I had a guitar that was basically a toy that I bought from a pawn shop for something like $20. It was the coolest guitar I've ever owned but it fell apart when I tried to get it in tune properly.

That is a really good point. A very good point indeed. Because a tuner seems to be the clincher in most cases between a passable and bad cover.
