Life as a 40, oops 50-something--- juggling work, life, children and a great husband who is a stay-at-home-work-your-head-off Dad and living with cancer, and all the various challenges and joys of life as we live it....
Interests: in no particular order: americana music, gardening, my family, cooking (not baking), old buildings (I tend to like them best before they're restored even though I'm all for historic preservation), antiques...mostly 19th century american, reading (sometimes respectable stuff and sometimes anything set in regency england), roadside architecture, mid-19th century american glass, old roads, hosting parties and house concerts in our slightly ramshackle house, laughing at my boys, admiring my boys, missing those I've lost, loving those I have.

Ok. Much better start to the day. Car is back, I'm bringing food to my friend tonight, got our tax refund, met with Teri after work who resuscitated me with fried food, wine and kindness. Honestly, I was totally blown... Continue reading

I must admit to being a bit frazzled by work this week. My colleague and I figure that we're working every weekend until mid May, sometimes both days and that all kicks off this week. So, a lot of things... Continue reading

I kinda thought we might just hibernate in our hotel room, as it was lovely, but I got the itch to go out. Even though we had pizza the night before, I wanted to hit Leonardo's because I'd seen pictures... Continue reading

Our main goal for our trip was to visit the Lincoln Highway bridge in Tama, Iowa. I drove across that bridge some 30 years ago, and as I remember it, my friend Alice and I did not stop and take... Continue reading

For the last several years the four of us have taken off for a few days over spring break. The boys have politely expressed to us that family vacations are, basically, over, so Ernie and I took off on our... Continue reading

The hardest thing when watching a beloved friend suffer, in this case, from fucking cancer, is the helplessness of not being able to do anything. On Saturday I was messaging with a friend and when I again said, "anything you... Continue reading
