Life as a 40, oops 50-something--- juggling work, life, children and a great husband who is a stay-at-home-work-your-head-off Dad and living with cancer, and all the various challenges and joys of life as we live it....
Interests: in no particular order: americana music, gardening, my family, cooking (not baking), old buildings (I tend to like them best before they're restored even though I'm all for historic preservation), antiques...mostly 19th century american, reading (sometimes respectable stuff and sometimes anything set in regency england), roadside architecture, mid-19th century american glass, old roads, hosting parties and house concerts in our slightly ramshackle house, laughing at my boys, admiring my boys, missing those I've lost, loving those I have.

I am here. I am alive. I haven't been posting much because I've been a bit under the weather. Somewhat miserably under the weather to be honest. Lord, I haven't even posted about our triumphant lobster dinner with Amy and... Continue reading

My cooking, of late, has been somewhat uninspired. We've been keeping it simple, grilled or roasted chicken most often, with vegetables. I've been slowly trying to add back some higher fodmap foods, with mixed results. Over the weekend I was... Continue reading

1. Me: Why are you sitting on the dining room table? Owen: Why are you standing on the dining room floor? I shrugged and moved on. When you know you aren't going to win.... 2. We finally burned the last... Continue reading

There's lots more I want to write about our trip to Omaha and the 844, but life has swept me along and I'm too busy at the moment. I miss you 844. We had a great Fourth of July---just potluck... Continue reading

A rainy morning on Sunday....wandering around Omaha... Note the difference between the two cars....it blinks between a crumpled car and a newly fixed car Sadly, we were too early to see the sign lit. I bet it's delightful. It was... Continue reading

We were hot and tired by this point of the day and the loss of adrenalin after the 844 left us drained. We decided we had to do our other main stops of the day before we did lunch because... Continue reading

Oh man. Some times things WORK. After all the worry and stress about the 844's schedule and our trip...when it happened...it was utterly perfect. Friday night I barely slept and dreamt about trains and crowds. I was somewhere between a... Continue reading

On Thursday afternoon all four of us were gathered in the living room trying to decide what to do about our trip....go, and just hope that the 844 would leave while we were there, or just cancel the whole trip.... Continue reading

This morning, in a stunning example of my skills in managing everyday life, I managed to get our water turned off. I vaguely recall that a few months ago we somehow had a credit on our water bill, so we... Continue reading

I've been so excited about our long weekend coming up...we were planning to head to Omaha, to see a Union Pacific steam engine leaving for Cheyenne. It is mostly for Leo of course, we let each boy choose a weekend... Continue reading

I was in a grumpy mood the other day after my doctor's appointment but then I found a new-to-me ghost sign in downtown, and it turned my mood right around. Ernie and I were driving south on Market Street, past... Continue reading

A FULL weekend. Sometimes I complain when I don't do enough over the weekend. This weekend that could not be the case. I must admit Friday was a bit of a loss. I went in for more testing....drank some disgusting... Continue reading

Today my diet is confined to poached or baked white chicken breast, no oil, steamed white rice, salt and pepper, chicken broth (prepared with no vegetables) and black tea or coffee. Delightful. Another Hydrogen Breath test tomorrow. Last night in... Continue reading
