I'm swamped with writing commitments right now (and in the middle of a cross-country move), but I plan to write a review of the book for Blogcritics.org sometime soon. Maybe even before the Christmas shopping season is over.

I really need to do a better job of keeping up with your blog. Thanks for the picture! It made my day. I totally had a crush on Denise Crosby. Still do, I guess, but not quite the same. I forget how young you looked back then. Wow. I didn't really notice it at the time 'cause I'm just a few years younger than you.

Nifty, but I'm broke until Wednesday. In any case, I need to be buying new winter clothes because unlike Los Angeles, it's getting cold and windy up here in Washington.

And here I was thinking you'd given up on podcasting. (Also, it's your fault I'm now hooked on Slice of SciFi, Dragonpage Cover-to-Cover, Michael and Evo's Winging It, The Kick-Ass Mystic Ninjas, and Geek Fu Action Grip. Who knew that there were so many great sci-fi/geek podcasts out there? And there are probably more, but I just don't have time to listen to them all. Except for yours. I have time for that.)

Speaking of peeps, have you seen the site that details the research habits of peeps? Remarkably similar to college freshmen.

Thanks - this came at the right time. I've been pledging money to be given to a cancer research/support organization via a project happening in the Where's George? community (Operation Doomer °), but I haven't decided where to send it. So, I made a donation to your fundraising thingy.

I'm not a podcaster, but I have recorded several concerts under noisy conditions. I use a Sharp minidisc recorder (MT-877) and Core Sound binaural mics. If you can find one, the MT-877 costs about $150-250. The CS mics can run from $75-200. If you go for a minidisc recorder, make sure to get one with mic-in. The NetMD models from Sony initially didn't have that option, which is why I went with Sharp. I don't know if that's still true. I transfer in real time using a stereo mini-to-mini cord through an external soundcard 'cause my laptop's soundcard isn't so great. I record the incoming sound in Audacity, and then manipulate it from there. I do some test recording to get the output/input levels set appropriately first.

If you're into librarian or writer blogs, Karen G. Schneider's Free Range Librarian always makes me feel smarter. Blog of a Bookslut has a bit of snark, but in a good way.

How much of a CMS do you really need? The core of your site is this blog. If it's easier for you to write this blog in Typepad, then use that. The other stuff can be coded by hand and linked to/from here. Would they let you use the wilwheaton.net domain instead of willwheaton.typepad.com? As for your question about MT plugins... I use BookQueueToo to create a list of what I've read (and when I've read it), as well as displaying the most recently read book(s) on the main index of my site. I think Blacklist and SpamLookup come standard with MT now. Those are essential. I've also moved to complete moderation of comments via TypeKey. All trackbacks are manually moderated. I don't deal with enclosures, and most of what I post is text, so a WYSIWYG editor isn't a concern for me. MT 3.2 has a much cleaner user interface than previous versions, and there's less tinkering when installing plugins. I like having the "what do I have installed" interface that also allows me to disable a non-functional plugin with a few clicks.

I finally got a chance to listen to this, and at about 18 minutes into the podcast, a thought occurred to me: Have you ever compared notes with Denise Crosby about your decisions to leave ST:TNG? Just wondering.
