Helped plant a church in San Diego 15 years ago. Church grew quickly in first couple of years, then has slowly dwindled since. Hispanic church in border region is very challenging demographic. Retention is a problem. It doesn't help that American culture and Christianity seem to be divorcing pandemically. We've tried almost every strategy under the sun without sacrificing our basic vision, yet we can't seem to shut the back door. (Yes, I'm venting.) That barista position is looking mighty attractive right now. The only thing we're going on right now is what Tommy Barnett said once: "Don't quit. It's ok to WANT to quit, but don't quit." If there's anything to this Christianity thing, if the Bible means anything at all, and if the Holy Spirit is truly the Parakletos, at some point this thing has to take hold and actually grow.
