We could have had some of these on Wills Ridge in Floyd, if we had just gone with the flow and decided to be green at all cost. Fortunately, wiser heads prevailed and we can observe what others have done. Wind turbines may play a part in our future, but more work has to be done before they can be considered environmentally safe or economically sensible. To see more images:... Continue reading
I started this blog in 2003, with the encouragement of Fred First, whose Fragments from Floyd blog finally inspired me to move to this part of Virginia. After years of commenting endlessly on other blogs, I decided it was time to start some ripples of my own. I had already considered that blogging might be the equivalent of writing in the sandy margin of the sea, but I feltl the... Continue reading
Barack Obama has won the Presidential election with a 1.7% margin of the popular vote. That makes for an evenly divided country with the cities being Democratic and the rural areas being Republican. We may see gridlock on a continuing basis with a Republican House and a Democratic Senate and Executive Branch, but Obama now has the chance to stack the Supreme Court with Liberal judges, so his plans for... [Reposted from PJ Media http://tinyurl.com/c8v2eph] I only say it is boring because we have been subjected to this unbelievable outrage for almost four years: • $6 trillion in new national debt under Obama…after he promised to decrease the deficit. • Obamacare — A massive and incredibly convoluted bill which exponentially increases the federal government’s control over our personal lives…which neither Obama nor a single Democrat even read before passing, and... In the beginning, we are impressed by his manner and his ability to say what we want to hear. Ultimately, however, we have to live with what he produces. Here is what we have from the last four years of Obama leadership: For every person added to the Job Rolls since January 2009, 75 people were added to Food Stamp rolls. Continue reading

Last night's debate between President Obama and Mitt Romney was claimed as a victory by both sides. Candy Crowley was supportive of Obama as expected and gave him additional time, but both candidates had a chance to show their degree of preparedness. "Fact checkers" on both sides had a wonderful time pointing out errors made by the candidate on the other side. Fortunately, there were running transcripts of the remarks... Continue reading
Those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it. Germany has gone further down the "renewables" path than any other country and now it's paying the price. Back-up fossil-fuel plants must run constantly and inefficiently to pick up the slightest slack in wind power. Unfortunately for us all. he wasn't that good at on-the-job-training. We knew he had held no executive positions before becoming President, but even those of us who opposed his election hoped that he would be a quick study. He is cunning, but not wise; facile, but not well-schooled; and he shows little sense of the maturity that we hope for in a leader. All of his skills seem to be directed at preserving his self image. Other than showing us how modern royalty would like to live, he and Michelle have contributed little to our cultural heritage or national pride.
Reposted from: The Hip-Hop President: All Swag, No Cattle by Michelle Malkin September 14, 2012 09:14 AM The third and fourth victims of the blood-boiling Benghazi jihadi attack have been identified. Americans Tyrone (Ty) Woods and Glen Doherty were former Navy SEALS who worked as private security contractors. It’s also now been confirmed that the attack was an elaborate, two-part planned operation — timed to 9/11 with the stupid movie... Continue reading

Reposted from Breitbart News. Email Article Print Article Send a Tip by Joel B. Pollak 13 Aug 2012 No, wait--seriously? Did the Obama campaign just tweet an Associated Press article about how a guy who owns a juice store that Mitt Romney visited in Miami was once convicted of dealing cocaine, 13 years ago? Does Barack Obama, who admitted he once had a cocaine habit (has any journalist asked if... Continue reading

The USHCN is one of the main metrics used to gauge the temperature changes in the United States. The first wide scale effort to address siting issues, Watts, (2009), a collated photographic survey, showed that approximately 90% of USHCN stations were compromised by encroachment of urbanity in the form of heat sinks and sources, such as concrete, asphalt, air conditioning system heat exchangers, roadways, airport tarmac, and other issues. This... Continue reading

The global warming scare has been a gold mine for politically-inclined academics and it has spawned a new industry: Taxpayer funded bankruptcies like Solyndra and Abound Solar. Unfortunately, the facts fail to support the scary claims: http://tinyurl.com/c4dke2g Continue reading
I have been carefully following the advice of doctors and specialists ever since my heart attack of several years ago, but each year seemed to bring additional medications which I needed to take to handle various physical conditions which appeared to be age-related. As the number of specialists and medications increased, I began noticing a trend. Whatever I was trying to handle got reduced to an acceptable level, but my... Continue reading

I was helping a friend last night with the planning for a family business that would utilize their skills and give them the freedom to travel and would leave them financially set when they were ready to retire. Keep your eye on the actions of the EPA. This organization is seriously out of control. Obama’s America: EPA Officials Visit Man For Sending Email On May 24, 2012, in big government, by TWB About a month ago, EPA regional official Al Armendariz made news when a YouTube video of him describing the way the agency handles oil and gas companies surfaced. In it, Armendariz said an analogy he liked... Continue reading

A burning Chevy Volt lighting up the landscape illustrates some of the dificulties in achieving an all-green sustainable lifestyle. The path of development has never run smoothly and that is why pioneers get used to scoffers pointing out design flaws. Creating a green economy with green technology is not all that different from the creation of a digital economy in the years following the Second World War. Early digital computers... In his drive to emulate the success of past tyrannies, Obama has resurrected the concept of an official snitch squad and has created AttackWatch.com where loyal citizens can report on their neighbors who resist the Great Leap Forward to complete government control. Progressives no longer have to suffer in silence as their neighbors snicker about progressive dreams of an oncoming utopia in which all will receive rewards according to their... Continue reading

This week, Fox News ran a story by John Stossel called Stupid in America. This graph shows what many of you have suspected all along. that the US education system is broken. The price of education has tripled in the last 40 years, but the test scores have barely changed. You can see that the increased spending has produced no change in standardized test scores. An abbreviated video of John... Continue reading
