After ruminating once again on the dark joy that is everything Rust Cohle said in "True Detective" (Season One, which is the only season in my opinion), I stumbled across Thomas Ligotti, who wrote "The Conspiracy Against the Human Race." One quote from Ligotti rang especially pure and high painful... Continue reading

Why all the pithy sayings about Spring Cleaning? New Year's is where the purging is at in my world. I seem to spend a measure of each new year cleaning: cleaning projects, clearing decks, making space, be it email inboxes or piled up papers or follows on Twitter, and this... Continue reading

I've begun a long-overdue experiment at work: the standing desk. So far, my back thanks me. My feet, not so much. But a cushiony pad should help, and standing in bursts will likely help take my ample load off my aching arches. Continue reading

F. Scott Fitzgerald, whom I am rereading via his "Great Gatsby," said "Forgotten is forgiven." What an interesting posit. I like FSF, and I want to agree with him, but at first blush I don't know that I do. I will have to think on it more. Forgiveness, as a... Continue reading

Why, thank you. :) I'm a big fan of playing to your skill set, no doubt. And that's an interesting image, the coin and occupying the same space "without contradiction." Why do you suppose they don't get along better than they do? You might already know, given your Superman predilection. You touch exactly on what appeals so empathetically for me about Batman, historically. I identify with his darkness, with his "preparing for every outcome," all the time, every time, even when such preparation weighs one down. He has to try much harder than our fair-hearted alien, Kal-El. Ultimately I suppose I can love them both. For their own reasons. In their own times.
