It's been a while. Much has changed since I last blogged: my sweet cat has long passed away, I moved from Verslums to a place that is a palace in comparison. I have been choked artistically, so no new artwork. I've returned to blogging just for the sake of doing it. Who knows how long I'll stick around. Sometimes I have wordjams. Nothing can be said. I rock back-n-forth like the mental patient I am, feeling quite distressed. Similar to losing my muse. I'll leave you with a strange and true dream of mine: refrigerators were trying to eat me.... 1. Do write an artist’s statement in the first person. 2. Do keep your “core” statement fairly brief. (150-200 words) 3. Don’t be generic in your assertions—if what you write can be said about most artists or artwork, take it out. 4. Do keep sentence structure concise. Beware of rambling, confusing sentences. 5. Don’t combine two separate ideas in one sentence. Use one sentence for each idea. 6. Don’t keep repeating yourself. 7. Do use active sentence structure (i.e. “I focus on ephemeral moments” not “I enjoy focusing on ephemeral moments.”) 8. Don’t be wishy-washy or dilute the meaning of... Continue reading

I recently discovered Regretsy and discovered a lot more in the process: Etsy is rife with naughty bits. You can find vagina shaped pendants, pillows with penises sprouting out, sexually explicit samplers, and even a wooden buttplug with a ponytail attached. I never dreamed such stuff could be found on Etsy. Obviously I've been using the wrong search words. Continue reading

"Studies on creative people have consistently demonstrated that creativity is associated with openness to new ideas, risk-taking, and being inner-directed. Do these traits put creative people at odds with the culture and people around them? The answer is sometimes yes and sometimes no." An article by Tom Filsinger for Creativity for Life. From the humor book "How to Be a Genius: A Handbook for the Aspiring Smarty-pants" by Andre de Guillaume: 1. Spend as much time as you can thinking 2. Say everything that comes into your head 3. Keep notes on everything 4. Hardly ever finish anything 5. Spend as much time alone as possible This pretty much sums me up. Continue reading

The Free Dictionary: outsider artist "Work produced by artists who do not fit the traditional standards laid down by the dominant art establishments of an era. The power, influence, and position of such establishments enable them to decide what is acceptable as art in society. At various times throughout art history, groups such as women, ethnic minorities, peasants, and the lower classes have been marginalized and considered ‘outsiders’. In today's art world, those labelled as outsiders may include artists who have not received official training, or associated themselves with a recognized art system." The Coming In of Outsider Art article... Continue reading

Took my cat to the vet today. I now have to give her subcutaneous fluid therapy everyday. In the last post, I referred to it as an IV. It looks like an IV but doesn't go into her vein. Just learned the proper term today. Anyway, she is doing okay considering, but as the vet said it is only a matter of time. Continue reading

Last week I was going through Illustration Friday and wanted to comment on some blogs. None of the Blogger blogs, which seems to be the majority, would let me do so. I tried different IDs to log in with and still no go. This week, the same thing. I thought maybe it was Firefox so tried IE and experienced the same problem. Very frustrating. Anyone have any suggestions? Continue reading

My cat often lays and stares into space. I wonder what she is looking at, if anything. I wonder what she is thinking, if anything. She is 18 years old and her kidneys are failing. I give her IV treatments twice a week. I wonder what she thinks when I stick the needle in. I wonder if she knows she is dying. Continue reading

"People with emotional disorders are not some defective subset of the human race nor do they differentiate disease and health. Human creativity is complex and ultimately, it is appreciated for its merit, innovation, and imagination." From an interesting article "Art and Mental Illness: Stop the Insanity!" by Cathy Malchiodi. I obsess over weird thoughts about mundane situations that spiral out of control and lead to death or dismemberment. Even movies can make me nervous. I watched "Rango" the other night and an owl says that 65% of deaths happen in the household. I always knew the home was loaded with possible accidents, but I don't need an animated owl telling me this, especially when I'm trying to enjoy myself. I don't go out much because death is waiting around every corner (actually, the underlying cause of my agoraphobia is socialphobia), and staying inside is fraught with danger. I'm like... I too was searching for a sequel to the game when came across this blog. So really sad to hear there isn't one. I'm almost finished and was so hoping to play another. Keeping my fingers crossed! A few days ago, a friend pick-up a copy for me from Target because he thought it sounded like something I'd like. I do! I've been obsessively playing ever since. Do find the navigation awkward but love all the ghosts and scaring mortals. All and all, it is a great game and wish there were more of this type on the market. I thank you for creating it.
