I have a terrible habit of absolutely loving a particular colour, coming to the end of it and then completely forgetting what it was. I probably should have been keeping a record of my colours before now but there we go! So this week I gradually started wrapping some of... Continue reading

Thank you Glenda, I have to admit I'm quite addicted to chain stitch at the moment, I think I would quite like chain stitch and french knot hair for myself! I agree about the macro shots, it's easy to forget that not everyone's stitches are the same and there are some parts of an embroidery where it might matter more. x

The designs and colours are very beautiful! I agree it took a bit of to-ing and fro-ing for me to work the instructions out. I think everything is there but not always obvious. It took a while for me to work out the number of threads for everything. I'm glad you find my instructions simple :) x

A question I get asked quite a lot is how long my stitches are. The first time I was asked I took a ruler and measured, a fairly consistent 3mm. But this morning I was a little distracted while I was stitching this first draft of a princess and listening... Continue reading

That sounds beautiful and I really need a scissor case! I will have a look for the book. I am so in love with Japanese embroidery. x

Hi Sara and thank you for your comment. I agree, usually I do like to use a lot of colours but this is great for carrying around with you. I think I still prefer using backstitch to outline stitch too :) I am always on the lookout for Japanese craft books as they are always so beautiful, I have just ordered one in Japanese, I'm hoping I can follow the diagrams!

When I first began Lilipopo it was zakka sewing that interested and encouraged me. I love the way very simple designs can be beautiful with a little care. So over the Easter weekend I had a little time to do some personal stitching and pulled out my zakka embroidery book... Continue reading

Spring keeps showing it's head for a moment here and then disappearing back into cold grey rain. I think it's probably always like this at this time of year but I do love the sunny days! So I wanted a happy project to fill a little time this week. With... Continue reading

Thank you Angela Maria, I think if you go to the google translate drop down menu on the right it should offer Portuguese. It shows on my computer. Kate x

Today's #marchmeetthemaker prompt was tools that I use so I thought I would write a blog post about the tools that I use and where I buy them (in the UK). The thing I really love about embroidery is that you need very few tools and materials, a needle, thread... Continue reading

Hi, I'm sorry I'm not a quilter (would like to be one day!) The only thing I can think from what you have described would be to line the whole block (rather than the individual white pieces) if this makes sense. It may not matter about the lining, I certainly don't always line my embroidery, you would just need to be careful about weaving in your thread ends and snipping them close to your stitching. I just use a thin white cotton or linen behind the embroidery I don't tend to use fancier stabilizers but I think I will look into them and post about them once I know more. How lovely for your daughter to spend a semester in Spain as part of her studies, I did the same thing in France (many years ago!) and loved it. Kate x

Hi Karen I have two boxes at the top on the right. The top one is for my newsletter and the one underneath is for my blog. I have just noticed that it's not very clear so I will try to change it this week. If you are on a phone (and possibly a tablet) you may have to scroll right down to the bottom of the page to find the boxes (a long way down). Hope this helps x

I don't normally like to begin my blog post with a huge picture of me but this month I have been taking part in instagram's #meetthemaker (my instagram account is @lilipoposketches) and so I decided to come out from the shadows and share a little about myself. My name is... Continue reading

Oh gosh you get lots of lovely snow in Yorkshire! An embroidered quilt sounds beautiful and plenty of stitching to fill the year! I have crochet squares that were meant to be a blanket but will eventually become a cushion cover ;) I have only tried backwards chain in a line not for anything complicated I should really give it a proper go. I'm so used to going forwards that I seem to get confused about what I'm doing in the middle. I'm sure practice would help! x

Thank you for the lovely words about my embroidery. How lovely to still have the blankets there's something so special about having your name stitched into a blanket, my teens still have the blankets I made them when they were little. I have seen the pics of Lincolnshire as my mum and sister live there. You are lucky enough to get snow every year! (it seems lucky to us down here in Cornwall and missing the snow) x

Recently I've been using ivory essex linen for my stitching which is a lot lighter than the natural colour. I do try to keep the backs of my embroideries very neat, avoiding knots and carried threads, but sometimes (almost always) there is a place where I just have to carry... Continue reading
