Heat 102, Hornets 101
Observations from Sunday's 102-101 victory over the Hornets at AmericanAirlines Arena: Remember, even though Marcus Thornton (pictured below) was selected with the second-round pick the Heat traded to the Hornets at last June's draft, the Heat never had plans to select the LSU guard for itself...

ASK IRA: What's up with Wade?
Q: Given that the Heat is now back to its typical wishy-washy style of getting to games on Cuban time and trying to win in the third and fourth, after giving up the entire first half, do you think Wade is one of those ridiculously moody players? The guy either shows up or he doesn't? -- Roberto....

Mary Knows Football: Week 8
16 Utah vs. 4 TCU: TCU Some of you might be asking “who cares?” Well, if you look at the other top 25 teams playing this weekend and the likely result of the matchup, you would see why I had to pick this one: I simply can’t forecast the triumph of evil . . . or sweater vests. Last year...

Is it time for a Beasley power play?
There was a point last season when Michael Beasley was as dominant as any rebounder on the Heat roster. In successive late-season games against the Celtics, Knicks and Hawks there were 13, 16 and 13 rebounds. And then there are stretches like the current one, with rebounding totals of four, fou...
why is everyone up so late? I was writing a paper.... I'm trying to find the new Masta Ace cd and can't... DAMMIT!
Beasley apparently is no Super Cool Closer
This time I didn't even try to hide the reason for asking. Instead, after Erik Spoelstra was done with the media pack following Wednesday's victory in Washington, I walked up and said, "You know, I'm going to get about 300 e-mails again."Hyperbole? Sure. But there certainly was strong sentiment ...

do you realize you just proved his point? so who is the dummy? ALL he is saying is that when a team is a serious playoff contender (meaning it has good talent around), more than likely the star player isn't going to be the leagues scoring champ... AND the fact that Wade scored 50 vs Utah and we needed all those points proved we basically had a one man team... how is this not obvious?
Paging the perspective police
Yes, 2-0 feels awfully good for a team that exited a 2-5 preseason rather uncertain of itself. And there have been plenty of encouraging signs, from Jermaine O'Neal's back-to-back 22-12s, to Michael Beasley's play as the starting power forward, to Dwyane Wade picking up where he left off, to Udo...

The Short List: Week 8
Only 13 fortunate teams remain on the Shortlist to the San Fernando Valley as October comes to a close and the contenders for the 2009 National Championship read as follows: Florida, Alabama, Texas, Iowa, TCU, Cincinnati, Boise State, Louisiana State, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, Southern Cal, Wes...
those stats... cool. But they gathered all those stats by playing who exactly? Remember the same gaudy stats were thrown around when OU came to town after whooping on some cupcake teams.

Mary Knows Football: Week 3
UF vs LSU: UF / LSU / LSU Why do I have three answers to one game? At this point, there are three scenarios: (1) Saint Timmy plays, and because Jesus and circumcised Filipino orphans love him, he is miraculously healed with no lingering concussion symptoms; (2) Saint Timmy plays with lingering...
have you guys heard what they are reporting on ESPNNews... they said the salary cap for next season is gonna be 10-12 million LESS than what most GMs planned for... So I guess we have to strike whenever we can and stop waiting for next year...
Andre Miller available. Now what?
The Heat's interest in Andre Miller in recent years has been undeniable. The problem has been that Miller has remained out of reach as he was shuffled from Denver to Philadelphia. But now that appears to be changing, with the 76ers making clear that their free-...
I just want my humble Wade back, that's all!
But yes, I would run a Diva Wade out of town!
Posted by: King Riley | July 07, 2009 at 01:12 AM
dude, 'humble' wade was like his first year and compared to other superstars, he still IS humble... I wonder if you were a Cavs fan how you would be reacting when James goes off on the mouth... Wade gave us a brilliant season, he is caught up in contract talks for TWO WEEKS and you want him gone... tsk tsk tsk
At this stage, why not a mid-level move?
Make no mistake, Pat Riley is not a fan of the mid-level exception, at least when it comes to spending the entire sum on a single-player. He calls it "one of the worst contracts to sign." He means, of course, it is one of the worst when extending it out the f...
i thin King Riley isn't a Heat fan and wants to run Wade outta town

everybody knows that Jordan in his Wizard days didn't count... that was just some 9-11 thing to raise money, etc.
Money for nothing: Expiring contracts
Jermaine O'Neal may never be this valuable again in his career. Mark Blount certainly won’t. And yet, the Heat is in no position to cash in. One of the benefits of the Heat's current roster is the enormity of its expiring contracts. O'Neal is on the...
am I the only one that thinks Wade isn't going to resign with ANY OTHER team but the Miami Heat?? He just wants to be part of perhaps the greatest FA market in NBA history... Seasons past, Wade used to talk occasionally on how Jordan stayed with one team his whole career and how rare that was, NO WAY IN HELL WADE SIGNS WITH ANY TEAM BUT MIAMI...

The best years of Wade's life
In the debate about whether Dwyane Wade should even consider extending his contract this summer (and therefore fast-tracking the Heat's rebuilding program), there is only one argument Pat Riley can offer. At 27 and coming off a career year, does Wa...
JDOG, we vilified the guy for being a little different :(
Will Pat Prove Pat Correct?
Don't call him Patrick Beverley. He simply wants to be know as Pat. Furthermore, he'd like to be regarded as the Miami Heat's backup behind soon-to-be second-year starter Mario Chalmers. If not the outright starter. He has that kind of potential and confidence. Amid all of the midnight hour dr...
thats absurd. haslem has already said he could play sf so where does that leave lebron? no way he takes a starting job from haslem and i dont think lebron could cut it at pf. even if we found a spot for him, he doesnt fit into the "heat culture". hes a great talent but he doesnt exactly remind u of (pounds table) tim hardaway,(pounds table) dan majerle, etc.
Posted by: kbboy80 | May 31, 2009 at 02:32 AM
BOOOOOO!! GET OFF THE STAGE!! joke is dried out, the Haslem jokes are getting played out people, find something else to rag on, like how badly Cook sucked after the all star break, or why is Mark Blount still getting paid...
Deconstructing the Heat-Shaq deal
While listening to ESPN's commentary on Friday's Lakers-Nuggets finale, Jeff Van Gundy noted that if the cap and tax limit L.A. to a significant bid for only one of its two prime free-agent forwards this summer, he would spend the money on Trevor Ariza. ...
you guys are getting plenty dumb now... this is a HEAT top 50 list, not everything you did in your career list... so the top 10 is fine with me, only thing I can see wrong now is Posey not being ranked higher than Marion, but whatever, and get over the Haslem bashing already, sound like some whiny kids, your whining is not helping the situation
The Heat 50: You do the math

I'm not mad cuz the Cavs won, to me Orlando is gonna win this series... But just the LeBron made the shot, now I don't think I can watch ESPN anymore, if you thought they loved him before... ARRGGG!!!
Draft bored: Mocking where the Heat currently stands
A few years back, the Heat paraded virtually all of its draft prospects in front of the media. So we got to ask D.J. Strawberry about his famous baseball dad, Glen Davis about his "Big Baby" moniker, Taurean Green about his local roots. This year, though, the wall of sile...

Heat cost the NBA better theater
First of all, I'm not buying what I heard driving around today on the radio regarding how the Heat benefited by not having to go through what the Hawks are enduring against the Cavaliers. Apples and oranges. The Hawks are...
