We offer so few sports that I think spending big bucks on an AD is a complete waste. Great though it would be, there is no on or near campus stadium in our future, so the notion the AD needs to be some super fund raiser is off base, IMHO. Spend the money to attract and retain the best possible asst coaches.

For a program with relatively sports and no on campus football stadium to manage, I'm not sure why UM has more than a low level/low $ AD. The only thing the AD does that really matters is hiring and managing the coaches. When that is needed a consultant is used for screening anyway. Let the Trustees step up since they need to approve the hire anyway. Huge $ could be saved with this approach and plowed into the programs, esp the football asst coach salary category where we are well below market for big time programs.

But, the winner is that "the NFL looks to bowl players first... always" Sure they do. That's why they spend millions on scouting and combines and draft lots of guys from DII and the 'directional" schools. And no one would have draft Barkley had he come out right? Not without that meaningless bowl game on his junior year resume. The sequel to Dumb and Dumber was just announced as Dumb and Dumber To (kinda funny I think), but I'd have gone with Dumb, Dumber and Gallo.

Let me try to explain it like I do to my 6 year old daughter: When you are on D and it is 3rd and long you have 3 basic choices: 1. Play your base defense 2. Bring 5 or more guys 3. Rush 3, drop 8, keep the play in front of you forcing a punt. She got it on the ist try.
