Yes! either that or trade him for one of those ambidextrous pitchers. Or - according to fangraphs - his fastball is his best pitch, and one of the better ones in baseball, he should use it more ;) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/wakefields-fastball-redux/

Doubront is good - he has a curve that was supposedly not a great pitch, and broke it out against the Rays- it was really good.

I didn't know Texas was throwing a LHP so Tito elected to hit Wakefield instead of Papi at DH ;)

"as for the ellsbury situation, i just hope the sox don't sign any long term CF'ers. i have a prospect boner for reymond fuentes. " I forgot about him, although he's in single A and not exactly lighting it up there with a .497 OPS... Kalish however - he is close.

Brad - the zone/out of zone swing rates and contact rates are available at fangraphs... here's for Gardner: http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=9927&position=OF#platediscipline for giggles Ellsbury: http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=4727&position=OF#platediscipline

Paul from Walt...errr I mean Rob YF, or A, or whatever -- using radio talk shows to base any kind of argument on is just wrong.

I can see the sox trading Ellsbury before the deadline for a proven talent. After all crawford and Werth are both FA in the winter, need to make room!

maybe his speed already shows up in the OPS (beating out infield hits, singles to doubles, etc). so his speed isn't independent of the OPS. Can instincts really be improved on in the majors? I mean by the time a player is in the show, he's what he is.

"Ellsbury still has enormous potential" I don't see it. His speed makes up for a lack of instincts in the outfield, and he's a middle of the road OBP guy without allot of power.

I guess we'll talk about next year during hot stove (although right now I could see a move with Ellsbury to KC for DeJesus) :) I suppose it comes down to depth - Youk is an elite hitter, and when injured Tito can't arrange the line-up mid-game so it's a bit unfair to point at that one game.

line-up "protection" has proved to be not so true (exception of course, if it's not a major league talent hitting behind you - like Niuman). The sox offense is just fine - they need to get some relief help, and figure out what's going on with Lackey.

Rob YF leaves out that 83 AB is statistically irrelevant, so his argument is flawed. I do believe he'll get a renogtiated 2 or 3 year deal for about the same as the option would have cost for one year.

The Rangers just got allot better - apparently Lee/Lowe (reliver) to the Rangers for like 4 players including Smoake.

RE: Papo - I don't think they pick it up, I think they may negotiate another longer deal with lower AAV. DHs aren't getting paid huge $$ right now. Can I also say - if Ben Zobrist was on the sox, I would love it, but I really can't stand the guy playing against the sox.

I wonder if KC would trade DeJesus straight up for Ellsbury.

is the "get off my lawn" voice different than the "get off my mound" voice? I like the league differences - but it does put an undo stress on AL pitchers in interleague games. Shoot Lester was thisclose to a grand slam for his first hit (he has an RBI but no hit now). Yes Edgar should be in the HoF - but not Damon!

"I WAS NOT aware that Bill Hall makes freaking 8.5M/year." he had a career year as a Brewer, and they gave him a nice contract. Luckily it's being paid for by them and some by Seattle iirc. I can't believe the number of bone fractures, must be drinking that organic milk withoug the hormones or something.

"We can't all have the lights-out killer offense that the Sox have..." :) that made me laugh...

wow, I checked, was surprised to see the game tied, I figured this pitching matchup would have featured much more Yankees offense. I am not surprised to see AAArdsma give up a homer though.

Cause the M's offense is putrid - and Hughes, even though he hasn't pitched in awhile, is good.
