Elise you remind me of my mom! We have 50 people for Thanksgiving and my mom takes the entire week off to prepare. We have color coded and time coded spreadsheets and none of us are allowed to veer from our duties before guests arrive. All in all, it ends up being an amazing night, just as I'm sure yours will!

It's been A LONG time since I last posted. A lot has happened, and I will get into all that soon. But for now, I want to introduce everyone to an opportunity to help my organization (RAINN - Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) win a $250,000 grant from the Pepsi Refresh Contest. Each month Pepsi gives out 1.3 million dollars to the organizations with the most votes. RAINN is competing with over 1,000 other worthy organizations and causes and we really need your help to win. Our idea is to create an Online Hotline for Spanish-speaking victims of sexual... Continue reading

At JFK with Saul and doing a quick internet check-in. We'll be back in DC tonight and I'm hoping to be running at 6am (especially since I'll be on Greece time). The trip was great and there are many pictures coming soon. I've actually enjoyed not having a working phone or internet access for 9 days. It was a period of true relaxation. Back to real life...tomorrow...after some major sleep! Continue reading

I was able to grab a quick second on the internet! We are on the island of Mykonos and we are waiting to be picked up and taken to the port to catch a boat back to Athens. It is pouring outside so we tabled our beach plans. We are reading instead and enjoying some Starbucks Via coffee that Saul found in his bag. Our trip has been amazing. So much to share, so many pictures to post. I've decided there is way too much to see and I will most definitely be returning to Greece. Continue reading

This weekend I have tons planned!! First of all I bought an armband for my iPod Touch! I've been wanting a new iPod nano so I can calibrate my Nike+, but Saul convinced me to try running with the Touch first. SO, I bought the case and can't wait to use it tomorrow! Secondly, I am off from work tomorrow (yay flex days!) and after my run I have big plans to buy new running shoes from Fleet Feet in Adams Morgan. I love the Nike shoes because of the sensor, but they are killing my feet. Probably because I... Continue reading

Sunday I ran the Capitol Hill Classic 10K. Time was 77:30 -- mile pace was 12:28. I was running 10:30 miles until I started to feel a burning blister coming through and had to stop for a second. After the first stop it was hard to go faster, but I finished the race and am so glad I participated. Now on the schedule is San Francisco half marathon training. Saul also ran and received his PR of an 8:30 mile! Congrats babe! Below are some pictures taken by my friend Maureen who was at the finish line waiting to start... Continue reading

Dear Blog-Land, I need your help! Saul is debating whether or not he should run the San Francisco 1/2 marathon with me at the end of July. I say he can TOTALLY do it! He's a much better runner than I am. He's in great shape. He LOVES to run. And he LOVES San Francisco. I am almost positive he is signing up right this second, but I'd love to show him some encouragement. If you are a runner, or not a runner, if you know Saul, or don't know him, or if you've always wanted to run but needed... Continue reading

All week long I have been exhausted. Sunday night I got home from Denver at 1am and didn't get to sleep until 2am. Ever since I feel as though I have been recovering and trying to catch up on sleep! As a result I only went to the gym on Wednesday, and after 15 min of running on the treadmill I got off. Thursday I had made plans with a friend to have dinner and I had personal training later that evening. But I canceled both because my body continually said "no." I learned this week that I my body... This has been a great week for food. First of all, I lost 3.2 pounds this week for a total of 5.6! So excited, even my BMI has gone down a point. Thank goodness... Last week I spent a lot of time thinking about what I was eating and making sure I was in fact hungry and not stuffing my face with food for other more obvious (or even less-obvious) reasons. My exercise routine stayed relatively the same, so I am focusing mainly on what food changes I made. Here is what I came up with: 1. Fruit, Fruit &... Continue reading

Last Saturday I ran a 5K in Denver. My time was 37 min, translating into a 11:54 mile. The race was a lot of fun, but the altitude was difficult for the first mile. I forgot about running at a higher altitude and how hard it would be. But by the first mile I had adjusted and was on my merry way. I did have some problems with my feet however. Between mile 1 and 2 my left foot went numb. Kind of felt like it was asleep. Part of me wanted to stop and walk the rest. Mentally my... Continue reading

For some reason I have more things in my head to post about than I can find the time to actually post. Here is a list of things to come in the next few days (probably Monday-ish): Weight Watchers: I am starting over. Thinking about food differently -- as in I am actually thinking about the food before I eat it. The thought process goes something like "Am I really hungry?" "Do I really want to eat that for 2 points?" "Will water suffice?" "Okay, I must eat now!" Running: I am back to the running & it feels great.... Continue reading

I had 2 awesome workouts over the weekend and am completely motivated to continue them this week. Also excited about today's weight watchers weigh-in. Hopefully the working out and eating well shows up on the scale! MONDAY: SUPER SPIN TUESDAY: 45 - 60 MIN CARDIO CIRCUIT WEDNESDAY: RUN 3 MILES & PERSONAL TRAINING THURSDAY: DAY OFF FRIDAY: FLY TO DENVER SATURDAY: 5K RACE SUNDAY: DAY OFF Continue reading

It's been awhile since I've posted, mainly because I haven't been running. But I received this picture in the mail and knew I wanted to post it, especially since it was from my first 10 mile run. With me is my boyfriend Saul, both of us wearing our new running attire and both completely pumped to start the race. I wish I had a picture from after the race, I looked happy but somewhat wobbly. There are more posts to come, so stay tuned! I promise to be back in blog-action next week! Happy Friday! Continue reading

Saw a Vascular Surgeon this morning about the vascular malformation/hemangioma on the bottom of my left foot. He, like another doctor I saw in Chicago, said he had never seen one on the bottom of a foot before. And he hasn't operated on one like this. Seriously? You are a VASCULAR surgeon and you tell me these things? I mean, come on! Can I please find a doctor that knows what to do here? When they asked me for my pain level with I said 8 or 9, and of course they were shocked. I am having an MRI to... Continue reading

Today's exercise plan includes circuit-cardio training. This time, instead of 3 machines at 20 min each, I will do 4 machines at 15 min each. Depending on availability the order will be: rower, arc-trainer, elliptical and stair-mill. I have not been running since last Wednesday, and will not run again until after I see the doctor about my foot this Wednesday. In the meantime, my plan is circuit training today and Tuesday, personal training on Wednesday, some kind of cardio in the morning on Thursday and a mix of cardio and weights on Friday. Happy Monday! Enjoy your workouts! Continue reading

I took yesterday off from the gym because I had worked out Sunday - Thursday. But now that it's Saturday and I'm just relaxing, I don't feel like going to the gym. My fear is that if I give myself a second day off it will be harder to go back tomorrow and even the next day. I'm torn. Sometimes you need a break and sometimes I think it's better to keep up the routine. Thoughts? Happy Saturday! Continue reading

My friend Jen and I had our first session with our new personal trainer last night, and it was awesome! We worked on the upper body with lots of push-ups and dumb bells. We tossed the medicine ball back and forth while standing on the Bosu as well as a few other amazing workouts for two. The reason I have decided to work out with a personal trainer is so I can be fit and healthy for the marathon in October. Between running 3 times a week, cross training 2 times a week and weights 2 times a week I... Continue reading

***I had planned to post this on Monday April 12, but I have been tired and too busy to get it together. But nonetheless here is my post-race-post! Sunday April 11, 2010 I completed my first 10 mile race. Not only did I complete the race, but for the first time I ran 10 miles and only walked for about a total of ten minutes. During training the farthest I had gone was 5.7 miles, and some thought it was unwise for me to go for 10. But I proved them wrong. I read in Runner's World that it is... Continue reading

** Is there any question what this post is about today?? I woke up this morning so excited to register and nervous that it would be sold out. When I went to the site there was a splash page saying registration would not begin until 12pm EST. Being the anxious individual that I am, I refreshed the page at 11:30am and low and behold...it was ready! I must have been so excited filling out the form that I entered my phone number and credit card incorrectly. Luckily the page didn't let me click "pay now" until everything was in order....
