It’s no secret that I’m a fan of crowdfunding as a platform to validate ideas. There are so many good reasons to choose crowdfunding as a way to finance your project it is difficult to find drawbacks. You get to know that someone is willing to pay for your product. Your customers pay the larger product development costs in advance. It gets users to spread the word about your product, even before it reaches the market. If you like crowdfunding too, you’ll want to check this infographic from the analysis of 400.000 campaigns on Kickstarter and IndieGoGo: Source The Kickstarter... Continue reading

The Coolest Cooler icebox surpassed Peeble and became the largest funded product on Kickstarted. The total funding value was $13.285.226 or 26.570% the asking price. This icebox com with it’s own blender, Bluetooh speakers, cell phone charger and much more. It has everthing you may possibly need for your picnic. I wrote before against converging several product into one. This icebox does it successfully, increasing convenience and its own value. The result: a massive Kickstarter success. The icebox creator told Mashable that this was the second version of the product submitted to crowdfunding. The first one failed. The asking price... Continue reading

Wearables are getting all the hype lately. Every day, more companies create new devices, using new sensors to measure all that we do. You must expect that someone would pursue the same objectives, following a different path. And they did. In a recent project called Harken, PLUX is integrating respiration and heart hate sensors in the safety belt of a car. Because the sensors are placed in the safety belt, the user doesn’t need to wear anything. The reasoning behind this approach is that wearables have some inconveniences. You may forget to use them or to recharge them. Some may... Continue reading

Many interesting wearables are coming to market, and UpRight is one of them. As one that has to work hours on end at a computer, I wish I had found them out sooner, to pledge on this project. Their crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo exceeded the mark by more than doubling the asking value. You may want to check the video they present on the IndieGoGo campaign. Notice how they lead with emotion, getting you into the story, before explaining what the product is or does. Good storytelling. Well done! My own ideas on how to successfully run a crowfunding campaign... Continue reading

It feels like déjà vu. For those of you who remember, this is like what you used to see in 2000. CYNK Technology, a “Social Networking“ stock exploded 25.000%, from $0,10 in June 17 to $14,71 as of July 9. According to the news, the company may not exist, and has no revenue. (see article on Yahoo). You remember seeing this sort of news when we were heading to the dot-com bust. Specialists are alerting that the current monetary policies, of injecting capital and keeping interest rates artificially low are unsustainable. The S&P is already 27% above the highest value... If you like to read, you’re going to love this. I’m an avid reader who buys more books than I can read. They sit at home waiting for their turn. If you recognize yourself in the above statement, you should consider buying a Kindle. For the longest time, I avoided e-readers. You may feel the same. You don’t get the feeling of a paper book in your hands, you lose on the feeling of turning a page, and of seeing your bookmark moving through the book towards the end. All this is true. But then I bought a Kindle Paperwhite... Continue reading

There is a simple mistake most people make, that costs a fortune to companies in lost sales and added development expenses. If you are like most people, you’ll feel tempted to include an extra feature in your product. You may think it is a good idea, but it often leads to bad results. Combining two features is called convergence. If you look for it, you can spot it in many products around you. Notorious examples of convergence These include the swiss army knife, the ConVair 118 flying car-plane or the refrigerator with embedded TV. All these products have two common... Continue reading

Have you ever wanted to speak in a different language, but were afraid or ashamed to do so? Today, if you can’t speak English, you are close to being illiterate. English achieved what Esperanto tried to do but never did. It established itself as a neutral language. It’s the language that people from different countries can use to talk with each other. If you are looking for information online, you can get more information, and of better quality, if you look for it in English than in any other language. So how can you learn English (or any language) in... Continue reading
