I'm super bummed about breaking my ankle yesterday. In addition to it hurting like hell, I'm going to miss out on introducing my kids to the guy who bought the fibonnacci scarf!
Have fun! And I'm betting you're sold out of paper dolls in an hour or less. :)
Here are my plans for PAX
Tomorrow, I'm heading up to Seattle for PAX Prime. This year, I hope to play a shitton of games, both of the Tabletop variety and the Video variety. To accomplish this noble goal, I'm not going to do a ton of signing like I've done in years past. If you're planning to attend, and want to do thin...
Just as I had given up...
I had finally accepted that it wasn't going to ever happen and decided I would just cancel my now six month old tile order and find another tile I could live with. So I called Lowe's. My tile is in transit from Dallas and should be here within a week. Continue reading

I Miss My Old Blog (or, Another Reason I Hate Facebook)
I was searching for an old knitting pattern on my blog and ended up with a search result page from 2007. I miss blogging like that. I was more interesting. Or at least more entertaining. I blame Facebook for my shift away from the blog. Well, that and the demise... Continue reading

letting the negative energy go
Dear lady who had a problem with my kindergarten son being in the women's bathroom: Trust me, I would send him to the men's room if I had someone to take him. Perhaps you think I could send him on his own, but maybe you noticed that he is still... Continue reading

I wish I'd written this myself
I really wish I'd written this myself. Not because I want you to think I'm so smart and witty but because I am fighting the urge to re-post the entire thing to be sure you don't just skip the click-through and actually read it. The Six Enemies of Greatness READ... Continue reading

An open love letter
Dear Dairy, We have had a good thing going for a long time. I love you and show my affection regularly. Not just the short lived, child-like crush on ice cream, but a long standing passion for cheeses, even the strong smelly ones. And the rewarding comfort of a glass... Continue reading

Several steps forward, one step back [home improvement]
Thanks to the help of a friend who is a professional homebuilder, my fireplace is now ready for tile to be installed IF the stupid backordered tile ever actually comes in. I ordered it the first week of January. In February Lowes called to say it was backordered at the vendor, but would overn...

this is (part of) why I'm odd
Random nerdy thoughts I've recently contemplated: What are the physical dimensions of one gallon of water and based on the measurements of my tub could I calculate how many gallons of water it holds? Also, has anyone tested if hamsters are the optimal rodent wheel energy generators? What about gerbils?... Continue reading

While I don't think I'd have been yanked into the pit (I'm relatively small but my kitchen trash bags aren't THAT heavy) I definitely could have gotten an arm/shoulder injury if the ring held fast to both bag and finger. So yes, a definite luck hat trick. :)
Holy crapanoli I'm lucky
**HUGE GASP** That is the sound I made when I threw a bag of trash into the pit at the dump about 15 minutes ago. Such a huge gasp, one of the guys working there asked if I was ok. See, as the bag flew out of my hand, the red drawstring tie caught one of my rings, the ring Allyson gave me for Chr...

You made me cry
If you read yesterday's blogpost and took action (whether that was donating or just spreading the word to others), THANK YOU. Not just for your contributions to the village rebuilding, but for demonstrating the good in people, and generously giving something to strangers with no expectation of ever getting anything... Responsible disclosure: it isn't just for computer security
Thanks to a coworker today I read about the application of disclosure policy to public health. Fascinating. And a little scary. I don't need to know how to mutate a virus to make it transmissable to mammals in order to protect myself. Biosecurity experts fear mutated forms of the virus... Continue reading

Doing My Homework, Because Learning the Hard Way is Dumb*
Tonight was a more productive night than usual after the kids went to bed. I worked out on the heavy bag for 40 minutes, found my original iPhone and 80GB Zune while looking for something else (which I haven't found yet, but I'm not giving up, it has to be... Continue reading

New ways to violate Facebook privacy
So you've done the right thing with your Facebook profile, locking down your privacy settings to just your friends and maybe using some lists to manage who has visibility to what, and you aren't using the leaky Friends Of Friends setting. Then you get a new friend request from someone... Continue reading
