Life as a 40-something--- juggling work, life, children and a great husband who is a stay-at-home-work-your-head-off Dad and living with cancer, and all the various challenges and joys of life as we live it....
Interests: in no particular order: americana music, gardening, my family, cooking (not baking), old buildings (I tend to like them best before they're restored even though I'm all for historic preservation), antiques...mostly 19th century american, reading (sometimes respectable stuff and sometimes anything set in regency england), roadside architecture, mid-19th century american glass, old roads, hosting parties and house concerts in our slightly ramshackle house, laughing at my boys, admiring my boys, missing those I've lost, loving those I have.

For the last two evenings I have turned out the light before I was even sleepy. It seemed the only way to stop my mind from racing in circles. I don’t know why. Nothing terrible…just the normal aggregate of work,... Continue reading

I can't help it. Sometimes I wish I had nice normal kids. Nice run of the mill kids.Perhaps a little less "interesting" and perhaps even a tad less smart. The kind of kid I could send to a program that... Continue reading

I’ve lost track of where in the week I am. I just checked and it looks like it’s Tuesday. It was only Friday that I saw Peter Case but it seems like eons ago. Peter sounded absolutely wonderful. I think... Continue reading

Owen got up this morning and came and poked his head in our room. He said, "Mom, I don't know what time you're supposed to be up...but I think you probably should be up." I sighed and said, "I knowwww."... Continue reading

I can't quite imagine a better night than Saturday. I don't think I really have the words to describe it. You know it's a good house concert when the music flies by.....the first set is over and you think, "ALREADY?"... Continue reading

1. We had to be at Carle today at 7:00 am for some tests. Sometimes it feels so odd to be with Leo at these things. I have to bite my tongue not to answer questions for him. He knows... Continue reading

1. We had a rogue jalapeno last night. Most of the time I don't find the jalapenos at the grocery store super hot...especially when they are kind of oversized. Last night, in theory, I needed two red jalapeno peppers for... Continue reading

Me: Don't forget to brush your hair and your teeth. (13 year old makes inarticulate noise of protest) Me: Don't grunt at me when I say something polite to you. 13 year old: (big sigh) I wasn't GRUNTING! Me: What... Continue reading

O.k......yes, if it had been nice weather my yard would look a lot better....but I kinda liked having a dreary weekend. We were pretty lazy. On Saturday we hung around the house before eventually running a bunch of errands and... Continue reading

Judi's been on my mind a lot lately. It's funny how grief ebbs and flows. We've been watching the PBS show Call the Midwife. We love it (thanks for the recommendations on facebook), well, at least Ernie and Owen and... Continue reading

Our share this week was still small, but delightful. A big bunch of fresh thyme, fresh oregano, onion greens, Bibb lettuce and a radish. O.k....side note. I just wondered why I instinctively capitalized Bibb lettuce so I had to look... Continue reading
