What am I going to do with all of these "Comet" t-shirts and keychains? I'm ruined. I like the name. Plus it makes my url short. I should have registered chicken.vox.com. When I do get invites, I'm going to try and get my mom and sisters on here. No more...

I need a bookmarklet to post to Vox. Or the API open so I can get my d.e.l.i.c.iou.s links into Vox. I wrote about my new Vox Luv. I think I'm over the idea of being able to edit my HTML. It's really not that important. This editor works fine,...

After almost a whole month of using [MacVim](http://code.google.com/p/macvim/), I think I can safely say I’m a convert. Whenever I felt I was getting really good with it, I’d switch over to [SublimeText](http://www.sublimetext.com/) and realize I was still much better at...

Stop using ‘we’ at standup meetings. Don’t say “We need to stop skipping tests”. Directly address the people that need to change; if this seems too confrontational for your meetings, do it in private via swanson.github.com

I've been using this biscuit prototype for years now. While doing the crossword with Matt Jones earlier today he encouraged me to socialise the idea on the web. You take a biscuit with a chocolate coating. Using your mouth make...

Not to incite a stan war or anything (HAHA, I WOULD LOVE THAT), but the practice of female singers being asked to comment on their peers (or taking it upon themselves to do so) is endlessly fascinating. (Is it sexist...

Director: [in Japanese] Mr. Bob-san, you are relaxing in your study. On the table is a bottle of Suntory whiskey. Got it? Look slowly, with feeling, at the camera, and say it gently - say it as if you were speaking to an old friend. Just like Bogie in Casablanca, "Here's looking at you, kid" - Suntory time. Translator: Umm. He want you to turn, looking at camera. OK? Bob: That's all he said? Translator: Yes. Turn to camera. Bob: All right. Does he want me to turn from the right, or turn from the left? Translator: [to director, in...

I'm doing a very brave or a very stupid thing, depending on how you look at it. I am moving to an expensive city without full-time employment lined up. Scary, risky and, well, unvoidable at this point. I'm signed up...

A few things rendered quickly quickly, in hope that discharging them will clear the way for something a little more coherent, extended, and even amusing: (a) Do you know what makes a great icebreaker when you are visiting a friend of a friend you have never met before? Arriving at their doorstep with a child covered in carsickness vomit. Truly! Suddenly everyone has a shared project with genuine, smalltalk-bypassing urgency but no actual danger or illness. Quick! Towels, water, an amusingly giant garment to serve as a change of clothes! By the time it's all sorted out no one is...

Blog: Tiny Iron Fists
And like that, we ventured into the night -- skeletons, owls, bear cubs, fairies, firemen, ladybugs and their adventure-seeking parents. Toc, toc, toc. The kids stood anxiously waiting for homeowners to open up their doors. As doors swung open, the costumed-crusaders rocked side-to-side, waiting for the exact moment to yell, "Trick or treat!" or in Lulu's case, sometimes, "I want candy!" Baskets of sugar were lowered and the kids grabbed and dashed. Yelping a quick "merci" or "thank you" the children happily skipped to the next sweet-treat giving home. We repeated this scenario for approximately four blocks over an hour...

Let's get serious: Is is possible to appreciate a vintage pin-up for its style while still holding onto a sense of modern day respect for women?

This week we draw inspiration from the pin-up, those glamorous (and idealized) illustrations and photographs of ladies who served as a morale builder in times of crisis (or boredom).

The Facts Fabric: Vintage 1940s/1950s seersucker, $25 Pattern: McCall's 6311 $.99 Year: c. 2011 Notions: zipper Time to complete: 2 hours First worn: November 2011 Wear again? Yes! Total Cost: ~$25.99 When I think about "pin-ups" I think about the iconic image of Betty Grable peeking over her shoulder. It's fairly modest and certainly not the scandalous sort of photo that I'd be too embarrassed to reproduce for The Sew Weekly. I'm a pretty modest person (being a mom does it to me, I think) so I wasn't too interested in giving the internet at large too much of ......
