OMG...day 12? I am only on day 4 and I feel awful. I love your photos. It looks gorgeous!
One Lovely Harstine Day, Still Feeling Punk, and Another Odd Thing
John took Friday off, but we didn’t head to Harstine immediately; he first made a bonzai run down to Chehalis to check out/purchase a drum sander listed on Craigslist for his woodworking shop. It’s pretty much a big honkin’ thing so he brought it home to unload before REloading the Durango for H...

funny pictures, done for a friend...
A friend of Ross's asked me to do this for 'someone's' birthday. Oregonians may recognize him as a local person-of-interest. I'll say no more...
What a lot of fun. I have to admit that I have never thrown a graduation party of any sort for any of my kids. You're making me fell guilty...
The Calm Before The Storm
Dudettes! I am so tired! Getting ready for MM's graduation party and a wicked week at work. But - look! The sun and blue skies for the first time since last Sunday!! Woo hoo! Just in time for the tent to be delivered so we don't have water dripping on the tables. We've cleaned out the rooms, mad...
I helped carry the stuff from the dorm room to the car, and then from the car into the kitchen, but Ross is going to have to do the rest. Glad he's home, though.
summer haircut...
Cookie got shaved today. She had so much hair that she was always overheating on walks. Given her fear of human beings, especially if those human beings touch her, we were afraid that she might have a psychotic break. But she sailed right through it. Apparently, she is tougher than she lets ...
I miss lots of the old magazines, too. I have every single issue of Mary Englebreit's, btw. I just got my Oprah magazine today, which I still love. I only read People when I go on airplanes (the better to distract me). I get a couple of Photography magazines. And I get National Geographic Traveler, which is great for dreaming of travel.
I Have Issues
It really is a wonder that any print journalism is able to stay afloat these days. I realized this week that I no longer rush to the mailbox at the beginning of the month to wait for "my magazines". First off, most of my magazines went belly up this year (Country Home, Mary Engelbreit's Home Com...
My garden is so lovely right now but is making my nose all stuffy. I am terribly allergic.
This Is Where I Am If You Need Me
Popping in from here: Where I am supposed to be doing this: To tell you that this Is blooming.
Looks like the graduation was wonderful. Last year when Bonnie graduated from Colgate, we all got soaked! Congrats!
Mille Grazie!
Thank you all for your kindness and warm wishes. Who is sweeter than my internets? Your comments brought such cheer to our week! And made us feel as though you all stopped by for a graduation party. A lovelier time could not be had!
I don't know if I should be happy for you and sad for your kid. No one likes to be sick, right? But glad that you could get more time off. And it is such a joy to be with the kids. I miss it.
What a Treat!
The Teen is still sick! What a treat! I get to be home another day! Seriously, good moms should not be happy when their kid is sick and they have to stay home with them. Ergo, I am a bad mom. If only I had thought of that moniker sooner, I, too, could be on book tour like Ayelat Waldman. ...
I just love your antique books in your new banner!

sounds like an absolutely marvelous time you had!
This and That and More
I didn't mean to be gone so long, y'all. Busy work week and what with midweek travel, no time for blogging. Let me just tell you, though, that I have been DYING, DYING I tell ya to write up my Blackbird day. BB (I call her that now cause we're tight), BB and I met way back in maybe, oh, 2005 ...
We have had family staying here for the past three days, and tonight we get another guest for the rest of the week. It is fun but also stressful. I think I am just getting really old.
Freakin' Friday
Feeling Crabby? Lost the wind out of your sails? And your sails? Well, it's Friday, so get out there and do your thang! Go Find Yourself!
Sounds like you had a fantastic time. It's so hard to go back to real life, I know. Hope the new week isn't awful...
Monday Morning Rain Is Falling
By now, the Easter baskets have been ravaged, the older kids have gone back to school and jobs, and Mr. Pom and I have reentered the work-a day world. I feel saddest that the dogs had to go back to their doggie day care and dog walker weekdays instead of three times a day outings to the be...
I like your attitude (and your choice of prints). I think spaces need to personal and pretty.
Wednesday Meanderings or I Got Nothing....Much
Not 7:30 p.m. and I am already in bed, eating a sliced chicken on Italian bread toast with mayo sandwich for dinner along with a cup of Earl Grey. Nothing reminds me more of the kitchen I grew up in than eating a chicken sandwich on Italian bread toast. Yum! It was a long work day and I have t...
Thanks, Loretta. It was actually raining when I took this picture. I just put down the car window, pointed, and shot it...amazing that anything decent came out of the shot, but there you go: serendipity!
visiting Mom...
I drove down for a visit with my mom today. The Willamette Valley was especially Dramatic and Stormy, so i snapped a photo (or two). My mom likes to look at my blog and my Facebook pages, so it was fun to hang out, roam the Web, and see her before heading off.
Are you on Facebook? You should 'friend' me...Diane Calhoun, Portland, OR...

That looks like tons of fun.
Art Saves Lives, Vol. 33
Special thanks to all my beautiful students from Art Is!! All new workshops for fall going up next week!!
I did see the movie last year, and I did enjoy it. But I like the book better.
Books of the Week
We are entering into the cruelest seasonal change of the year. The slow crusty slide in fits and starts from winter to spring has none of summer's bittersweet languor into scarlet fall, or fall's frenzied and festive whip up into snowy holiday cheer. The prologue to true spring, at least he...
I know so many people who are sick right now. I hope this passes soon and that you feel better.
Shadow Self
I got ill at my sister's this Sunday. I thought it was overindulging in various junk food items that I normally don't eat, but now it looks like a virus. It is the Weird Disease I get every so often, for which I've had various tests and the only diagnosis is a shrug of the shoulders and a no...
I am always overwhelmed at this time of year with too many gardening choices. I prefer to duck my head into fiction. I am currently just loving Brideshead Revisited.

Did I miss your birthday? Well, Happy Birthday to YOU. And I love the ides of office decoration. Yay for that.
Warm & Fuzzy
Is the way I feel today after birthday greetings from so many friends. I considered taking off the day, but realized that I would rather wait for warm weather and spend the day outside, maybe in the city, with the Cucciolo pretending to be a city dog at some sidewalk cafe. One of our admins love...
I am with you...baguette, coffee, book...life is perfection in that place.
60 degrees AND a new Mac!
First off, internets, it is SIXTY DEGREES! For those of you in more temperate climates and consider posts about weather THE most boring evah, understand that we have endured single digits for more mornings than I can count and in the teens and twenties since Christmas. So, YAY! Unfortunately, ...
Thanks for the kudos on the photos...it was fun and instructive. And YES, if you are in Portland, you need to check this place out. It is amazing.
Nighttime in the Garden...
The Portland Chinese Garden had a free open night. This was the end of their Chinese New Year celebration. I thought to myself that it was a great opportunity to try out nighttime photography. It was gorgeous there. They had these lovely little floating flowers, with a light inside, that th...
I am glad for the warmer weather, too. We have finally warmed up and it has been great. Hope it keeps up.
