While I disagree that there is "no humane way to execute someone," I fully agree that the death penalty should be scrapped except in extraordinary circumstances. In addition to the objections you have expressed, it is enormously costly for the state to conduct defense after defense of the challenges to each capital conviction.
One could make the same argument about gerrymandering on the other side of the aisle, but the Democrats have much better party discipline and whip their bills quite effectively. The issue is the quality of the speaker and leadership as much as anything else.
How would you dole out the hugely inappropriate fines and penalties being levied against JPMorganChase? The WSJ sees them as a vindictive attack on Jamie Dimon for not marching in lockstep with the Obama administration?
My only problem is that I am used to more reasonably priced dim-sum, and am shocked by the bill at this place!

Have you actually read "The Last Ringbearer?" Because if you haven't, don't, and spare yourself a few hours of boredom. I too was excited about this alternate view, until I read the damned thing. Awful.
@DavidSeattle727 No, I was referring to George will's words as the partisan attack. Prof. Bainbridge restricts his partisanship to California Cabernets.
While it is a wonderful sound-bite, I am unsure how he arrived at this conclusion. Palin has many flaws, and I don't understand how many of her fans have elevated her impressive ability to connect with her audience to the the skill and gravitas necessary for a successful presidency. But the leap from her lack of experience and knowledge to the suggestion that she will misuse nuclear weapons is a partisan attack from an inside-the-beltway mainstream Republican. I have seen nothing in her speeches or demeanor that would suggest recklessness with the lives of millions. George Will probably doesn't like her because she wears blue jeans, which he so arrogantly proclaimed "simply isn't done."
Proclaiming the merits of a free market at the same time a judge seems to have ordered the owners to begin the season seems a bit strange. A truly free market would allow the owners to lock out the players!
I was a supporter of an early intervention in Libya, but with the clear, unambiguous goal of deposing Qaddafi (and, hopefully, having him swinging from a lamppost in Tripoli). This could have been done in the early days of the conflict, before the regime regrouped and rearmed. We could have sent A-10s in to destroy armor and artillery, which would have allowed the rebels to enter Tripoli and perhaps end the fighting. But Obama's dithering allowed Qaddafi to gain the upper hand, and for this he should be held accountable. Leadership isn't collation of polls and op-ed pieces until a tipping point is reached!
I don't claim to be a pizza making expert, but I've made a few in my time. I have discovered that a good quality pizza stone, heated to as hot as one's oven can get it, is a pretty good beginning for a good tasting pizza. I just don't see how these folks expect the crust to cook to the desired texture without direct contact with a stone or the deck of a commercial pizza oven.

My guess is that they use the single ordering point as a rate-limiting step. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to maintain the quality of the food. The orders flow into the kitchen at a consistent rate compared to the chaos of actually ordering from a waitress when you are ready.

I think that I live in exactly the wrong part of the state. It seems that it always takes forever to get to Jersey City. But more information on the food and drink scene will help!

I sort of like the bread, so gutting the top is all the manicuring I do. And now I am going to make these for lunch!

Instead of slicing out the middle, try cutting it toward the bottom and then gutting the top. It creates a nice pocket for the meat and cheese and onions, it keeps it nice and neat, and the ratio of meat to bun is correct.

Agreed that real men use paddles. But real men also drive to Hoboken for sandwiches when the only other option is that "sandwich" pictured above. I think that bread is simply Wonder Bread sprayed on the outside with brown food coloring. Or try A&S Fine Foods in Wyckoff for the best deli sandwich around these parts. They use real bread!

We have had similar experiences, and with a similar decision not to return, even though my wife likes the place more than I do, that we have honored. I kept waiting for something that would convince me to return in spite of the horrible bartender (yeah, we had him too) and the $8 draft beer and the bitters-optional Manhattan. But that "thing" never appeared, so they don't get our money anymore. Although, I think my wife has sneaked a visit or two for lunch with friends. It's not that the food is bad, it's that it just isn't anything I couldn't get at a few dozen places, accompanied by a less expensive pint of ale. Can you tell that the beer prices really irritated me? Hopefully they will clean up the service act and move away from the frat-boy vibe in the bar, and then we'll give them another shot.

We took your advice, mostly out of desperation; we haven't had a really good tomato in what seems like many years. And zip-a-dee-doo-dah! They were excellent. We'll be going back until they close up shop for the year. We served them with a buttermilk blue cheese dressing that went really well with the tomatoes. I used a mild blue cheese so that the tomatoes wouldn't be overwhelmed. Good stuff.

The Skinnygirl website claims that a four ounce margarita has over 500 calories. Using the tommyeats recipe, a four ounce margarita has 294 calories. Maybe she uses tequila made from specially fattened agave plants in those 500 calorie margaritas. Or...maybe she is full of it and is just trying to make a buck

Don't do it! You have no idea what this stuff will do to your palate. It could destroy it forever, and then you will be destined for a life of sour mix and Stirrings Simple Syrup.

And a sugar coated vanilla bean! Wow, that is one sweet cocktail. There is no way in hell that I would make that drink. It's too damned expensive. Two ounces of Veuve Clicquot and a vanilla bean? And be honest, how many have you had? Pick a number between zero and one.
