Laughing with cats soothes the soul.
Interests: I enjoy reading young adult and children's novels. It helps to keep me young at heart. Walking in the morning enables me to clear my head and prepare for whatever adventures the day might bring (too often with the help of my cats and kids). Writing and reading poetry allows me to think outside of the box for a little while each day.

Have you ever wondered... where you fall on the Crazy Cat Lady scale if you can tell the difference between your cats just by the sound they make before throwing up a hairball? Without turning around on the couch, I know instantly that Ben is preparing to decorate the floor behind me with a rodent-sized hairball just by the blurping sound he always makes. He's not too dramatic - just belch and release. Gracie, on the other hand, hams it up. Prior to providing me with a hairy surprise, Gracie begins making a raspy "haaaack.....haaaaack.......haaaaack" sound like she is getting... Continue reading

It appears that three exits were not sufficient enough to allow for an escape from the strange cube. A fourth square shaped one was required. Unfortunately, the construction of it proved to be exhausting allowing for the capture of the escapee. Until next time, remember... Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something. - Kurt Vonnegut Continue reading

If you give Benjamin Bunny a treat, he will want a sip of water. So you'll fix him a fresh bowl of cool water. When he’s finished drinking the water, he will want to dunk one of his toys in the bowl. When its completely submerged, he will want to scoop it out. There will be a splash. Then another. And another. Eventually, the only thing left in the bowl will be the toy. You’ll have to help him get it out and put it somewhere to dry. When Benjamin realizes his front paws are soaked, he will want to... Continue reading

Recently, the repairs to the inside of my house finally began to take place. I was extremely excited until I found out that I - along with Gracie, Benjamin Bunny, and my husband - would be confined to the upstairs master bedroom and its adjoining bath for at least a week while areas of drywall were ripped out and replaced downstairs. As cozy as that may sound, my two feline friends were not thrilled about their involuntary confinement. In an effort to make them more comfortable, I converted the upstairs master bedroom into a feline funhouse of sorts. I arranged... Continue reading

Have you ever noticed... that some days your feline friends want nothing to do with you until you sit down to work at your computer? No matter what toys you bring out of the closet or how many hair bands you shoot across the room, they aren't interested in your company. But the moment you open up your laptop, they appear out of thin air demanding your immediate attention. I sometimes wonder if my laptop is equipped with some type of cat alert signal that my human ears are not able to hear. What else would explain Benjamin and Gracie's... Continue reading

Have you ever wondered... how your feline friends always seem to know when a vet visit is approaching? How do they know to suddenly deviate from their daily routine and vanish just before it is time to coax them into a carrier? I don't even say the word "vet" let alone "veterinarian" out loud, and my feline friends still know when it is time to leave for an appointment. On a typical morning, Gracie hops onto the couch and curls into a ball on her special gray blanket while my husband drinks his coffee. She stays there even after he... Continue reading

It has been one year since Benjamin Bunny discovered the leak above the French doors that open onto the porch outside my bedroom. Since that time, our house has been the temporary residence of numerous reconstruction crews consisting of engineers, masons, framers, and painters. Both porches - upstairs and downstairs - had to be removed from the house. Siding was ripped off. Large areas of rot repaired. Inside walls torn apart, and baseboards removed. But last week, it looked like life was finally going to return to some semblance of normalcy. I was informed that the leak had been... Continue reading

Have you ever wondered... why cats feel the need to test the limits of gravity? Why do our feline friends constantly position their bodies on the edge of counters, couches, and dressers every time they sit on something that is several feet above the ground? Watching Gracie lay across the dresser in my bedroom today, leaning as far over the edge as she could, prompted me to develop several theories on the subject. First, I think it heightens their sense of superiority over other creatures with height issues. Not only can our feline friends climb to places beyond our reach,... Continue reading

The time has finally come for the reconstruction crew to begin repairing the damage done to the inside of my house during the rebuilding of my back porches. This has necessitated the removal of all valuable objects located in the family room, including the many items occupying the floor to ceiling shelves. The following pictures show how Benjamin Bunny reacted to this unexpected temporary change in the interior design of my house. Until next time, remember... Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So... Continue reading

Reason #6: You will have a use for all of your empty boxes. No more worrying about breaking a wrist, much less fingernail, trying to tear them apart to put in the recycling bin. Reason #7: All feline friends are self-grooming members of your family. You will never have to worry about nagging them to wash their fur. Although, some are a little more obsessive about their appearance than others. Gracie would never let a small thing like the invasion of a frog into her home deter her from making sure the fur on her back legs was spotless. On... Continue reading

Have you ever wondered... why your cat takes so many catnaps throughout the day? Did you ever consider the possibility that you might be the cause? Maybe taking care of you is exhausting, and naps are the only way your cat can cope with the situation. It makes sense when you consider all that your cat has to do on a daily basis. Just waking you up in the morning takes multiple head butts, loud mews, paw pats, and pacing. Then, there is the constant weaving in between your legs to keep you moving in the direction of the kitchen.... Continue reading

Reason #1: You never need to fear your feline friend's reaction to a bad hair day. He or she will always look at you with the exact same expression. Reason #2: You will never have to worry about your alarm clock malfunctioning once you have a feline friend. He or she will always make sure that you are up several hours before the sun in order to prepare his or her breakfast. Reason #3: Feline friends are great at storing their toys out of site, eliminating the need for toy boxes taking up space around the house. However, you may... Continue reading

Since June is Adopt-a-cat Month, I decided to publish the following post again in the hope that it will inspire someone else to take a chance and be rescued by adopting their own set of feline friends. June is typically associated with the end of a school year, the beginning of summer vacation, and the return of long sunny days. Many people tend to gravitate towards family outings such as picnics, ballgames, and fishing. The world seems bright and exciting after the cool days of spring. But for some, June is just another month to spend contemplating on how to... Continue reading

Have you ever wondered... if your cats get tired of looking at the same view out the window day after day? If you think about it, it would be like watching the same segment of a reality tv show over and over and over again. Blech!!! This thought popped into my weary mind yesterday as I watched Benjamin Bunny hop excitedly from window to window as he watched my wonderful house framer and his crew at work. They were starting the tedious process of attaching the frame of my newly designed porch (one that won't collapse or pull away from... Continue reading
