I know, I haven't posted in a while and I think in part it was because I fear my own mortality. I'm closing shop soon, maybe temporary, maybe not, not sure what the future has in store. What I do know is that getting ready to move and running a shop at the same time (and minding a 3 year old all the while) is just going to be too much right now! I am hoping to close my shop within a week. We are almost to the point of putting the for sale sign in the front yard, so... Continue reading

This is such a cute and creative idea for decorating the top of a round table. Tablecloths are often too fussy or too easy for little ones to pull off (along with anything that might be on the table). A clean, contemporary alternative, this project from Ty Pennington at Home posted on the Woman's Day website is an easy way to add a splash of color and style to your table. Glass top suggestion ~ Pier 1 used to have round glass tops in a variety of standard table sizes. They were a much more affordable option than having a... Continue reading

When I began making my great room pillows, I had intended just to make a few with printed fabric but no other embellishment, nothing fancy, just plain pillow covers. I quickly decided that would be boring and the ideas starting flying through my head like a ball in a racketball court. Here's one idea I came up with. I love this Alexander Henry fabric and I didn't want to add anything to distract or take away from at least one pillow cover made from it. So instead, I decided to use a little more of the fabric to add some... Continue reading

Okay, so if you've figured it out by now, this past week I've decided to become alliterative with my blog posts. I'm not sure if the titles will stick, but they're cutesy enough for now! Since I gave you a peek at some pillows I've been working on yesterday, I decided to go in search of a simple envelope pillow cover tutorial. Envelope pillow covers are really the simplest, most-cost effective and storage-effective pillows you can make. Easy to change when the mood strikes, pillow covers fold neatly in a linen closet rather than wasting space with full size pillows.... Continue reading

In effort to make a few changes in my great room, that is, trying to make it feel a little more youthful, creative, and contemporary, I recently began remaking all of my pillows. I would say that I wanted to add a handmade touch, but actually all of my previous pillows were made by me. There just wasn't much creativity involved. The fabrics were heavy and predictable french/italian country style, with yellow and gold damasks, stripes, and brocades as the dominant theme. I wanted something more quirky, maybe even a bit whimsical. I decided upon a few Alexander Henry fabrics... Continue reading

Even though the Sweet Divinity fabric collection by The Quilted Fish for Riley Blake was released last fall, I am still as enchanted with it today as the day it arrived. Enchanted. That's the perfect word. Or maybe divine but since that's in the title, it's a given. The photos online are pretty, but you really do not get an appreciation of the detail and beauty of this fabric until you see it in person. The intricate details and so sweet colors are just waiting to be made into a something for the little girl in your life! Just take... Continue reading

I'm longing to go shopping and redecorate something. Anything. I miss the days B.C. (before Conner) that even if I wasn't going to buy anything, I could spend all afternoon going from store to store, gathering ideas and putting rooms together in my mind. But seeing as those days seem long past...well...I guess until he goes to kindergarten in a couple years...I decided to window shop my favorite home decor store. Potterybarn. Does that make me a sell out? I remember an episode of Friends when Phoebe was giving Rachel a hard time because she felt buying any mass produced... Continue reading

I really love seeing the very creative patterns that fabric designers create when their new fabric lines are released. Amy Butler's website has 2 quilt patterns available designed to use her Soul Blossoms collection. The Bloom quilt is my favorite, but I'd certainly enjoy a little Sunshine as well! Whether you use them to sew those exact quilts or just use them as inspiration, they certainly sweet eye candy! Continue reading

Have you seen that Poppy Patterns has a free downloadable PDF pattern for the Poppy Bedding that we've drooled over for months? This so very pretty bedding set pattern features instructions for making a king or queen duvet and euro shams. Some of the Poppy collection prints work well with the new Magnolia Lane collection. I particularly like the olive paired with it. It would be so pretty to mix and match the prints from both collections for this pretty bedding! Now I'm longing to redecorate my bedroom....or maybe my guest bedroom! Continue reading

Hi Dana! I've thought about this question, especially since I had the bolts in front of my face and felt I may have picked wrong, lol! If I decided I didn't want any print, just a solid, I'd have gone with the painter's canvas in sage. But I'd have probably thought that was a little plain against the brown. So either the textured plaid or the painted dash would have been great choices. I really like how the textured plaid repeats all the colors in the magnolia branch, so that would likely be what I choose. I'm so glad you like these fabrics, I hope I've helped!
Toggle Commented Feb 2, 2011 on My Magnolia Lane Bag at Fabric Flair

Magnolia Lane by Laura Gunn was on my shelves but a few hours before it began calling my name to use for a project. After much consideration, I decided to use it to make a sturdy tote bag. I've made basic tote bags without interfacing, but I wanted something with strength that could possibly stand on its own. I love the Magnolia Branches print the most, so that was an easy choice for the outside of the bag. The Painter's Canvas in brown seemed like a perfect compliment for the bottom and handles. I used the Scattered Buds for the... Continue reading

When I was a little girl, my grandmother always told me stories about the cherry blossoms in Washington, DC in the spring. It was a fond and beautiful memory for her that clearly took her back in time when she thought about them. I've never seen them in person, but when I unpacked the boxes from Studio e containing their Bloom collection in early December, I got an overwhelming "grandma feeling". The shop and the holiday was so busy that I didn't have time to post about it then, but because the collection warmed my heart, I wanted to take... Continue reading

Is there any smell as recognizable as a magnolia tree in full bloom? We have a sweet little magnolia tree planted outside our family room window and sadly last year a frost in the spring did some serious damage. We were without our beautiful blooms and scintillating scents last summer. As advised, we cut the tree way back to allow room for new growth this year. We have high hopes that our little tree just might make it! It's a good thing they'll be plenty of beautiful magnolias inside this year, as marked by the arrival of Laura Gunn's latest... You may be wondering how on earth I selected the giveaway winner. First, I assigned numbers to everyone who left comments. Then I made a list of everyone who earned extra entries by buying fabric yardage during the sale (and letting me know they were entering!) I did that in the order in which I received the orders. So person number 30 (just picked that number as a for instance) might also be assigned the numbers 74, 75, and 76. Then I used a random number generator (first one listed when I googled) to pick a number between 1 and... Continue reading

Okay, so apparently I took December off from blogging. It wasn't intentional, just sorta happened. But I have a good excuse (if there is a such thing)! I had a 95% handmade Christmas for the first time EVER. It was like a crash-course boot-camp for my sewing skills. And ya know what? I didn't take a single photo! Not one! So here's the projects with links to the fantastic sites from which I got the patterns. First, from Amy Butler's In Stitches, I made 2 kimono style bath robes. A little tricky, had a difficult time at first with the... Continue reading

I know so many blog writers take pause to reflect on the reasons they are thankful, so..... here's another for you! Beginning with the obvious, I'm thankful for the support I get from my readers and customers. I have laughed louder, cried harder, learned more from, and found support from the most amazing people that I've met here on my 20" computer screen. Sometimes I forget that we're not actually in the same room! I'm thankful that even without leaving my small corner of the world, part of me has traveled to more parts of the world than I could...
