Hmm, this could be candidate for a book to listen to while walking. I love a book with a solid dose of satire.
Mona Simpson's "My Hollywood" - a review
The Hollywood so devastatingly rendered in Mona Simpson's new novel is a different universe from the world-famous well-spring of movie magic. Its dramas and comedies play out far behind the scenes, and the roles are filled almost exclusively by women and children. Men seem only to accept walk-on...
Crusie and Weiner are my two favorite authors to listen to while exercising. They make me forget what I'm doing.
What are you reading now?
``I'm reading the new Jennifer Crusie, Maybe This Time, and I'm liking that a lot. And I just bought the new book by Chevy Stevens, Still Missing.'' JENNIFER WEINER, author of Fly Away Home
I tried to read Foer. I really did. Then I decided I'd rather go to the dentist. For a root canal. I'd go for Netherland for sure.
I'll leap on the Hemingway bandwagon, although I keep forcing myself to read him in case I'm missing a gem.
I'd argue against Lahiri, love every word she's written. Some of the others I've never heard of, so if they are overrated, they are not overpopular.
Most overrated writers, according to the HuffPo
Over at the Huffington Post, Anis Shivani has compiled his list of the 15 most overrated writers. Now, as we know, the whole point of lists is to argue over them, and by creating this list Shivani has certainly given us something to argue about. And I thank him for that; his arguments, even ...
I was in B&N and they already had a kiosk right by the front door. They were also demonstrating the Nook as a music player (had speakers hooked up to it), had cool leather covers on display, and showed how you could download free books from websites like Project Gutenberg. They are giving Amazon a run for their money.
Barnes & Noble steps it up a notch for the Nook
Can Barnes & Noble keep up with the Joneses (and the Amazons and the Apples)? The company is going to give it a try, the New York Times reports. Starting this fall, B&N will build 1,000-square-foot boutiques in its stores exclusively devoted to selling its e-reader. The boutiques will have sa...
It all sounds great, but what format books can you read on it? Still only AMZN's proprietary format? I don't think so.
Amazon unveils Kindle 3
Another day, another new e-reader. The latest is Amazon's Kindle 3, which is 21% smaller in size and lighter (only 8.7 ounces). Amazon also reports its contrast is 50 percent better than any other e-reader, and a single battery charge lasts a month. The updated 3G wireless version will still c...
Fantastic. I love the cake in the face, and the casual flip of the teacup. Go girls!
"Jane Austen's Fight Club" - a video
Good work by the people who put this together!!
I started reading it within hours after seeing her at the Miami Book Fair. Shame on you Connie for waiting so long. The book will make a great movie, it's such a good story, as long as the producers don't wreck it. But with Waltz, I'm with you, it's a must-see.
Sara Gruen's "Water for Elephants" on audio
Been listening to Sara Gruen's Water for Elephants on audiobook the past few days, since I was starting to believe I was one of about eight people on the planet who hadn't yet read it. So far I'm enjoying the story of young Jacob Jankowski, the Cornell vet student whose parents' deaths send hi...
I think I might be in the "both" camp (even though I don't have an e-reader yet). I can imagine if I was traveling a lot I would appreciate not having to carry lots of books and never having to worry about running out of reading material on a long flight. This is where the Kindle and Nook beat out the iPad, with long battery life, so no fear of running out of juice too.
Mashable readers like real books; they really, really like them
In an utterly meaningless but nonetheless interesting poll, Mashable reports that 41.9 percent of its readers prefer "real" books over e-books. Book fans, take heart! Granted, it's a small sample size - very small! - but there seem to be few victories these days. The rest of the poll numbers may...
That should have been the first Roth you read I guess, having maligned him so in the past...
"American Pastoral": Wow. Just...wow.
So after dragging my heels and rolling my eyes and complaining, I finally started listening to Philip Roth's American Pastoral on audio - thanks, Broward County Library! You aren't going to believe this: I love it. I'm on the second disc (of 14), and more than twice I've gone back to listen to...
