Kolbanus, Normally growth is measured buy new business + (existing business-lost business). That growth is then measured as a percent increase or decrease of a previous period. But what if you measured it against potential- New Business + existing business + lost business how different would things look. Focusing on Retention can bring you closer to your true growth potential.

For a lot of clients we actually map out new business gained, recurring business and business lost. Most companies look at growth year over year, the real measure is comparing actual business written to this formula-lost customers sales+new customers sales+recurring customers sales. The results are usually an eye opener.

Thanks Monika, I appreciate the comment. The quagmire is do you use a social site that is may function better or one that has more users. Unfortunately the latter is true if you are looking to build your brand online and have a return on your social marketing investment.
