Love that label.
We did a homebrew with a Hawaiian hula dancer on the label, an IPA that we named "Kamanawannalaya" pale ale.
It's all about the fun. And the beer.
Mostly the fun, though. Of drinking the beer.
The Poet and the Painter casting shadows on the water
Beer stuff! I wanted to make Jaime Paglia an oatmeal stout, because that's his favorite. When I went to the shop to get supplies, though, Greg (who owns it) told me that you really have to do a partial mash or all-grain to get it just right. I'm not quite ready for that, yet, so I went with my b...
I've never understood how people can consistently be dicks to those around them. It's so easy and rewarding to just be kind.
Thank you for continuing to do so.
"There’s only one rule that I know of, babies: Goddamn it, you’ve got to be kind."
The list of Stuff I Need to Write About just keeps getting bigger and bigger ... so instead of trying to tackle it right now, I give you this, from my Twittersbox a little bit ago: When you're fortunate enough to have success and love what you do, you have a choice: Be kind and grateful, or be ...

This came into my mind recently: When viewed from the sky, the sprawling neighborhoods that make Los Angeles are a series of small grids, linked by freeways and divided by boulevards into larger grids. When you fly into Los Angeles at night, it's like looking at a circuit board, traffic flowing...
So awesome that you had such a good time. I'm also glad you share this with us, spilling a bit of your con glamor on us.
Welcome back to the States!
FedCon Day 4
I don't drink at cons. I mean, I'll have a beer or maybe a glass of wine with dinner, but I don't go out drinking the way young people go out drinking, even though I usually see people I love and it would be a lot of fun to go out to a pub for some pints. I figure that I'm already pushing my bod...
Absolutely true, even though they claim they trump that right with their "administrative search". Somebody needs to get this high enough in the courts that the Constitution is re-applied to the situation.
I don't feel safe. I feel violated, humiliated, and angry.
Yesterday, I was touched -- in my opinion, inappropriately -- by a TSA agent at LAX. I'm not going to talk about it in detail until I can speak with an attorney, but I've spent much of the last 24 hours replaying it over and over in my mind, and though some of the initial outrage has faded, I st...
Thank you, Wil, for shining a light on this. We should all contact our congresspeople and make them understand that we are done with this security theater.
I have a humorous yet poignant entry of my own on this, would it be rude to link it here in your comments?

I understand and empathize completely. We had a party some nights ago, and one of our friends started playing Green Grass and High Tides, playing guitar. On medium. I nearly had a stroke just hearing it, and threatened to wrap the guitar controller around his forehead next time.
That song is the fru-eet of the deveeel!
From the Vault: see this place where stories all ring true
This morning, while driving around town, Anne and I heard Green Grass and High Tides on the radio. It was part of a set of songs with "green" in the title, on account of it being St. Patrick's Day. It's a stretch, but any excuse to play a great song on the radio -- especially a song that's nearl...
I'm keeping that. Brilliant!
#whiskyface is proof that the fsm loves us and wants us to be happy
Last night, my friends and I had a whisky tasting. As we neared the end, we were all feeling pretty happy … so I grabbed my silver sharpie and drew this, which I called #whiskyface. It’s not as funny now as it was after several wee drams of scotch, but I think it's still worth sharing. Preempt...
Another really good one for those who like a strong peat with a smooth finish is Isle of Jura's Prophecy. It is quite lovely indeed.

Laprhoaig is very peaty, while Lagavulin tends to have a lot of oakwood smoke in its flavor.

Couldn't agree more. I review scotches every now and then on the blog, it gives me an excuse to have more. ;)
Anne gets bonus points for loving Laphroaig, that's about the peatiest of the peat!

Just one more reason you win, Wil. I'll toast to your health with a glass of Oban tonight. Because this is just a great excuse to drink scotch. I don't have a problem. :)
this is for @thebloggess
You're a tease, HWheaton! I want to read it, and yet I cannot! You really are evil, aren't you? ;)
Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Earlier this week, I was talking with my friend Amy Berg, who is one hell of a writer (she's an Executive Producer on Eureka, and created Cha0s when she wrote for Leverage). Amy's been encouraging me to write fiction for years, even when I regularly responded with statements like "I can't" or "I...
Comedic games like that can be so much fun. Reminds me of the epic adventures of Stillthought the barbarian. (Every time our DM asked him for his character name, he said "I'm still thinkin'")
In which we play Cal & D.
Saturday morning, I drove over to my friend Cal's house for D&D. Our friend Steve was already there, and our friend Martin was on his way to meet us. While we waited for Martin to show up, we caught up on our lives, told stupid (and not-so-stupid) jokes, and got ready for the game. "Hey, I broug...
The library was a favorite destination of mine as a child, and as a teenager. One of the people who first inspired me, the librarian. She was a wonderful, friendly woman who always had a suggestion for me on new reading material. And she never talked down to me, just to me. I miss her.
librarians are awesome
I was recently invited to participate in an awesome literacy project, and I wanted to share an excerpt from my contribution: I want to take a moment and say thank you to librarians, because it was a librarian who made me fall in love with reading. In third or fourth grade, part of our curriculu...
Sounds like it'll be a good time all the way around. :)
"In fact, I've never seen her this excited for me to go play D&D."
In my keynote to PAX East last year, I said that gaming is the foundation of, and the mortar that holds together, the strongest and longest lasting friendships in my life. I've been playing with the same guys since high school, and even though we all live in different states (and some of us live...
I pick on Wifefish about this all the time. She's on facebook, she's tweeting and texting...and I just want to talk on the phone...it's quicker.
technology makes you stupid
It's been over 80 for the last few days, and I'm going up to Portland for the rest of this week to see my sister, so I took advantage of the warm weather and went for a run yesterday afternoon. My brain quickly tuned out and started working on this story I'm about to publish, so my feet went the...
Almost perfect. Would have been better if it had read "I poured myself a glass of Oban...", now wouldn't it?
a nice walk about
It is unseasonably warm here (you're welcome, Southern California; I brought the weather from JoCoCruseCrazy home with me) so project Get Outside And Exercise A Little Bit Every Day has been easier than it was in December. Yesterday, I took Seamus with me on my walk. The Western sky was beginnin...
2) I posted too quickly. (not what Act 2 was going to be, but it is what it is)
and 3) This is all the better due to last night's D&D game, in which during the epic climax fight, the DM and I dramatically hummed this music in stereo...
in which i make shopping fun
Shopping sucks, so some of us do what we must ... because we can.
A comment in three Acts:
Act 1) Best EVER.

Sounds like a magical evening indeed. Those are too few and too far between, and I wish I'd been able to see the sights last night. Sadly, snow clouds stood between me and the cosmos. But at least there were billions and billions of snowflakes.
starry starry night
I stayed up until almost one this morning, reading comic books. I know, it's like I'm 12 all over again. And it's awesome. Around four, Anne woke me up. "What's wrong?" I said, while I was still waiting to clear immigration between Dreamland and Reality. "Nothing. I just couldn't sleep, so I got...
Tawabbawho? It just proves that Instant Awesome is, in fact, possible.
what is this i don't even
Apparently, a challenge was issued on EN World that went something like this: I see your Betty White, your Bea Arthur, and Estelle Getty and Rue McClanahan, and I raise you ALL of them playing D&D with Wil Wheaton in the middle of an iconic D&D bar fight, framed in bacon… Even though I haven...
May there be much breaking of leg in the audition! I love meaty roles like that...cavorting in the mental playground of a villain can be an absolute blast.
...clawing at the ceiling of his grave...
All this week, I'm recording the audio version of John Scalzi's The Android's Dream. It's a delightful book, with wonderful characters, smart dialog, and some of the most enjoyable side trips into world building I've ever read in a SF novel. Also, it's really, really funny. Tomorrow, I'm going i...
In the interest of following Wheaton's law, I must edit a sentence here.
I meant Thanks for exposing us TO THIS VIDEO.

Everything about this is just beautiful. I highly recommend watching it full screen, but for the lazy or whatever, here's an embed: (via Geekosystem)
Wil,
What a great share. This is really quite hawesome. Thanks for exposing us! Umm...I mean...
