I pretty regularly use the conversion service to create nice compact PDFs. Lulu does it better than any software I have. I also will put the book up for the occasional tree killing but there's no DRM in the print edition PDFs. If you're looking for epub, you could try Epub2GO! which converts the nice PDF into an epub.
