At play time, certain kids tend to become ‘the bosses’. They make up the game and get to decide who does and doesn’t get to play. Day after day (and eventually year after year), the same kids tend to become the bosses, and the same kids end up being excluded. Continue reading

Being healthy is not pointless, and it’s not about avoiding things and hoping to end up "normal" or even just not miserable. Also, being healthy takes a lot of doing, and we would see this more clearly if we actually paid less attention to the word ‘healthy’ and more attention to the word ‘fit’. Continue reading

It seems to me that the kind of snobbery usually (not necessarily fairly) associated with organics is of another variety. The ‘look at that hipster who has an extra buck for organic avocados because he thinks he knows so much better than the rest of us’ variety. Continue reading

Hi, Annie! Thank you for your kind words. Since we don't have a designated graphic artist, I actually make most of the graphics myself! It's mighty tedious work, made enjoyable only by the idea that it all pulls off and someone appreciates them ^_^ Regarding the prizes, it can be a little unclear so don't feel bad. My understanding is that, as you go to the price page, you should enter to win (along with your preferences of what you'd most like to win) here: http://www.5minutesformom.com/ultimate-blog-party-2013-prize-entry-form/ Good luck, and it's such a pleasure to meet you. :-)

Thanks for stopping by, Michael! I'm so glad you had a positive karate influence in your life. Nothing has been more fulfilling to me than teaching karate. And that Ochiai guy looks just fantastic. And likewise, so nice meeting you. We should stay in touch.
Thanks for stopping by, Nicole! Those Little Pickle books are delightful, my Mom particularly likes Sophia's Dream — review forthcoming. How old are your 4 boys?
Thanks for stopping by, Samantha! I've popped over to your site and it is lovely :) I'm really happy we partook in ubp this year!
Thanks for popping by, Kaye! This happens to be my first ever blog post. I hope it's of some value and comfort to all the new 'dear caught in headlights' instructors out there. :)

When I was a child my favorite game was to gather up the neighborhood kids and ‘play school’ (much to my parents' amusement). Lots of kids play school, but my school was serious! It was invitation only, and I only invited the kids who actually needed learning help. Continue reading

Chinese Cinderella and The Secret Dragon Society is a children’s story about a girl who runs away from home to learn kung fu and become a spy. Given this far-fetched premise, you might be surprised to learn that Secret Dragon Society is a relatively mature and historically accurate work. Continue reading

My name is Captain Olimar. While traveling through space, my ship was struck by a meteor... I must have blacked out, and I awoke on the surface of a weird planet. With so many parts lost, the skeletal hull of my beloved Dolphin is a painful sight. The engine is gone... I'm stranded. Continue reading
