was a tribute to Leo and the band he loves called Knife Party (see... Continue reading

1. Random notes because I don't think I could focus on anything to save my soul. 2. Poor Owen is experiencing a let down going back to normal life as a high school sophomore. My poor boy. I totally understand.... Continue reading

1. Ok, I've been talking about Owen nonstop, but I must say I had a really nice long hang out with Leo Sunday morning. We watched the videos he'd put together of the Milwaukee Road 261 trip in Minneapolis and... Continue reading

1. I can't say my week has gone as planned. Tuesday morning I got ready for work, put my jacket on, put my purse on my shoulder and said to Ernie, "Let's go." And with that back went YOWWWW right... Continue reading
