What a lovely poem! Thanks for sharing.
Heart Opening...
I open my heart, tipping out the contents, give it a good shake-- like a jewel box. Out tumble the treasures of my life. Love, old and new family, friends, even strangers-- deep encounters, brief encounters... New stories, old stories, dead stories, fragments-- shards shining like futur...
I just got back from a week at a beach house in Pentwater, MI and it was wonderful in every way...both relaxing and refreshing. Hope you have a great time!

Counting down the last few days before we leave for Michigan...my favorite vacation. And why, you may ask, is this my favorite vacation? How does a house on the lake, sandy beaches, shopping in Holland, reading, knitting, napping, biking and walking the beach sound? What about limited cell p...
What a wonderful dress...it looks great. I really like the fabric you chose...it reminds my of a dress I had back in the day!

Today, I made a maxi dress. And it is my favorite dress of the summer so far. Perfect for Friday night porch dinner and lounging around on the patio. The dress is made from McCall's 6073. I used a stash knit from Joann's, and really made it straight from the pattern. This is an easypeasy dres...
What a cozy, welcoming guest room! You are so creative and I admire that you follow through on your ideas.

What a weekend. It was sort of one of those perfect kind of weekends, when there were not too many commitments, a good dose of family, visits with friends, and some time to garden, sew, work on projects, and relax. One of the big projects I finished was a summer mini-makeover of the guest room....
What cute chickies!!! When I first looked at "Quintet" I wasn't sure that I liked it, but looking again, I think it looks like a very comfortable sweater and I like your plan to stick with one color. Have fun knitting!

Today, I'll share some knitting. I've had this overwhelming compulsion lately to knit little animals. I don't know why...maybe because they are small, cute and a knitting challenge in a wee little package. (Purl Bee Fuzzy Easter Chick) (Jess Hutchinson Bear from "Unusual Toys for you ...
Wow! That looks fantastic! You did a great job and it looks like it is very comfortable to wear.

Okay, this has to be one of my favorite, favorite outer garments I've ever had. Probably because I had actual birthpains getting it complete..what with trying to figure out how to customize it without a pattern or instructions for all the details. And the buttonholes. Don't forget the buttonh...
I don't minds sewing button holes, but I dread zippers. How about if you sew my zippers and I'll sew your button holes?
Your bags look lovely!

There is little that frightens me more than making buttonholes. I got up on a twenty foot ladder to paint the house. Surgery doesn't scare me. I have ridden roller coasters...that go upside down. But buttonholes? Oh, yes...the projects of doom. I freeze up! I tremble! I will have a garment c...
Ha! I remember when my nephew (who is now 20) was in 2nd grade and he told his teacher I would make three vegetable costumes. The problem was that he didn't tell me until two days before the play. My Dad helped me come up with the idea for the costumes and helped me create them. It is one of my fondest memories of my Dad. I still tease my nephew about this incident. Good luck with your "booby" costume!

Oh, my GOSH! My house smells so delicious right now! I can't even stand it. Tomorrow is our Thanksgiving dinner ( talk about complications of holiday schedules when families grow, and are compounded and complicated by any number of things that can compound even complicate a modern family!) and I...

There are some days that I think God just decides to show off , like He's saying, "Look what I can do!" Thanks for that, God.
Wow!!! Your coat is so cute! You look great and the pink lining really makes the coat special. Have fun!

Some things are just thrown together, and other things are a labor of love. Burda 8262 Let's see, where to start sharing details? Every coat piece had to be cut individually and finished as I was putting the coat together. The fabric was very, very ravelly so I would say that this step at lea...
Apples are good for you, so one of each wouldn't hurt! I love everything about fall, especially the food! I made pumpkin chocolate chip muffins over the weekend and they were gone by this morning!
Fall in these parts tends to bring on a more...
Fall in these parts tends to bring on a more contemplative mood...reflecting on life, thinking on how to prepare our bodies, minds and houses for winter ahead. We begin our nesting, and our to-do lists, we have our first fire in the fireplace and we start baking...it is, after all, apple s...
It sounds like you had a lovely fall get away! I lived in NYS until four years ago and I miss how lovely the fall is there. It is nice in IL, but we don't get much color here. The nice thing about IL is that we hardly get any snow and the winters are quite mild and shorter than in NY.
We had the good fortune of being able to get away...
We had the good fortune of being able to get away for a few days, and as these things go, the timing is always spot on. And the added blessing? We were able to use a friend's cottage on a lake...no television, lots of Scrabble and sightseeing. It was a perfect little get away...even with the ra...
I love, love, love your sweater!!! Simply perfect!

Isn't it the best feeling ever to finishsomething? Today, I finished "The Mennonite in a Little Black Dress" by Rhoda Janzen It's a wonderful, sensitive, very funny memoir about growing up and growing out of being Mennonite. But trust me, Mennonite or not, accurate memoir or not, we can all ...
I love what you did with the vest! My sewing, gardening and craft time has been very limited due to my new puppy. I got her from a rescue shelter and she is teething, so I am busy! She really goes for the tunic I am knitting for my niece!

It is surely a great calamity for a human being to have no obsessions. Robert Bly My latest obsession? A vest. A big warm, vest. Last week, while browsing at the Salvation Army after dropping off some things, I came across this jacket. Corduroy, with a sherpa lining that is as thick as a b...
There is not much flour in this recipe. I have made the Meyer Lemon Cake from the Victoria March/April 2009 issue. It makes two pound cakes and is delicious.
Zesty!
We had the most marvelous evening with friends last night. So much needed that even as we were walking from the car to their front door, I was already giggling -- even BEFORE I had the wine -- and I daresay I have not giggled in a few days. We opened the bottle of the Little Black Dress wine tha...
I think the raspberry would be a great choice for the cape and your coat is going to be lovely! I really like that cape pattern and now I'm thinking about making one.

While I did think long and hard about using red for my coat lining, once I saw this amazing hot pink, I couldn't resist the idea of such a lively, razzle-dazzle secret under that traditional hounds-tooth exterior....like a wonderment waiting to happen. Like a flash of wow or a c...
It sounds like you are enjoying these late summer evenings. You did a nice job on the cushion cover...it looks great.

We've been sitting on the porch almost every night, playing scrabble and complaining about the neighbors' dogs. For quite some time, I've taken a moratorium against Scrabble competitions with my husband since he had the decisive edge over me. I'm a smart girl, and I love a good game challa...
I enjoyed your first book and am looking forward to your new one. The projects look great. Congratulations!

Hey Stitching Friends . . . Exciting news! It is finally time to tell you about my new Indie book. It's called, EMBROIDERY CRAFT:: Stitching Through the Seasons, and it has just been published. Signed copies will be available (from me) after September 1st, but the book can be purchased now f...
I recently made some sandwich bags for my 12 year old niece who is concerned about the environment. I never thought a kid would be excited about sandwich bags!
I've been making my husband's lunch every day....
I've been making my husband's lunch every day. Yes, he knows how to make a sandwich, buy mine always taste better ( he says) And I always add a little surprise in his lunch, which he would never do, because then it wouldn't be a surprise. So, having run out of plastic sandwich bags, I flat o...
I'm so glad that you are doing okay. Muddling is good and I do a lot of it. I love reading your blog because you are so creative and are an inspiration to me. I'm in my 50's and had almost given up on sewing for myself, but you inspired me to start sewing clothes for myself again and it really has been fun. No matter what you decide about your blog, I wish you well and I want to thank you for all that you have shared.

I love the word muddle. Which is what I'm trying to do with this blog...muddle through. In haste, I deleted five years of blog posts, which carried with it so many memories and photos of the past five years. Thankfully, my friends on the Typepad team were able to restore the posts and photos, wh...
