Life as a 40, oops 50-something--- juggling work, life, children and a great husband who is a stay-at-home-work-your-head-off Dad and living with cancer, and all the various challenges and joys of life as we live it....
Interests: in no particular order: americana music, gardening, my family, cooking (not baking), old buildings (I tend to like them best before they're restored even though I'm all for historic preservation), antiques...mostly 19th century american, reading (sometimes respectable stuff and sometimes anything set in regency england), roadside architecture, mid-19th century american glass, old roads, hosting parties and house concerts in our slightly ramshackle house, laughing at my boys, admiring my boys, missing those I've lost, loving those I have.

I'm more of a reader than a tv watcher....not that I don't watch plenty of tv, but if I had to make a choice it would be books. For the last few months however, with this dizzy-whatever stuff going on... Continue reading

It’s been a rather disheartening week. Last week I was feeling really good, in fact over the weekend, I thought to myself, that if the physical therapist again asked me how much percentage I was feeling better since I first... Continue reading

1. Last night Ernie picked me up from work and took me to Black Dog for a drink. We sat at the bar and watched Owen work. He is so patient with us. He just gives us a smirk that... Continue reading

Third time with Adam and Chris Carroll and better than ever. I just couldn't love the two of them any more than I do. They are glorious. Incredible songs....Chris' gorgeous vocal and harmonies too...and the way Adam tips his head... Continue reading

1. You know what's odd? I dream dizzy. It makes me wonder...am I dizzy in my sleep, or am I just dreaming about being dizzy? It really doesn't matter, just something to ponder for no good reason. The dizziness is... Continue reading

1. My new routine is to get up, do my exercises for my dizziness, and then get ready for the day. Today, I was bleary, so I thought I'd just sit down for awhile first. Big mistake, because all of... Continue reading

"You're not crazy." When the physical therapist said those words to me yesterday, I almost wanted to cry. I woke up yesterday a nervous wreck about the physical therapy for my dizziness. We headed over to the Spine Institute at... Continue reading

Last night I sent Ernie out to get oregano and dill from the yard. He stripped the leaves off the stems, ending up with about two cups. I chopped them roughly and put them in the food processor with a... Continue reading

A grey day today and I am just as happy with it this way. Over the last few days I've had my worst dizziness yet. It's very hard to do anything. I can write here for a bit but then... Continue reading

I hope I'm not putting too much stock into Friday's treatment for my inner ear stuff, because that hope is what is keeping me going right now. Over the weekend I tried book after book, but I just can't seem... Continue reading

A quiet weekend again. I've been reading up on vestibular disorders, as we seem to have finally narrowed it down to that regarding the issues that are really bothering me at the moment. I read the list of symptoms (I've... Continue reading

A long and rather difficult week. I headed back to work but found it very hard to focus...I would find myself just staring at the computer. Managed the first three days, but yesterday mid morning I got extremely dizzy. I... Continue reading

Piss poor day, and I'm tired of feeling dizzy and buzzy. Work is utterly exhausting. Sad and confused as to what to do. I am pinning my hopes on my treatment next Friday. I'm feeling very let down and frustrated.... Continue reading

I can't get my mind off Anthony Bourdain's suicide. I'm smart enough to know that we never really know what is going on with other people, and I don't think I'm naive enough to think that fame and fortune solve... Continue reading

Yesterday was a good day. Leo spent the afternoon at Parkland registering for classes. He texted me at one point, while he was waiting for an appointment, and sent me a picture of his new ID. He said, “I know... Continue reading

1. It's not even that hot yet, just in the mid 80's, but it already feels steamy and heavy outside. Ernie popped a few plants in the ground as I stood and pointed but we didn't stay out for long.... Continue reading

As always, birthday boys get to request whatever they want for dinner. Ernie, rather predictably---which I say in a loving way---wanted fried chicken and potato salad. I often do an oven fried chicken but haven't done traditional fried chicken all... Continue reading
