My son (he turned 14 today!) and I have a must-see date with the computer whenever a new Tabletop is posted. We've gone from playing a "big brand" game every few months to playing Tabletop games (and other indie games) every day...even if we only have time for a round of Zombie Dice.
The BIG thing is that this past Saturday night we gathered the family (grammie, sister, brother in law) together for a game night for son's birthday. My sister and I, who barely speak, were laughing and joking together over several games. For this, Wil, I thank you.
For us, and I suspect for a lot of fans, it's *not* about getting every rule correct, it's about spending time together with various people, bonding and sharing something in common while having geeky fun.
In which we play Munchkin on Tabletop with Steve Jackson
If you've been reading my blog for a few years, you may remember when I played Munchkin with my kids in 2008: I'm going to speak in geek to people who have played Munchkin: Neither of the kids would help me, and I kept getting the Truly Obnoxious Curse, so I was having a hard time gaining level...
Wil, you look like a hummingbird. Does this mean you have to drink half your weight (in your case, homebrew) each day?
btw...SCORE on the ThinkGeek knifeblock!
something stirs and something tries and starts to climb toward the light
I worked on [REDACTED] today, and had more fun than I thought possible. I can't say anything more until July. Tomorrow, I work on [REDACTED], which is different from [REDACTED], but should be really awesome, too. I can't believe I get to spend two days working with [ACTORS]. (It was a lot easier...
Oops...forgot to mention that the Guild is an appointment show, but didn't include it because it's watched on the Xbox, not the TV. Just wanted to mention that!!
Eureka: Up In The Air
Last night's episode of Eureka, Up In The Air, has my favorite moment of the entire season in it. I don't think it played as clearly in the edit as it read in the script, but it's when Carter gets so incredibly excited for a traditional bank robbery investigation, and then finds out from Andy th...
There aren't a lot of shows that I keep up with, much less shows in which I make an appointment to watch. Doctor Who is the big one. Big Bang Theory is the other. But, like others, I wandered over to Eureka because you and Felicia were on it. Wow!! It's freakin' hilarious!! I particularly loved this episode, and it got several belly laughs from me and my son--the type of laughs that are usually reserved for BBT and DW. You're doing great things with Parrish. And wow...I tip my hat to Colin's physical comedy and girl screams.
And I haven't read all the comments here, but at the end of the episode, did anyone else yell out "A flesh avatar...like Doctor Who!!" Seriously. I'm expecting Madam Kavorian and her eyepatch to start opening little hatch doors next week.
Great job Wil!! I'm also really enjoying these behind the scenes posts by you. :)

Caches? Wil, you're into geocaching? Didn't know that...awesome!
Spock is not impressed that it's my birthday
During w00tstock last week, I mentioned that I was turning 38 this week. After the show, Anne told me that I was, in fact, turning 39. In the few seconds that it took me to do some math, I lost a year of my life. Apparently, this is the sort of thing that happens when you get to be my age, which...
Wil,
I can tell you that once we hit the 40's, geeks like us seem to go through a second (or third or fifth or elebenty) childhood. It's awesome. Instead of acting like we're 12 once in a while, it happens almost constantly. Except without the stupid decision making and restrictions that usually come with 12. Imagine a world where you can get away with responsibly acting like a kid....and that's what awaits you when you're 40. Of course, that's probably just a normal Tuesday for you. :)
Happy Birthday!!

Wil, one of my cats does the same type of thing, except he waits until I'm sitting at the computer and writing. It's hard to let your imagination soar when your nose suddenly tells you you're in a sewage facility, isn't it? To add another spin to the tale, a few months ago we switched to that fancy litter made out of wheat. Cat pee makes wheat smell weird! The young'n tells me that the scent has made him lose his appetite for bread.
this is really gross. you have been warned.
There is a tree near my house, that has probably been there for years, just doing its tree thing, watching patiently as families come and go, empires rise and fall, and Isengard is flooded. I'm sure it's a beautiful tree, cheerfully trading carbon dioxide for oxygen, providing shade, and most li...
