Life as a 40, oops 50-something--- juggling work, life, children and a great husband who is a stay-at-home-work-your-head-off Dad and living with cancer, and all the various challenges and joys of life as we live it....
Interests: in no particular order: americana music, gardening, my family, cooking (not baking), old buildings (I tend to like them best before they're restored even though I'm all for historic preservation), antiques...mostly 19th century american, reading (sometimes respectable stuff and sometimes anything set in regency england), roadside architecture, mid-19th century american glass, old roads, hosting parties and house concerts in our slightly ramshackle house, laughing at my boys, admiring my boys, missing those I've lost, loving those I have.

I felt so raw yesterday. Ernie and I gave up any attempt at productivity and curled up in the media room and binged on the new season of Bloodlines. We cursed the sky whenever it was blue and nodded approvingly... Continue reading

Friday we decided to go to lunch with a couple of friends. Ernie was taking forever to get ready, as always, so I stepped out on the porch to wait for him. And there, lying right in the middle of... Continue reading

I feel drained and empty. My beloved Michael Pollock has died. I knew it was close; I've been waiting to hear, and yet, these things still feel like an electric shock. I think I was 19 or 20 when I... Continue reading

What a week. I could have sworn yesterday was Friday. We were watching a DVR'd Chew and I said to Ernie, I don't understand, this seems to be yesterday's." He broke it to me that it was still Thursday. A... Continue reading

Adam and Chris Carroll brought their hearts, their charm and their incredible music. As wonderful as they were a year ago, this was even better. Wow. They both are powerful and with the combination of Chris's narrative and Adam's dry... Continue reading

Last night we ended cooking our dinner late. To those who know me, yes I know, surprise, surprise. We had some leftover quinoa and so I added some of the smoked salmon we got at Calumet Fisheries to it, flaking... Continue reading

I can't wait for tomorrow night's house concert with Adam and Chris Carroll. It's been a long haul with lots of events all spring and I feel like this is our reward. A big, fat, happy house concert with food... Continue reading

Sunday we slept late in our surprisingly nice hotel room. We laid around and giggled a bit while I tried to figure out where we should go to breakfast. I finally said, "the hell the with it, let's just get... Continue reading

Too tired to post more than a few pictures. Great weekend. It ended on a bad note with me wanting to murder one of my children, but eh, what can you do? Comes with the territory. Ian Hunter and the... Continue reading

A nice quiet evening last night. I was tiredish from a busy day at work. Ernie and I watched the news and shook our heads at the world and then he and Owen took off for the Tom Petty show.... Continue reading

How on earth DOES it come around so quickly? Monday again. It was a fairly quiet weekend, did a good bit of work from home, bought a few plants, watched Owen dig out a humongous overgrown ornamental grass. That's about... Continue reading

You gotta love a teacher who says to your kid, "We love your parents, and you know you are driving them crazy, right?" I giggled and giggled, which I was able to do as he brought his grade up somewhat.... Continue reading

I feel as though I've been a bit quiet this week. I've just been struggling with this stomach stuff a bit, trying to push through it to get to work and get things done, and kind of collapsing when I... Continue reading

A good weekend. A quiet weekend, and it was just what I need. I wanted to make myself get out of the house at least for a bit so, after getting Owen off to band practice yesterday, and saying goodbye... Continue reading
