Bonjour, Hello, I was appalled when I read the first sentence "Fossilization and interlanguage are examples of language teaching jargon". As a linguist ( a real one, not the "linguist" knowing 1 000 words a day of a foreign language!), it is not only a concept (please don't use "jargon" here!), that explains a lot when people are in the process of acquiring / learning a new language. And as a French as a foreign language teacher (to students from all around the world and now to member of our governement here in Canada), when we do know about this, when the student know these concepts, they are aware that the brain can play "games" with our natural capacity / ability to learn languages. When we know about something, maybe we can do something about it. For instance, I know that English is not my native tongue, I know that I might be "in between " two worlds" the interlanguage" I lnow that if I am not corrcted, I will fossilize structures and I will NOT speak English correctly. I don't want to be a dictionnary, , trying to overload my neurones with wthis competition of knowing 1 000 000 000 words a month . NO. I want to speak a language and speak it with the nuances that defines the "target language" oops another term "jargon". Sorry .,.,.,.,.,., and Steve, would you write something in French. Here we all write in your language, English, would be nice to be able to express our deep feelings in our native tongue (some translation) I respect the fact that we all here speak different languages. Merci
